Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ stages a Herculean comeback, jumping back into the All Formats Top 40 at No1 with renewed stock handing Sega’s Wii title its third All Formats gold medal.

It is the third different title to reach No1 so far this year, selling more than twice as much as the next title on an individual format (Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training). Activision’s multi-format ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ has to settle for a drop of one place to No2 (-19%). Half of the All Formats Top 10 is made up of games that are exclusive to Nintendo formats (DS/Wii), boosted by renewed Wii and in particular DS Lite hardware stock. The last time 5 DS/Wii exclusive games featured in the All Formats Top 10 was in week 38 2007. 85% of sales from the Top 10 Individual Format Chart (Units) are from titles only released on Nintendo formats. The brain training games both benefit, each up 4 places with the original at No4 and the sequel at No5, while ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ breaks into the All Formats Top 10 for only the third time since its launch 10 weeks ago, up from No15 to No8. Every multi-format giant in the All Formats Top 10 loses sales except ‘The Simpsons Game’ which is up one place to No3 (+9%). Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ slips from No3 to No6, EA’s ‘FIFA 08’ drops from No2 to No7 and Activisions’s ‘Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’ falls from No5 to No9. Sega’s light gun (Wii Zapper) game ‘Ghost Squad’ is a new entry at No20, just ahead of the official Wii Zapper bundled game ‘Link’s Crossbow Training’ which re-enters the Top 40 at No22. The only other game released this week to debut in the All Formats Top 40 is Capcom’s ‘Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure’ at No25.

Zack and Wiki was only officially released on Friday, right? #17 seems pretty reasonable.

Edit: Woah, Mario and Sonic giving Sonic and the Secret Rings a boost?

Edit 2: Woah!! Ghost Squad!

Mario and Sonic shoots back to #1!

Looks like a massive week for Wii software. 15/40 - wow.

Edit: Look at all those third party titles too - I can count 7 Wii third party titles there.

Wow at Z&W and Ghost Squad. Will be picking up both in a couple of weeks when I visit UK for a couple of days.

Going by the number of Wii games, they must have been getting quite a bit of stock in.

Most games only have 2 days in the charts. That's pretty shameful Europe. :(

Ghost Squad > Zack & Wiki, there's no excuse!

Wii hardware and software back in stock apparently.

Pretty good debut for Ghost Squad and Zack and Wiki

Oh and I think Mario and Sonic Wii might get 4M worldwide by itself. It's a fricking monster.

It is the third different title to reach No1 so far this year, selling more than twice as much as the next title on an individual format (Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training).

4 out of the top 10 each for DS and WII. Wow.

Taking a look at the past couple of weeks 15/40 for the Wii seems high. Is this week unusual in that regard or is it often that high?

25 (31) [360] Mass Effect (Microsoft)

Go Team Shepard!

Its probably only there because Gamestation are flogging it for £20, but either way I'm glad more people are picking it up.

edit: Oh yeah, Holy crap at the Nintendomination. A lot of people who got a Wii/DS for Christmas are hitting the shops in a big way.

From anecdotal reports, Wii hardware and software were pretty scarce starting the new year. Obviously, stock was replenished.

Wow, exceptional week for Nintendo!

Several stores I went in over the weekend had displays saying no DS's in stock, so demand is still incredibly high.

Last year in the UK was excellent for Nintendo and I expect this year to equal or even surpass it. I'm sure this must have been posted somewhere, but for those that didn't know, Nintendo DS sold the most sw in the console/handheld field, surpassing even PS2(!), only bettered by PC, and Nintendo moved up to the number 2 publisher of the year at 12.3% of the market, more than doubling their 2006 5.6% share, which put them 4th:
http://www.mcvuk.com/interviews/176/UK-GAMES-MARKET-2007-The-definitive-report
UK SOFTWARE PUBLISHERS’ MARKET SHARE IN UNITS 2007:
1. Electronic Arts: 15.8 per cent
2. Nintendo: 12.3 per cent
3. Ubisoft: 8.6 per cent
4. THQ: 6.7 per cent
5. Activision: 6.2 per cent

Surprising turnout for Wii software indeed and not a bad debut for Z&W. Of course I'd like it much higher, but with the game actually being advertised over in Europe, it might find some great success. Worldwide I'd certainly hope the game does well enough.

If there's a sequel, everyone should be thankful to the europeans. :p

I'm confused... is that sales for 2007 or LTD sales? (can't be LTD, surely PS2, DS and GBA are too low)

[Edit - Yeah, it pretty much has to be 2007 only. Makes sense now]
