Path of Exile (F2P Loot Hack 'n Slash) Open beta later this year

again new patch, a little one :)
Version 0.9.12g
Revamped the music system so that it fades between tracks, plays music properly on loading screens, and can resume music at the right place after reentering areas.

Added some new music for the Vaal Oversoul boss fight.

The passive skill screen now highlights the first nodes you can pick, if you don't have any points allocated. This is based on feedback from the Public Stress Test Weekend.

Added some Energy Shield nodes to the Shadow part of the passive skill tree.

The Ledge waypoint now always points towards the Rocky Climb.

Fixed some bugs with how Blood Monkeys appear when climbing down trees.
and someone found a very interesting new Unique :D

Oh man, Aura nerf from few patches ago.

This is going to make builds matter now that everyone will stop being hybrid and capitalize on some cheap auras for damage and defense.

I did not see these in the FAQ in the first post..

Does your beta character carry over to the full release?

Do your microtransaction purchases (e.g. extra character slots, extra storage tabs, etc) carry over to the full release?

Your character names are carried over, but you lose your items and level progression.

Any cash purchases and competition prize items are carried over.

Can't wait for the public beta to start! Last time I played was during the shadow class launch event. But following the patches, it seems it might be close to a new game if I jump in now. But won't be able to deal with a char wipe heh.

The 0.9.12m patch is somewhat larger than a regular patch and will be deployed hopefully later this week. It contains voice acting for almost all NPCs and characters! (It's currently on Alpha - so if you're an alpha tester, please test it so that the beta users can get it soon!)

A deal with paysafecard (an online payment system for Europeans) has been finalised and support for it will be added to the site soon. It might be a week or two away at most.

Also, if you haven't seen it, you should totally check out this thread about an amazing Rhoa sculpture that one of our players made.

Voice Acting Later this Week :D

Loving TL2 atm, but when that wears off I know I'll be jonesin' for PoE again. Are we any closer to knowing when open beta hits?

I think that with every new idea they are getting further away xD

It won't be that far looks like it will be in very near future. In a week they will deploy patch with voice acting and next update would be arena and PvP. Next should be open Beta.

video about Voice Acting :)

looks like Deckard Cain survived Diablo3 xD

The Daily PoE news, yes they plan to do a daily news the next time for PoE

We've posted a video showing the 0.9.12m NPC voice acting in action. Characters are also voiced in this patch.

The 0.9.12m patch is still being tested on Alpha and is getting pretty close to being ready. At this stage I expect we'll be deploying it to Beta on Friday, NZ time.

I don't have finalised patch notes ready, but I can confirm:
The patch contains two new unique items.
The patch includes a new support gem: Ranged Attack Totem
Three areas in act two have been improved substantially in terms of their randomness (in a similar way to how we recently revamped the randomness of act one).

In non-0.9.12m news, the Arena PvP functionality of 0.9.13 is coming along really well. We've been testing our various PvP scaling formulae and are pretty happy with the results. We can't guarantee it'll be perfectly balanced out of the gate, but that's what you guys are for :)

I'm going to try to post news updates pretty frequently from now on. At the moment there's probably enough news for an update each day

Today's news

Progress on the 0.9.12p patch continues to go well. It'll probably be deployed tomorrow or Friday, NZ time. When it's deployed, the Digital Soundtrack downloads (for $15 supporters and above) will be available in both FLAC and MP3 formats.

The 0.9.12p patch also includes support for a new type of league mode - currently called "Turbo". In this mode, monsters move, attack and cast 60% faster than normal. It's really fun because early act one areas that used to be easy are now super challenging. My last test character died to Fire Fury at level 3. Note that we're not planning to enable this as a permanent league just yet, but we will be running some Hardcore Turbo test events to get feedback on it.

I have one closed beta key to give away!

The first person to quote this post and tell me the names of the six playable classes in Path of Exile will get it!

The 0.9.12qq patch will be deployed on Tuesday, October 9 (NZ time). When it is deployed, all default and hardcore characters (and their items) will be moved to the legacy and hardcore legacy leagues, respectively. The resistance penalties that we have been testing will be enabled on all leagues (at -20%/-40%/-60%).

Legacy migrations are performed occasionally during Path of Exile's Closed Beta in order to move old/unbalanced items out of the default league so that we can get good quality feedback from players' activity. The last one was five months ago, when we deployed 0.9.9. Recently we've been running one-week hardcore events to get balance feedback, but other users have expressed interest in new (especially non-hardcore) leagues to play in.

The new default and hardcore leagues will probably last until the start of Open Beta. It is possible that we will do another migration before then, but that's looking unlikely at this point. The new leagues will have prizes, which will be announced before the leagues start on Tuesday.

In addition, it's worth mentioning that once we add PvP arenas in the 0.9.13 patch, there will be a level 28 PvP tier (as well as the obvious unrestricted category). This means that you could start planning and making your level 28 PvP characters in advance in these new leagues if you're interested in that type of PvP mode. Please note that there will probably be a restriction that means that only characters who have never entered Cruel difficulty are eligible for the level 28 PvP tier. This is to prevent people feeling that they have to rush their character through all the higher difficulties to get the full set of skill point and bandit request rewards. Eventually we'll be adding other PvP tiers, but this is the first one that we're sure of.

It is still our plan to enter Open Beta during 2012. Once the game is in Open Beta and we have done our final wipe, we won't be doing legacy migrations any more. The default leagues will exist forever, but we'll be running special event leagues of various durations (from a few hours to a few months). Once those leagues end, their characters move back to the default leagues.

I understand that while people have been clamouring for a fresh start, many players are going to be disrupted by Tuesday's legacy migration. You're welcome to continue playing your old characters in the legacy league (and can maybe trade for some old overpowered items to have fun with). It's important that we do this week's migration during Closed Beta, so that we can get vital balance feedback before entering Open Beta.

Best of luck with the new ladders. I'll be playing.

Version 0.9.12qq
Notes:

  • A legacy migration has occured at the same time as this patch. All current Default and Hardcore characters are being moved to the Legacy and HC Legacy leagues respectively. Any stashed items are added as extra “Remove only” tabs in your legacy stashes.
Elemental resistance penalties in higher difficulties now apply to all leagues. The penalties are -20%, -40% and -60% in Cruel, Ruthless and Merciless respectively. These do not affect minions. If your resistances are less than zero, you will take additional elemental damage. Chaos resistance does not receive a penalty.
Due to substantial changes to the game balance and passive skill tree, we've wiped all the passive skills again. Please take care reallocating your passives so that you can use your equipment and gems. There will probably not be a passive skill wipe with the deployment of 0.9.13.

Features/Content:

  • Added a hook attack to Brutus.
Updated all the music in the game to the newly remastered versions from the soundtrack.
You can now re-use the Map Device after all its portals are consumed.
You can now repeat a message that contains an item link without it saying "Stale Link". It'll only say that now if the item has been removed.
Increased the size of the Deep Dweller's room and removed the large chest from it.
Further improved the randomness of the Dark Forest area.

Balance:

  • Resistance flasks now last 3.5 seconds rather than 2.0 seconds by default.
The following skills have had their damage modifiers factored into Damage Effectiveness rather than being listed as separate stats (this does not change their damage): Leap Slam, Sweep, Ground Slam, Cleave, Dual Strike, Blade Flurry, Split Arrow, Glacial Hammer and Power Siphon.
Heavy Strike's 50% damage bonus now affects support gems and elemental damage. It is now represented as Damage Effectiveness.
Reduced Flicker Strike's damage bonus from +40% to +25%. This is now also represented as Damage Effectiveness.

Gem Quality Changes:

  • Shield Charge: From 1% damage per quality point to 0.35%.
Phase Run: From 1% damage per quality point to 0.5%.
Cleave: From 1% attack speed per quality point to 0.35%.
Double Strike: From 1% attack speed per quality point to 0.35%.
Whirling Blades: From 1% attack speed per quality point to 0.35%.
Frenzy: From 0.35% attack speed per charge per quality point to 0.2%.
Split Arrow: From 1% attack speed per quality point to 0.35%.
Viper Strike: From 0.5% attack speed per quality point to 0.35%.
Bear Trap: From 1% physical damage per quality point to 0.5%.
Ethereal Knives: From 1% projectile damage per quality point to 0.5%.
Increased Critical Strike Chance (Support): From 0.5% critical strike chance per quality point to 1%.
Melee Physical Damage (Support): From 0.2% per quality point to 0.35%.
Critical Strike Multiplier (Support): From 1% critical strike multiplier per quality point to 2%.
Added Chaos Damage (Support): From 0.5% chaos damage per quality point to 0.35%.
Stun (Support): From 2% stun duration per quality point to 1%.
Cold to Fire (Support): From 0.7% cold and fire damage per quality point to 0.35%.
Weapon Elemental Damage (Support): From 0.5% weapon elemental damage per quality point to 0.35%.
Melee Damage on Full Life (Support): From 0.5% multiplicative melee damage per quality point to 0.35% additive melee damage.

Passive Skill Tree Changes:

  • Pathing in various areas has been made easier.
There are now several more resistance options for all classes.
The Templar's opening passives have been buffed.
Early and middle Shadow passives have been buffed.
Added options for hybrid classes to commit deeply to hybrid defences.
All Energy Shield Delay passives have been reduced from 15% to 10%.
Changed damage/attack speed axe passives to so that they have more damage and less attack speed.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a bug where totems would sometimes not target nearby monsters correctly.
Fixed a bug where monsters and minions were unable to have above 5% chance to get critical strikes.
    Fixed several graphical crashes.
Fixed a server crash that could occur when using a Raise Spectre Totem and certain monsters.
Fixed a server crash that could occur related to minions receiving chance-to-block from the Necromantic Aegis keystone passive skill.
Fixed a crash that could occur when fighting the necromancer boss Sawbones.
Fixed a bug where minions of monsters in Turbo Leagues or Map areas would not have the correct speed bonus.
Fixed problems with the skill hotbar incorrectly displaying disabled skills under various circumstances.
Fixed various problems with players disconnecting during the Fairgraves quest. It should not be possible to get into bad states any more.
Fixed a bug where monsters in high level areas would not do the correct Firestorm damage.
Fixed a bug where Frenzy's damage appeared late with ranged weapons.
Fixed a bug where an incorrect number of charges could be displayed around a character.

.

Wow, that's a fair few major changes. The hook attack added to brutus sounds interesting. Not sure I'm willing to start another character before the game hits Open Beta though. Might just play my current characters in the Legacy League when I get the urge to play.

The game desperately needs some sort of naming policy. Because when you don't have one, people just name their characters as offensively as possible. The actual content of peoples messages can't be policed I understand that, but you can put in some sort of name filter, and it would hardly be a drain on resources. I don't understand why they're doing nothing about it, it reflects really badly on GGG. Maybe they've got plans to add it to OB, but it needs putting in yesterday.

It's stupid to censor anything be it name or chat.

I don't care if dude calls himself ieatbabies or ihateniggers just ignore it. It's not like they doing anything to anyone and game is 18+ so there should be no kids playing this game.

I didn't know its an 18+, though I'd disagree that age is relevant. Where did you see the age restriction?

Game is still in production so there is no official rating. Game needs forum login which states that you must be 18>= to participate in forum.

Is there any indication as to when this game might be released for open beta? I have a closed beta key, but would rather wait until post-wipe before putting any significant amount of time into it.

They've said they're aiming for this year - no date has been announced.

I think, its smart for them to not rush it, because they need to close systems down for open beta and because its fall now, which means people are now playing other games anyway. January or February will be perfect for them.

LoL Chris :)

So they poured in all their life savings—"Which is a great idea, it turns out," Wilson quipped—and started working. After a couple of years they started "fundraising from rich friends," Wilson told me.

"What do you mean by 'rich friends'?" I asked.

"Friends who have lots of money," Wilson said.

"We sold $200,000 of packs in the first long weekend," Wilson said. They're now up to $1.24 million. As of last week, they'd sold 82,240 packs (including 95 $1,000 packages).

GODDAMMIT! Bravo GGG

That also means that only from community we will get 95 uniques :)

This is a great success story of this Kickstarter-style iteration of the "pay what you want" model. You can pay what you want for the product if you think you've gotten value from it, but there are also rewards for people who choose to contribute more.

I am freaking hyped for act 3!

95 1000$ backers = 95 more uniques. Amazing.

Also almost 100k people wanted to try beta. If this go full open beta then we should prepare for server meltdowns

Almost 100k bought a beta :), people who registered are way over 1m.
Yep, open beta start wont be smooth.

i am really excited for .13 patch with the lvl 28 PvP Arena mode :D

You need to build a good build for your lvl 28 char and very good lvl 28 items will be worth so much after this patch, maybe worth more than everything else xD

During the last open weekend, online players shot up from 500 to consistently over 2500. I'm sure GGG will be able to cope with that level.

Oh man I am hyped for PvP... got a killer 109% increased physical damage sword the other day, right on level 28!
