Paradox announces Europa Universalis 5

As i assume DLCs add more complexity to the game i was planning to add them gradually to my game. But when i don't happen to like the game i will of course not buy any DLC.

Ya, the DLC's add more complexity. Although, those "free" updates add problems, you solve those problems by clicking a button that the DLC adds. EU4 was a great game, but fuck PDX.

I'd fully recommend all of the DLC's. Of course, I have over 3k hours in the game at this point. Although, a sale would be nice, obviously. I wouldn't pay over 300 USD for it.
Oh, no doubt. EU IV with all the DLCs is an amazing game (have over 1000 hours myself).

But if someone doesn't want to get all at the start (pricing is stupid, IMO), I think a few major ones are a good buy. Paradox does have some base packs that make sense.

And agree on buying on sale, especially with BF around the corner.

One thing to consider then is that you can play on older versions through Steam as newer patches will make things harder otherwise without DLC.

In EUiV properties you can set to older beta version which reflects different patch levels based on major DLC releases so to speak.

They did add the first 2 DLC's to the base game. I think conquest of paradise is also included in the starter kit well.

I'm learning the game in vanilla state. We'll see if i buy DLCs at all.
Not all DLCs are necessary but some are essential like Art of War but I recall they've baked them in now a days in the base game - but I might be misremembering - Do you got forts with Zone of Control? If you got that you're kinda set. And it doesn't take hundreds of hours to get into. You can become competent after a dozen hours, I do recommend holding out though cause it's a game with infinite playtime to be honest.

Yeah, I think Starter Edition and then locking on a patch level that doesn't include other major DLCs would be fine.

This should be like $20 on sale or from legitimate key reseller sites.

I don't even know yet what Forts with Zone of Control are :messenger_grinning_sweat:. Like i said i just started learning the game.

Yeah, all the Grand Strategy fans seem to like it, but I still think it's safer to wait a few weeks. That's despite EU IV being my most played game of like all times besides maybe WoW.
I completely understand. But I'm also a huge map sucker so it's very hard for me to resist when the EU5 looks so gorgeous. Even if the game will crash every hour I still think that I'm going to enjoy it.

Does a fort blockade movement on itself and adjacent provinces? If they do, that's all you need - it changed the base game function of occupation to become x100 better when they introduced that, previously you had to siege each province and they didn't block movement.

I absolutely despise Paradox approach of "well, we will launch a game and then make 20 DLCs, otherwise we cannot eat".

On one hand it's annoying. On the other hand EU IV lasted 10 years because of DLC releases. Overall while I am not a fan of how the DLC worked vs the free patches, the game would have been long dead and a lot smaller without that.

Devs do not work for free.

There's bad and good in that. Though with that said EUV seems to be like the most feature complete game they've released in a while.
