the newest issue of c't (german computer mag) says the ps3 already overtook the xbox360 in germany. can anyone confirm this (dont have the mag).

january 2008:

1. Wii ca. 700.000
2. PS3 ca. 415.000
3. XBOX360 ca. 405.000

I'm going to try and confirm this. Wii and PS3 sales sound relatively high (~311k since the end of Oct. and 243k respectively), but in the realm of the possibility, while X360 sounds insanely low (~77k).

The magazin says that there is no actual hardware data, so they took VG*Chartz data..

But there are some Media Control software numbers in the c't:

German market 2007:
5,5 million PS2 Games (2006: 47% ; 2007: 35% of software sales)
5,1 million DS Games (more than doubled compared to 2006)
1,1 million Wii Games (7,5% of software sales in its first year)
0,9 million 360 Games (6%)
0,8 million ps3 Games (4,9%)

Console software:
sales 2006: 429 million Euro
sales 2007: 554 million Euro (29,1% increase with a total of 15,7 million console games sold)

PC software:
sales 2007: 239 million Euro (3,6% decrease with a total of 11,9 million pc games sold)

well you are obviosuly pointing to this week UK results trying to play down Spanish results, and in UK indeed you can not purchase Wii without an game right now. Thats why so many Wii games are up on the charts. Its retailer bundling since Wiis are in hot demand.
Since Psychotext (who seems to actually be from the UK) has taken care of the main issue for me, I can only explain that no, I was pointing out UK, France and Spain LTD sales to show that the two former are much bigger markets than the latter.

Didnt this discussion start with someone downplaying the PS3 sales? On page 4 when the Spain top 10 was posted someone said "go Spain!" or something. Then someone asked if Spain counted for 3-5% (or something like that) for whole of Europe. The way i understood this question was that since Spain has a low percentage of Europe's sales it wasnt anything to "brag" about or anything special to report. This might not be the intention behind the question so please correct me if i'm wrong, but this is how i understood it atleast. After this the disuccion about how big Spain was started.

I thought Frillen's comment was pretty silly myself, but that doesn't mean spwolf should get away with making incorrect statements. ;)

"A sale is a sale".

exactly what I said too. I just find it silly to downplay whenever PS3 something sells well, which same people are doing over and over and over.

----

You might be able to "find without looking too hard" barebones Wii, but most retailers sold them in bunldes to sell more software during the holidays and high demand for Wii.

Obviously, only last week, Wii software sales didnt look that hot in UK, eh? :-).

What I found out from this thread that I didn't know before is that between the UK and France you have well over half of all European console sales.

There's no point arguing with you... despite having first hand experience of the situation over here (I bought three of them at xmas). There never is.

At least they mention that there are no actual numbers and they are explaining how these hardware numbers come about. ^^
They basically said they are made up?

Wasn't the PS3 leading in Spain. The Wii must have had a really great Christmas there.

It was? I don't remember exact numbers, but I think it only started to sell more than Wii after the price drop, and they were almost even after that. Perhaps the price drop effect dropped a bit, the Wii sold more at Christmas and got the lead again.

PD: actually, there are some Christmas sales not included here, because the day to give gifts is january 5 in Spain.

Because of shortages. This week there was plenty of supply and consequently Nintendomination. (The Wii games that charted are also the kind that people want regardless of bundles.)

Those really are massive numbers! Especially DS.

I think DS was ~2.7 million by the end of 2006, so the system sold over 2 million units in 2007! Which is backed up by Gamestation's Martyn Gibbs comments of Nintendo selling 2 million in 2007, and is huge for the UK. By my calculations, this puts PSP under 500K for the year, or PSP and GBA under 500K for the year, the wording isn't clear in the MCV article.

And Wii @ 2 million! Is this already Nintendo's most successful home system in the UK?

Wow, France really hates Microsoft for some reason.

Yeah its weird, i ( living in switzerland ) have a 360, as well as a ps3/wii for new consoles. Most of my friends have a 360 too. But i would say that we are all "gamers" so we want all the gaming experience we can get.

But for alot of people, Playstation is still a strong brand, and Nintendo has a videogame history, read; most of people had a NES, superNES back in the day.

When i talk about the xbox360 to people, they are like : "oh, thats the MS console right ? its shitty, it breaks everytime. I am gonna buy a PS3 instead"
