PAL Charts - Week 2, 2011

Well SCEE actually decided to advertise it this time, so that might have helped.
Related to that, it actually sold a tiny bit less this time than the other game:

"Developed by UK studio Media Molecule, ‘LittleBigPlanet 2’ is the first in the franchise to achieve top spot in the All Formats Chart. The original PS3 game which launched to much acclaim back in week 45 2008 could only manage No4. Launch week sales of the first and second LittleBigPlanet games are almost identical with the latest game only 95 sales short of the original.

It's also the first release for a month and launching during a very low sales period.

Not sure about it being the first release for a month as DCUO, ME2, and Dead Space 2 this week are providing plenty of alternatives for PS3 owners. We obviously don't know the numbers but in relative terms it's a good performance.

stupid marketing - why waste money sponsoring films on five? :lol

DKC got a big bump, which proves that indeed there was a shortage.

Also, probably Goldeney's last week in the chart. Oh well, it had a good run. :D

It might not just be the marketing. I'm a fan of the first game but have no desire for the second, knowing that the floaty mechanics are still there. That could be a widespread feeling. Also, what does LBP2 do exactly to expand the previously established userbase? It's an expansion of the first game, without the huge novelty factor, currently sporting a lower metacritic, I wouldn't be surprised if it sold less.

Slow start for Little Big Planet, unless the original sold very well at #4 back in 2008.

My step-son wants it, so it should be £20 in a month or so (like the first).

They must've done something right. I've had several completely casual gamers asking me about the game.

Also, good to see ME2 in the top 10, and GT5 still hanging around too.

Wait two weeks and I'm sure it'll be free with boxes of Frosties.

Indeed. The first LBP plummeted in price like crazy. I'm still conflicted, on the one hand I want to play it now, on the other hand I'm probably better off waiting for the price to come down.
