It's weird. Went to buy it before Christmas and it was sold out everywhere. I assumed it had sold very well. Not in the UK now, but I'm assuming supply is good now.

Edit: Ah, beaten

Beaten but well explained. The distributors were dry, but copies started to come back into the channel this weekend. I expect it to do well over the next few weeks, mainly due to the low volume of sales this time of year and the built up demand.

Hadn't seen outside of the top 10.

No Brain Training, no MK:DS, No Pokemon, 27 for NSMB...

Think it's time for the 3DS for sure!

No 1st Party Nintendo games released in 2010 made the top 20 - all the ones up there are either 3rd party or 2009 releases.

no MK:DS, .

Surprised about that, it's still 4th in the DS chart this week. Edit OK I'm not so surprised, that list shows you the power of multi-format games.

I hadn't realised Super Mario 64 DS is still selling, that's at number 9. Not bad for a launch title!

I love when Nintendo refers to the others by competitor 1 and 2 lol

To those that don't speak spanish, the source translated is:
- Source: GfK weekly report. Sales figures: Nintendo Iberica, extrapolating Gfk data by 0,68.

So I kinda expect to see other 'competidores' throwing a different spin on them :p

EDIT: I think you should do a new thread for this dabra, its a great amount of data with numbers for a sizable region in a whole year. It kinda gets hidden here.

it was made by a spanish developer so i guess that helped a bit too.
Those software numbers are totals for the year i guess. So GT5 is around 250k, not bad at all.

Extrapolation from weekly reports doesn't give a clear picture.
Maybe not for software and only if they get a limited top 100 for instance -- if they have weekly sales for every title, then it's fine.

But, we can't know for sure. =\

It looks like it - Layton is a beast in europe.

That's an understatement. If Layton 1 can sell over 200k copies in its third year, it has to be close to or over half a million units in Germany alone. That's half of what it did in Japan. That's crazy.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I'm glad Art Academy is selling so well. It's a great piece of software.

Layton looks like a Eurogame and plays like a Eurogame. Wouldn't be shocked if the first one hit a million in the UK at some point. We don't get the awards as regular public info now though do we? Ironic as ChartTrack-DSK are the source for the German numbers.

Layton is terrible. One of the few cases where the commercial success annoys me. Nice to see Mario & Luigi >100k in its second year, well deserved.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Why exactly? Those are some of the best games I always get to play around Christmas.

Layton legs a leapin'.

Surely Nintendo/Level 5 can't skip the fourth game in their cash-cow series in favour of bringing through the 3DS game in launch year?

Yeah, I think Layton 5 wasn't even mentioned during any event last week. I think it's save to say that Nintendo/Level 5 don't intent to get the fifth game out ASAP in western markets.

I only played Layton 1. It had no original puzzles, only classic puzzles I solved when I was a kid. So the game's mechanic "touch everything on screen to discover puzzles you already know solutions of" was boooooring. And the main two characters are extremely annoying.

Pleasantly surprised by this news. I honestly thought it was going to bomb, it doesn't have anything like the level of hype or excitement that the first game generated, and it's launched in the middle of a pretty busy PS3 release schedule. Certainly a few people I know are holding off for now with the expectation that it will be £10 in a few weeks.

Well SCEE actually decided to advertise it this time, so that might have helped.

Not to obstruct the celebration, but it may be worthwhile to consider that the original game was released on 5 November, whereas the previous individual-format number one title essentially had its sales quartered in the previous two weeks.
