PAL Charts - Week 45

LBP took a bigger fall than it should :| Fallout 3 and Fable 2 took a big falls aswell.

I hope LBP can climb back a little running up to Xmas. Get those ads out Sony.

edit - also, was BK out in week 46? It didn't hit top 40? o_0

lol at COD5 outselling COD4 by 2x....

It's not that suprising. CoD4 did well out of the gate but only became a mega-hit because it had decent legs. The next CoD after it was always going to benefit more because of that, particularly as very few people are likely aware of the IW vs. Treyarch thing. I'd wager though that it slips faster and further than CoD4 did over time.

How did this happen? Not that I don't approve, but HOW? Did they run a massive ad campaign that I missed?

There've been loads of ads for it. I scarcely watch TV and I've seen the ad for it numerous times. Prior to the ads I also didn't know that the professor layton series was brain training in disguise. (At least the marketing seems to be knowingly aimed at brain trainers who might want to migrate to a story-driven series of puzzles and such).

Very big over in the UK very good TV adverts as well playing up the puzzling element.
Nintendo just do the most simple adverts and they always work.

Showing people playing games and an explanation of said game it's not that hard.

Yeah, no sign of BK, I'm starting to feel a bit sad for Rare now - here's hoping their next projects fare a little better.

I don't think it was a huge drop for LBP, about what I expected for its 2nd week in the charts - it's done decently. I think we'll see a similar situation over in the US next NPD.

I don't think we'll see it climb again.

A real shame about B&K MS should be ashamed of themselves releasing it a week after Gears 2 was very silly.

It must surely be time for another PD game.

Seeing what Rare have learned since the first game in terms of 360 tech the next game should be phenomenal.

They need a big hit and some advertising support.

Yeah, BK surely would have been far better off avoiding the end of year madness altogether. I reckon it would've garnered a lot more attention if it were released in the summer.

Surely there must be a shakeup coming at Rare. AFAIK they're a pretty large company, but how can they sustain themselves for so long without any decent sellers?

Not surprised by Nuts & Bolts and Mirror's Edge, platformers sent to die.

The combined launch week sales of the XB360, PS3 and PC versions of the latest instalment have outsold those for ‘Call of Duty 4’ by more than 2 to 1.

I said this last year about COD4's UK launch relative to the original Gears of War (and was still shocked when it actually happened), but if these numbers hold up across the pond, we could see WaW at 3.5-4 million in November NPD. :lol

Probably. Their saving grace is that they're peerless when it comes to knowing the 360 hardware inside out.

Yea, definitely not going to see that happen.

As far as Rare goes who know. I mean PDZ was a million or close to it and VP is certainly over a million. I mean it charted this week, heh. Perhaps BK will have some legs. They have had a pretty good hand in the NXE as well. But yea they could use a Fable II break out hit this gen.

Ad watch: Just saw the 2nd PSP advert I've seen today. Tag line is 'Your whole world in your hands', the music is a sort of indie-whiteboy-funk version of, you guessed it He's Got the Whole World in his Hands. Has a Loco Roco bit in the montage.

Massive campaign, even my mum asked me about that new puzzle game for the DS.

(she likes brain training etc)

Somebody was doing Xbox 360 console/game bundles this week (Woolies I think?) and one of the games was Kung Fu Panda, so if anyone was wondering why that's up again, now you know.
The same goes for Lego Indiana Jones, unless there is another bundle or if we are thinking about the same Xbox 360 console + 2 games bundle :) Atleast i saw a commercial in the mail today that there was a Xbox 360 bundle that included Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones :)

other bundle news: if you see motorstorm pacific rift climbing the german charts, it will most likely be the mediamarkt bundle (PS3 + Motorstorm + Hancock for €399)... although I don't think this will do too much as we've had better deals recently.

Dabanton said:
I suspect they'll wedge the engine onto a FPS.

They did a third person shooter with it, its called Gears of War.

I love Mirror's Edge, I'm not surprised to see it chart so low. A first person platform game isn't going to appeal to everyone and a new IP too. It needed an ad campaign like Assassin's Creed really.

Yeah the Assassins Creed ad's are a masterclass in getting people onboard and hyped. The actual game was sub par. But the ad's were brilliant.

And for a new I.P that most dangerous of things, it was a success.

They did, its called Unreal Tournament 3.

I liked this one better. I meant the whole control and ability to jump around rather realistically.

By building the entire Avatar infrastructure?

Well I was trying to think what used the Unreal Engine, I put UT3 down but its shit. :lol

Plus I felt it was harsh response.

I think you'll probably see LBP jump a few places in the UK charts next week. A few retailers discounted it sub ÂŁ30 and one is selling for ~ÂŁ25 (I forget the exact amount).

havent most of the games they released this gen been million sellers?

2 million 360
1 million PS3
500k PC

isn't outside of the realm of possibility.

GTA4 did 2.8 mil in a few days, Halo 3 did 3.3 million in about 10 days, WaW is launching to a bigger userbase on the back of a sequel that sold better in the long run than either H3 or GTA4 and has more than 3 weeks of reportable sales, including Black Friday, for its launch month.

I gotcha, for some reason I was thinking on 360 itself. But yea could be possible. I've been watching the 360 mygamercard figures and it is probably not quite 1 million yet based on limited date. Not sure if it is performing as well week 1 here as the UK however.

Note to the wise, Layton actually outsold Gears 2 on one of the days that week.

My musings for that game has been fantastic, we are sold out on the game (we had cases full of them as well), definetely surprising but looking at the campaign and stuff, Nintendo did themselves proud.

Wii Music should increase for it's 2nd week of sales in line with the other Wii___ titles in the UK - if not then it's in trouble.

Layton is selling out in casual stores here so will do well up to Xmas I think. Does mean that it'll be Xmas 2010 before we get the final game though!!

Rayman Rabbids 3 sold terribly and is about 35 in the Wii only chart - I guess full price is no longer acceptable for mini game packs even if they do look much cooler than the typical fare and suport the Wii board.

Wonder if COD Wii is actually any good - anyone tried it?

It's great that mario kart is sticking to the other less critically aclaimed Wii titles. If only there was a good way to add Mario Galaxy to people's lists - bundled Nunchuck maybe?

How much has GTA IV sold worldwide since release?

What amazes me is that MS have yet to start showing Gears TV ads, Gears 1 had a tonne of them?!! Are they purposely trying to aim at casuals partly by avoiding Hardcore games that might scare them off?

I never though it would go past gear 2 like that

980k users on the in-game leaderboards for multiplayer.

Combined users world wide no doubt it is at 1 million already. I couldn't say where November NPD will come in at, but if I had to guess 1.5 million or so for the version. Well, I don't know at this rate maybe not quite that high.

where is the logic behind that? Other Wii ____ titles were #1 on the charts so they had tight supply... Wii Music isnt anywhere close to it, anywhere in the world :lol

So, Rare didn't make BK a platformer because "platformers don't sell very well these days". So instead they make a game that doesn't sell. At all.

They're really pushing Gears 2 at the cinema. Seems Fallout 3 is the game getting all the TV ads though. And every DS and Wii game imaginable.

MS need to be stronger with them and tell them what to make imo,

Maybe they dont want to upset Bethesda what with Fallout coming out inbetween Fable and Gears?

They should have held it back until next year.

I can't believe that they would release the game this time of year in a schedule already crowded by other games.

Even December would have been a better bet the Gears 2 hype would have died down a bit and people would have been wanting to try something a little different.

Word of mouth picks up. Its happen for a lot of titles that didnt even chart.
