Parasite Eve 2 Was Better Than the Original

In honor of PE2 on the PSN, I'm presenting this great thread. I look forward to hearing from the yahoos who prefer the turn-based combat, boring level design, and long load times of PE.

^that's me when I think about the original PE.

The first one is better.
In fact, 2 isn't even a good game. That boss in the pic is the only good thing about it.

I liked them both very much and when I knew 3rd birthday was coming out I let out one of those happiness farts, but then realized it was all for nothing since it was for the PSP!!!

I agree...for one scene.

And it wasn't the shower bit (but that did get my attention). The whole 'hotel in the middle of nowhere' with something huge rumbling towards it just hit something in me. It was like so many dreams/nightmares I had that I even got a sense of deja-vu from it, like it was happening to me.

It was one of the most immersive experiences I have ever got from a game.

The rest of the game? Pretty forgettable..but that part has always stayed with me.

I think gameplay-wise the second game is much better, but the first had better atmosphere. The only parts I can remember about 2 are the hotel, the mine, and the military base thingy though.

Way to troll OP! The sequel was trash and has absolutely nothing on the original. Think about it, visuals, music, story and gameplay are all better.

That's just fact son.

If PE2 was better than PE1 for the shower scene. Then T3B takes the cake.

my copy

didn't play the first one ( never released in europe) but I was a huge fan :)
there's a huge ammount of weapon in this game  and the story was cool

I like them both in their own way but,

Parasite Eve 2 > Parasite Eve 1 in the same way that Dino Crisis 2 > Dino Crisis 1.

Off topic, but did you pick your username based on one of the main characters in the PSX game Kartia?

Aint that like the whole game :D. Theres the LA part in the beginning tho.

And PE2>1 just because it didn't have any savepoint deathtraps like first one.

maybe, I don't know xD

I think that PE2 is more closer to resident evil than PE1 which more oriented rpg

First game was pretty awesome and had unique game play. Only problem was that it was a bit on the short side.

I remember some parts being pretty hard too as a kid, but nowadays I would likely do much better.

Never played 2, but I watched a friend play it and didn't like
the cutscene with all of those troops swooping down. Kinda ruined the horror aspect.

PE2 was terrible. Hand you stuck in that stupid desert for 90% of the game. PE1 had so many great and varied locations all around NYC, it truly felt immense.

It's been a long time but I remember the first game have better atmosphere, which IMO is crucial in a (sof of) horror game.

Oh hell no.

PE1 was leagues better than PE2, it had it's own genre, story and locations were all better. It actually had horror elements!

And the music, HAHA who remembers Parasite Eve 2 music, no one that's who! The music in PE1 was much much better and don't lie to yourself and say PE2 had better music, it's rude to lie.

This cutscene alone shits on your precious shower scene

And now I'm going to speak out my ass and say the people who liked 2 over 1 is the reason we ended up with 3rd Birthday, I hope you're happy OP!

Came for laughing bearded guy comic, leaving disappointed.

I couldn't get past the the 2nd or 3rd area in PE2 whereas I finished PE or 4 times. I just had a harder time getting into it. I plan on picking up PE2 regardless and give it another go.

They are so different that it is hard to even compare them. I enjoyed both. PE2 was ridiculously short. I think my best time was around 4.5-5.5 hours or some crazy time like that.

Yeah, and I think all the people who prefer the original PE started out as FF7 fanboys.

I was neither a Final Fantasy VII nor a Resident Evil fanboy mind you. In fact, I found FFVII quite droll at that time.

Is it a good idea to play through the first before the second, in regards to the story? Asking as the second is out on the european PSN (I think), while the first was never released here in the first place, and I can't be bothered getting a copy from eBay or whatever.

okay, but you are a ff6 fanboy and it has the same style of turn-based gameplay as ff7, so same diff.

but dicking around in the Mojave Desert was pretty shitty.
no! that was the best part.

I only became an FF fanboy after IX and X. :P

Absolutely loved the original.

Tried to get into PE2 numerous times because of how much I loved the original but each time ended up ditching it, just wasn't clicking.

I haven't played either in probably 11 years. I remember enjoying both, but seem to recall that PE2 somehow made even less sense than 1.

I have the Babbages standees from the original game set up in a room at home. Every time I see them I think of the opera house scene.

The worst part about PE2 is that the analog controls are still tank controls. What a crock, especially after the perfect analog controls in PE1.

I must have missed the part where you could move around in battles, dodge attacks and use positional attacks in FF7. Parasite Eve's closest relative is Vagrant Story.

Also, ATB isn't even turn-based to begin with.

Anything with tank controls is inferior to anything without tank controls.

Game is unplayable to me because of shitty ass controls.

I'm still trying to figure out why someone would say this in response to the quote, let alone the statement itself (it sounds like it could be sarcasm but later posts make it sound serious) and the quote doesn't seem to equate PE2 as being played by RE fanboys...

My brain is full of-!

Holy shit, got a total nostalgia kick from this thread. This easily could have existed ten years ago. It even got some of the same responses it would have back then (FF6 fanboy? seriously?)

They both have interesting points, but I always thought Parasite Eve was always cooler in concept (modern day based game that takes real things, like mitochondria, and goes crazy with them, also being based on a book was pretty cool too) than it ever was in execution.
