PAL Charts - Week 9, 2014

Xbox on the other hand.... Blitzing it

Lucky for Microsoft the money is in the software I guess

1 more EA timed-exclusive game = blitzing it?

There's always a correlation between increase in software sales and hardware sales. By all account, XB1's increase in software sales is natural, given that they just had a price-drop, and they've launched a high-profile game exclusive to Xbox. (PvZ)

Next week will also see Xbox hitting the charts, because bundle and Titanfall release. For all accounts, PS4 is basically in cruise-control for the next 2 weeks while MS is releasing their H-bomb.

This isn't Sony making wrong choices, this is MS making smart choices by securing exclusivity of high-profile games ( PvZ and Titanfall ) in the launch period where there's not a lot of competition. The only 'wrong' choice Sony has made here was not ensuring healthy supply of consoles.

I'm not from UK, will a postcode make magic and put stock on big UK retailers?

Nope just open more options than a few stores for you

Argos and game both have regular stock

Game just don't list the 350 console as stock, and there site doesn't reflect in store stock

But you not living in the UK I don't expect you to know this

Price drop and pvz just happened this weekend!!

If the richer guy goes for the more expensive console I can understand the higher software purchases

Didn't save Wii U in first year.

Won't save Xbone without very strong exlusive library.

The xbox one can never be compared to the WiiU on any level.

Its still going to be the console to have this year especially for the shootbang crowd.

The question is whether it will catch up in sales to the PS4 or will it have to settle for Second place.

The WiiU wasn't even in the race when it had the market to itself.

You are trying to hard.
Does somebody say "impossible to find" or something like this?

Sorry went in robot mode while on the phone

Everyone who went for ps4

Very little decent titles to buy for it

Xbox on the other hand.... Blitzing it

Would expect for a 2;1 sell out like GAF has beern reporting playstation would have killed the charts in software sales

Lucky for Microsoft the money is in the software I guess

No problem. I'm loving your post history.

Shootbang crowd will have to choose

Xbox will have : titanfall and Halo 2 anniversary (maybe ?)
PS4 will have better versions of Destiny, Cod, exclusive Order and possibly Uncharted 4 (if it's 2014 title)

Seems more PS4 stock is needed in the UK. SW sales are hurting due to not being available I would imagine

Combined with XB1's price cut and bundle, XB SW sales are noticeably up.

BIU has released their annual market report for 2013.

http://www.biu-online.de/de/fakten/marktzahlen.html

Data is partly based on GFK, but also includes digital sales (they do a market study with 25.000 consumers every year).
I think it's the first year get data on games hardware. Should be the official GFK number. Software sales are GFK numbers + their estimates.

revenue (in billion €):
Total 2,41
hardware 0,590
software 1,82

Revenue with game sales:
PC -15%
consoles +5%
mobile -2%
phone/tablet +4%

There is a lot more information on the site.

Week 9 is up
http://www.gfkhitlist.com/game.aspx

Looks like the PS4 version of Thief did well.

Thief PS4 #2 in Finland. Fins just love playing PLAYSTATION NETWORK CARD 20 EUR way too much lol

revenue (in billion €):
Revenue with game sales:
PC -15%
consoles +5%
mobile -2%
phone/tablet +4%

So if they do the survey to determine digital sales, wouldn't that include things like steam, gog, Origin [PC digital]. If so isn't it surprising to see PC gaming revenue down in Germany?

Digital sales are included. It shouIdn't be down because of that. I don't know how their survey works, but AFAIK they just don't ask what people bought digitally, the survey has a lot of more questions. I don't know their methods. They probably use factors and weights. But all big publishers are members of BIU and probably share some data. BIU has access to GFK numbers - so in theory they should be able to provide good estimates. But how good their methods and estimates are, remains unknown. For instance: I don't know if they do their survey once a year, or do it constantly and compile all data. If they'd only ask in december, nobody would remember what he bought in january on steam/origin et. al.

PC revenue is down 15%, pc unit sales only 5%. I guess it has to do with releases. In 2012 Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3 dominated the retails charts. 2013 had no big PC titles. And PC Digital titles have probably a lower average price.

So if they do the survey to determine digital sales, wouldn't that include things like steam, gog, Origin [PC digital]. If so isn't it surprising to see PC gaming revenue down in Germany?

I don't think I have bought full ÂŁ39.99 yet from Steam so far. Maybe it is quite common.

The industry this morning is totally respecting the authoritah of UbisoftÂ’s South Park: The Stick of Truth after it claimed the charts top spot.

The Obsidian-developed title is the first RPG to debut at No.1 in the UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 since 2013Â’s Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

Xbox 360 claimed 53 per cent of the gameÂ’s overall sales, leaving PS3 with 41 per cent and PC six per cent. Aside from Minecraft, itÂ’s also the only title in the Top Ten without a release on next-gen consoles.

Last weekÂ’s No.1 Thief has to settle for second place followed by Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (3rd), The LEGO Movie Videogame (4th) and FIFA 14 (5th).

Namco BandaiÂ’s Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures manages 21st in its first week.

More infos + All Formats top 40

‘South Park: The Stick of Truth’ hands Ubisoft their first All Formats No1 of 2014, stealing top spot from Square’s ‘Thief’ (-48%), which has to settle for No2. 53% of South Park sales were on Xbox 360, 41% on PS3 and 6% on PC. It’s the first RPG to debut at No1 since ‘Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch’ back in W5 2013. Along with ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ it is the only Top 10 title this week not to have been released on a current-gen format (PS4/Xbox One). All Top 10 titles drop sales this week, but sales of ‘Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare’ only slip by 1%, pushing it from No4 to No3 in its second week of release. Lego is still well represented in the All Formats Top 40 with 5 titles, headed by ‘the Lego Movie Videogame’ (-31%) down 2 places to No4 and ‘Lego Marvel Super Heroes’ (-24%), also down 2 places to No9. ‘FIFA 14’ (-21%) drops 2 places to No5, but hasn’t ever been outside the Top 5 since it was released 24 weeks ago. ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (-23%) is not so lucky, falling outside the Top 5 for the first time, down from No5 to No6. ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (-3%) is up one place to No7, ahead of ‘Battlefield 4’ (-29%) at No8. ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ (-16%) hasn’t ever fallen outside the Top 10 and manages to hang on this week despite a drop from No9 to No10. The only other new release to make the All Formats Top 40 is Bandai Namco’s ‘Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures’ which debuts at No21.
