ChartTrack said:
The All Formats Christmas Chart is only two weeks away and Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ is still very much the gift of choice, holding on to No1 for a 4th consecutive week despite a 15% sales drop.

Last year’s Xmas No1 ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ was released a week earlier and only grabbed top spot in Christmas week itself, while this year the popular war game has the potential to hold on to No1 right up until Christmas. It has now sold over 1m units in the UK (it took ‘CoD 4: Modern Warfare’ 8 weeks to reach the same landmark). Nintendo emerges as this week’s strongest competitor as ‘Mario Kart Wii’ receives a power-up from widespread TV advertising, boosting it from No4 to No2 with sales rising by 15%. All four of Nintendo’s All Formats Top 10 games increase in sales with ‘Brain Training’ flexing its puzzle solving muscles, up from No5 to No4, the fluctuating ‘Wii Fit’ back on form with a 43% jump in sales, up from No12 to No8 and ‘Wii Play’ sales up 5% (down one place to No9).

EA are not out of the running as ‘FIFA 09’ is a non-mover at No3, ahead of fellow EA contender ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ which slips 3 places to No5 (sales down 21%). Lara Croft continues to shimmy her way up the All Formats Top 10: ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ climbing one place to No6, just in front of ‘Fallout 3’ at No7 which enjoys a 60% surge in sales, benefiting from a retailer price promotion. Activision Blizzard’s ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ is still rocking the Top 10 despite falling from No9 to No10, but Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2009’ and Sony’s ‘Resistance 2’ are both All Formats Top 10 casualties, falling to No’s 16 and 20 respectively. Another retailer promotion helps Microsoft’s ‘Fable II’ achieve an 81% increase in sales, rising from No35 to No19, while retailer promotion on ‘GTA IV’ coupled with the release of the PC version means Rockstar/Take 2’s record-breaker is back in the Top 40 at No22 (sales up 160%). There are two All Formats Top 40 new entries: ‘Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City’ on Wii at No26 and the latest ‘Prince of Persia’ on Xbox 360/PS3 at No30.

Call of Duty didn't chart on the Wii...bummer. Not that it deserved to, necessarily, but I want more FPS on the Wii, and it's too bad to see the self-fulfilling prophecy at work again.

Just realized this is its week 4...went back hoping to see it in week 1 at least...nope. :-(

Go Wii Music.

And look at all those DS games that released 3 years ago. Amazing. Nintendogs must have sold 25 million worldwide by now.

Should I be surprised that WaW beat Gears 2 in the U.K.?

Did WaW come out after Gears or something, or are COD games just that big in the U.K.?

Wow, Tomb Raider for the 360 has obviously had more staying power than the PS3 version. Didn't the PS3 version outsell it the first week. Weird

Lots of things were competing with the 360 version.

So where are the "Tomb Raider 360 version outsells the PS3 version" articles now random PS3 sites? You were so desperate to post the story about Tomb Raider PS3 outselling the 360 version first week, but what now?

Signal is clear, wii owners don't want ports of HD system multiplatforms for the most part.
Probably because most who would buy those games already have a ps3 or 360 and can't be bothered with an SD version with no unique qualities to set it apart on the wii.
Wii needs big budget high advertised 3rd party core titles.

Bit of a poor first week showing for Animal Crossing in my opinion - I thought it'd debut in the lower top 10... Yeah, yeah I know it'll rise next week, and float around the top 20 for quite a while, but I did think it'd enter slightly higher based upon the huge success of the DS version and a pretty big marketing campaign.

Wait till NPD. Besides Treyarch is asking Wii gamers how to make the next game better so...

Signal is clear...

Yeah, don't gimp the Wii version.

I don't think they're referring to anyone in particular. Just that some people got a little over excitied because TR PS3 charted higher than the 360 version. Reminds me of the GameCube days. Always have hope ;)

EDIT: Re. CoD WaW...I don't think the game would fare much better here even if the dev put some real effort behind it and made a stand out game. Obviously there are people who will buy the game, but the Wii audience for this game - here in the UK, at least - isn't made up of huge numbers.

He's a well known troll, don't feed it.

I thought SingStar ABBA would debut higher. Also surprised at the power of COD.

Personally i dont think there are too much of a news when a multiplatform game sells more on the Xbox 360 compared to the PS3 because so far it have happends maybe 90 - 95 percent of the time, and it seems that people are used to that the Xbox 360 version of a multiplatform game sells more compared to the PS3 version of a multiplatform game. The Xbox 360 installbase in the UK is something like 1 million bigger than the PS3 installbase if i am not mistaken.

When a multiplatform game sells more on the PS3 compared to the Xbox 360, then people seems to be more suprised by this, which i guess is because it doesnt happend that often, probably most due to that the bigger Xbox 360 installbase is bigger compared to the PS3 installbase.

Sure, you can point out that the Xbox 360 version of Tomber Raider Underworld sold more than the PS3 version in the 2nd week and people did say something like "it seemed that the Xbox 360 demo of Tomb Raider Underworld didnt work too much", so i think it is fine that you point this out. I also think people should wait to see how sales goes for atleast some weeks to see if there is a trend that is happening or not before if they want to say something "negative" about some sales, like in this case with Tomb Raider Underworld. I would say that there was a chance that the Xbox 360 version would outsell the PS3 version in the upcomming week(s), and that is what happend :)

Why do you keep mentioning these things about the PS3 by the way? "LBP will go down the next week" (you did say you could be wrong though, so i think that this comment about LBP is fair enough :)), "i love that Sony fanboys are ignoring the lower Playstation 3 Media Create numbers" when the Famitsu sales number reported higher sales for the Playstation 3 compared to what Media Create reported, and now this thing about the Tomb Raider Underworld? (i think this is fair to point out though). It is not mostly what you write, but it is the way that you write it. To me it seems that you are very negative against Sony and/or the PS3. Do you have anything against Sony or the PS3? Please correct me if i am wrong, but hat is the way i understand it atleast :\ Or are you talking about the Sony fanboys?

I think some kind of "hype control" and getting back to reality is important when the news sites Frillen mentioned don't look at the picture as a whole and only see those great, shocking headlines to get some clicks.

Most articles don't mention the huge competition the 360 version had and that this could result in the sales being not so much frontloaded.

I like it when somebody keeps track of the things happening and puts them into perspective even if they don't make a sensationalist headline at that time any more.

That might be, and what he says might be true, but it is actually the way that he writes it that i question. The way i understand it is that he writes some of these comments in a negative way, like he is taking a shot at the PS3 preformace.

I once remember that he asked something like "why are people comparing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles to Uncharted? Have the Sony fanboys hit a new low?". And then maybe 1-2 weeks later or something like that when the NPD numbers for USA came out, then he said something like "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles outsold Uncharted? (insert like 10x "lol" emoticons here)", which in my opinion could be understood that he was comparing these 2 games to eachother himself. I also think he was banned for this comment if i am not mistaken (or atleast he was banned around at that time when he said that comment). This happend about a year ago, so i am not trying to pull up old stuff here, but i just wanted to say that this isnt the first time he writes some comments about the PS3 sales preformance.

When he was unbanned i cant recall seeing too many PS3 comments from him, but now they seem to be more frequently compared to how they were before, atleast after my knowledge. To me it feels more like he is more trying to take a shot at the PS3 sales and at the "Sony fanboys" rather than trying to put things into perspective (it might be that he tries to do this as well, but the way i understand it, he doesnt do it in a "neutral" way (or what i shall say) atleast), but as i said, please correct me if i am wrong, i could be missunderstand what he means.

I am not saying anything negative about Frillen just to point that out, he is probably a nice guy, i just wonder what he means with some of these comments about the PS3 :)

GAME had an amazing deal of Fable 2 this week. Just £20! Hopefully that will have given it a lasting sales bump.

I dont think there are too much of a news when a multiplatform game sells more on the Xbox 360 compared to the PS3 because so far it have happends maybe 90 - 95 percent of the time, and it seems that people are used to that the Xbox 360 version of a multiplatform game sells more compared to the PS3 version of a multiplatform game.

Sure, you can point out that the Xbox 360 version of Tomber Raider Underworld sold more than the PS3 version in the 2nd week, but is it too much to write an article about it?

Why do you keep mentioning these things about the PS3 by the way? "LBP will go down the next week" (you did say you could be wrong though, so i think that this comment about LBP is fair enough :)), "i love that Sony fanboys are ignoring the lower Media Create numbers" and now this thing about the Tomb Raider Underworld? Do you have anything against Sony or the PS3? Please correct me if i am wrong, but hat is the way i understand it atleast :\
This person probaly has nothing against the PS3, If he is like me he gets tired of the Sony Loyalists or PS3 only owners making comments like, " Microsft going to bail out or Microsft doomed", when once in a blue moon a PS3 game does better then an Xbox 360 game. I own a PS3 and a 360, so i am not bais in this matter.

What?

Anyway, glad to see LBP went up in the charts :)

It's simple. Frillen is an xbox warrior, don't get baited just ignore it.

Fallout 3 was also available for about £25, including the special edition. I notice Far Cry 2 is back in the top 40 - Possibly in large part thanks to Play.com selling the steelbook edition for £17.99 for the first couple of days of last week.

Most articles don't mention the huge competition the 360 version had and that this could result in the sales being not so much frontloaded.

I think the major reason TR did so well on the PS3 the first week compared to the 360 is because it's the third TR game on the 360, while it's the first one on the PS3. I would be surprised if, by now, some TR fatigue hasn't crept into 360 owners. At least I know it has for me.

Is that always the case though? Like when some good PS3 sales news comes out, are there always someone that says something negative about Microsoft and/or the Xbox 360 at the same time?

Are the Microsoft Loyalists any different thant the Sony Loyalists by the way? For example, check the "lolz" comments about the PS3 sales in the latest USA NDP thread (i am not accusing everyone that said some "lolz" comments about the PS3 sales in the latest USA NPD thread to be some Microsoft Loyalists just to underline that, but i would assume that some of the people who said some of these "lolz" comments are Microsoft Loyalists atleast). I am not saying that any sides are better than the other or anything, and i havnt really followed "every" posts on NeoGAF and on other different gaming forums so i dont really know the whole situation with the Loyalists are in general, but are one side any better than the other?

Maybe you used the "bail out" and "doomed" comments as a general examples, but to comment specificly on these 2 comments, i would guess that they are probably in general (maybe with a few expections) more of an ironic thing though, atleast that is the way that i understand it. For example when Wii Music sold like 65k in the first month in USA if i am not mistaken, and then maybe someone says "Nintendo is doomed!" etc. People know that Nintendo isnt doomed even if Wii Music should sell 1 single copy.

:)

I didnt mean to take any bait or something, and i am not arguing against him, i just wanted to ask Frillen what he mean with these comments, if he has an "agenda" (or what i shall call it) behind some of these posts or if he is just pointing out things and then he mentions them :)

And just to underline, i have nothing against Frillen as a person, so this is nothing negative against him, he is probably a nice person. I just wanted to ask him what he ment with these comments :)

the latest ‘Prince of Persia’ on Xbox 360/PS3 at No30.

And not even in the top 40 for individual formats. What happened here? Sands of Time all over again? Will we get a darker, Warrior-Within-like sequel?

I blame;

-Zero advertising
-Launching too late in the Q4 period (most titles have ad campaigns/word of mouth propelling them onwards and upwards now)

And no demo.... (gimme a demo Ubi)
