Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘L.A. Noire’ (-56%) takes a third consecutive week at No1 and will make the Developer/Publisher combo (plus Team Bondi in Australia) very proud to be No1 again as the videogame industry arrives for E3 this week. Disney’s ‘Lego Pirates of the Caribbean’ (-9%) climbs back up one place to No2, passing Codemasters’ big new entry from last week, ‘Dirt 3’ (-49%) down one place to No3. 505 Games’ ‘Zumba Fitness’ (+14%) is turning out to have a lot of stamina, No4 for a third week in a row and never out of the Top 4 since the launch of the Wii version back in week 13 this year. Bethesda’s FPS ‘Brink’ from UK developer Splash Damage (+8%) takes a 2nd week at No5 and has dropped no lower in the 4 weeks on chart. Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ remains at No6 (+8%) with continued activity on the Wii hardware bundles – the Wii has been the top-selling piece of hardware for the past 2 weeks thanks to the Black Wii+Sports Resort and the launch 3 weeks ago of the new Wii White Mario Kart Pack. The biggest new entry this week is EA’s ‘The Sims 3: Generations’ for PC, the fourth expansion pack for this product. The others, including year/week of release, were ‘World Adventures’ (2009 week 47), ‘Ambitions’ (2010 week 22) and ‘Late Night’ (2010 week 43). The only other new entry this week is Bethesda’s RPG action adventure ‘Hunted: The Demon’s Forge’ at No14 from independent developer Inxile based in the USA.

Sims 3 on PC is a beast as always.

I am impressed with the showing of Shogun 2: Total War. Wonder what it have sold?

The Rockstar name sells. L. A. Noire dominating.

Very good for LA Noire.

I remember having conversations on here that people would be taking back their copies of LA Noire in their droves when they found they couldn't be crazy guys like in GTA seems like those people were wrong.

You seen the last week charts?L.A Noire was number 1 on every single one.

I think LA Noire is successful partly for the same reasons that Heavy Rain was a surprise success. There's a huge unmet demand for narrative driven "adult" detective/mystery games.

£13-£20 games and £157 3DS could be doing some good after all!
It must be, I'm on the fence after the pricing re-alignment and I have no use for a 3DS whatsoever. £150 is impulse buy territory for a new handheld.

I hope things don't pick up too quickly though, I'd like to see this lower tier of pricing stick permanently.

Look like PSN negative effect is slowly fading. although i do believe few must have abandoned PS3 for good.

Hah! Well spotted, the Black Ops jump is pretty damn significant.

Wow. I don't think even the GameCube was doing that badly 2 months after launch. If they don't get Mario Kart out soon they will be in real trouble in terms of mindshare.

Sounded like you were talking hardware sales. And yes it does show that the thing has no games. Huh I sense the return of an old meme...

3DS LTD in France: 140,000.

Compared to the UK, it's low. It sold 113,000 on the opening weekend in the UK. However across Europe (all of it) - only 303,000 sold that weekend... it was at 3.61 worldwide at the end of April, probably about 4m+ now .... edit: scratch that, got my math wrong. If the userbase is 4m that's like 3.5% of all 3DS HW. Worse if the userbase is actually 5m+.

Pilotwings charting so low at a discount really does make me wonder how well Zelda can do next week. But Zelda does have far better appeal and PW is a bit niche, the best of a bad bunch... should be interesting!

When do the charting dates run from? Is it Mon-Fri? ie. will the next chart only show Friday sales?

28% of 4m is 1.12m.

Edit: Ah, beaten by the stealth. :P

Something seems off. Maybe 1m absolute maximum in Europe, 1m in Japan from Media-Create.. 2m in the US? *checks through NPDs*

Found these first week sales numbers for the 3DS:

- 128,895 UK
- 90,262 France
- 71,872 Germany
- 45,588 Spain+Portugal
- 41,505 Italy
- 20,017 Scandinavia
- 41,067 Rest of Europe

edit: and games (first week, whole EU)

- Pilotwings Resort - 48,916
- Nintendogs + Cats - 46,666
- Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition - 43,448
- Rayman 3D - 39,088
- Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars - 34,435
- PES 2011 3D - 31,428
- Super Monkey Ball 3D - 26,559
- Ridge Racer 3D - 22,405

So not even a 1:1 tie ratio.

There's been about 11 weeks since the 3DS launched,
140,000 - 90,262 = 49738

Fuzzy logic (it would be hard to say whether its been on an upward or downward trend for the last few weeks,) but on average thats about 4.5k sold a week in France since then. It does seem pretty slow.. but then, we kind of knew that.

I wonder if other countries are enjoying the discounts that the UK has enjoyed?
£160 for a black model is awesome considering retailers tried to sell it at £200+

I'm pretty sure that was 3.61 millions shipped. As I'm sure we all know, there are many, many units just floating around retail channels all over the world.

Chart Track figures run from Sun to Sat (inclusive). So with OoT 3DS we'll get 2 days sales on Mon 20th or Tues 21st (when the figures are released).

The ones you posted.

Always google when you find such detailed sales numbers (especially for Europe) before posting on GAF.

They're from m-create and giantbomb according to the site I've found them on. Didn't bother to double check.

Forget all this negative talk about the 3DS, and all focus on how Inazuma Eleven is alive and well not only in Italy, but Spain as well! :D

UK Top 40: Duke Nukem crowned first
Potty-mouthed shooter Duke Nukem Forever has landed first place in the UK charts.

It knocked fellow Take-Two title L.A. Noire down to second, after a three week reign on top.

InFamous 2, another big release last week, entered in fourth - despite the game being PS3 only.

New shooty Martian adventure Red Faction also took off, managing a respectable eighth place.

With three new entries, regular chart faces such as Lego Pirates shuffled down to fifth, while DiRT 3 dug in to sixth and Black Ops slipped to ninth. Portal 2 made tenth.

Duke Nukem is actually selling? Smh, I thought bad taste at that level was left behind long ago.

Edit: Glad to see Infamous show well, despite my distaste for the original. Sony's first party differentiation strategy still going strong.

I know the dudebro disease is still at the heart of the industry, but DN still takes it to a bad taste extreme that isn't even remotely culturally relevant any more. Doesn't help that the game is bad either.

After Homefront and this it's pretty clear that every single decently marketed shooter will sell well. No matter if it's a giant piece of turd.
