PAL Charts - Week 49, 2007

£17.99 in Gamestation

So popular they were told by Nintendo to stop the promotion half way through the week as they had sold way over the expected amount! :lol

As soon as I saw that price advertised I knew it was going to shoot up the charts. The only thing that was ever going to hold it back was how many Gamestation could stock.

yep.. haha.. i was surprised when i went into work and Mario Party 8 got replaced by PGR4 i think

:P

Yesterday some lady was complaining on the phone about why Mario Party wasn't in the half-price deal anymore and why Gamestation was still advertising the deal on TV.

Technically if they came into the store and asked about the deal when buying the game you could price down it for them... :D

I'm pretty sure most games release on thursdays.

99.9% on Fridays

only exception is special releases. And chart Counts only Friday And Sat sales - Sundays go to next weeks.

Yeah, I promoted the fact that Mass Effect was going to get a push like Gears did, but with Bioware going to EA, I'm assuming something has changed and the push really isn't there. Then again, I think the Assassin's Creed ads are the best for a single game this Christmas season. Halo 3 is Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 has also risen to the forefront with spectacular sales. Not a lot of money to go around for a lot of people.
I agree with you. All the same pieces were in place: a dramatic TV ad, the November positioning, the TV show tied to it - and then none of it got pushed hard. The show was mentioned in one PR that I can find and there's little push now that the game is out. I understand that Microsoft wanted to broaden their message this year (last year is was all about Gears) but Mass Effect feels a bit swept under the rug.

Heavenly Sword had advertising.

You must be joking, Uncharted has had tonnes of advertising chucked at it, even on Channel 4, that and Ratchet were given a major marketing push by SCEE, to no avail it seems.

SMG is now in short supply, so next week will see it fall, only to see it hit number 1 the week after as stocks pile in, Mario and Sonic being at Number 1 is frankly scary, and Mario Party will stay high up til Christmas, sadly.

Is the Wii in China yet. I bet Mario and Sonic would sell there just for nationalistic pride.

Friday, friday! Of course I meant friday, I even checked the calender.
That's the last time I read both this and the MC thread at the same time. :lol

Why the hell is Uncharted not selling anywhere?

And why the fuck is Assassin's Creed still selling better than SMG? WTF indeed.

I'm not going to even acknowledge Mario & Sonic other than accepting it's a brilliant move for Sega.

truth has to be said :)

It's the truth, and it's also almost never been the harbinger of an upswing in sales the next week. The same thing happened with Ratchet and the next week it charted even lower. See Also: Mass Effect.

Mario and Sonic being at Number 1 is frankly scary.

Why? Its widely cited as being the Wii's best minigame collection and it also feature's gaming's two most recogniseable mascot's. Good game + aimed at right demographic + reogniseable mascots + huge TV push was always going to be a recipe for success.

Felipeko couldn't post them. Sorry for the lame format. Deal with it.

if you dont care about formating it, then dont do the freaking thread. Let someone else with more time/patience to do it. We will need other countries added through next 7 days.

Only 2 days sales for Uncharted? I will wait for next week before calling bomba to anything.

AC PS3 ranked much much higher than Uncharted after only 2 days sales (I think it was 3rd? Definitely in the top5 anyway). Uncharted did bomb, next week will just show to what extent.
For the record as an HD gamer it doesn't make me happy at all.

I haven't seen a single Mass Effect commercial. PGR4 got a nice push on ESPN and the like, ME is MIA in that regard.

Homework for this week: Prepare a joke about Uncharted's position.

PS3 NFS seriously beat out the PS2 version?

blame sony. uncharted cost 45 pounds. no wonder its first party games are tanking whilst cheaper third party games are selling well. also take a look at online stores, a cheaper uncharted is selling well
this cant be quoted enough. its pretty stupid to price a new ip which hasnt got that much buzz outside of the internet at £45, whilst games like cod4 and assassins creed with tons of hype are much cheaper. ugh sony

To those that don't know... that's $90+ for a game.

How many times, It has been advertised like fuck, and as £40-£50 is the standard for 360/PS3 games how does that count as a factor, :/

AC is doing really well
After playing the first couple hours, I can see why. This game looks great and seems like it would be a crowd pleaser. However, I can see where the poor review scores are coming from as well. If every single assassination mission requires me to do the same tasks beforehand, it might get old quickly. Thank goodness for rentals.

So, SRP for most PS3/X360 games is equivalent to $100+. Comparing NA prices to Euro prices is pointless, NA gets it cheaper, same as always.

My homeland is so full of fail and Wii's right now! Fail and Wii's, Wii's and Fail! Oh and PS2's

read the fucking post. its not about advertising. 45 pounds is very expensive for a video game. most third party games cost £35 to £39. also if you take a look at most online retailers a cheaper uncharted is selling really well.
sony needs to take a serious look at their prices, i dont know if its the retailers forcing them to make those high prices or they're trying to be greedy, but its really not working.

Indeed in-store is £45, online is £32.

Unless there's a typo, it looks like it just did :P

Full charts will be available saturday, so we'll see what the hell happened to the PS2 version.

Who buys games on release date anyway. Uncharted and Singstar had a day...and we all know Sony starts advertising AFTER the game has released.

TW Title Format Label Publisher
2 1 [WII] MARIO & SONIC AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES SEGA SEGA

Not surprising really, the ads they have of it are quite ridiculously cg heavy with like 3 seconds of gameplay.

4 6 [360] ASSASSIN'S CREED XB360 UBISOFT UBISOFT
5 8 [WII] SUPER MARIO GALAXY NINTENDO NINTENDO
- 22 [WII] LINK'S CROSSBOW TRAINING NINTENDO NINTENDO
- 23 [PS3] UNCHARTED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE SONY COMPUTER ENT. SONY COMPUTER ENT.
13 34 [PS3] ASSASSIN'S CREED UBISOFT UBISOFT
16 38 [360] MASS EFFECT MICROSOFT MICROSOFT

All of these are interesting. Uncharted sells as well/bad as links crossbow training. Assassins creed on ps3 taking a huge drop (come on ps3 owners what are you buying!). Lastly it's nice to see mario still holding up well there, and pretty crappy showing for Mass effect thats one bid drop.

Out of curiosity, has there ever been a title that charted better in its second week than its first in the UK? (Not several weeks after, where bundles could come into play, but the second week, after this infamous 2 days.)

Good to see the French folks maintaining their good taste, except for NFS:Pro Street.

Wii Play is an accessory, so PES2008 should be taking 4th place.
