PAX East 2016 - Boston, MA

Bumping. Second post has been updated with meetup info.

If I could get a headcount on who will be coming to the meetup on Saturday night, it will be appreciated. I'm going to try to make a reservation for us, but I'm confident we'll be able to flex a few more folks in.

Auto Age: Standoff, booth 11240! it's a car combat MOBA. toon shaded, very Saturday Morning Cartoon, very fun. supports the now endangered 4-player split screen as well. I'm doing UI iterations for the mostly unfinished HUD and totally unfinished menus. Say hi for me!

Sounds cool, excited to check it out!

Working 2pm-7pm all weekend in the panel rooms. Will be in Arachnid Theatre but trying to see if I swap for Albatross. Will keep you guys posted. If I do any extra shifts, it'll be on Friday and Saturday. Definitely not gonna miss the Giant Bomb panel.

Put me as a maybe/late comer for the Saturday meetup. I'm going to be playing it by ear as the day gets closer. If anyone is on Twitter, I'm @GeneYorkMorgan. Otherwise, texting also works.

BTW, for other Indie games of note to check out, Jobbs is gonna be showing off his game, Ghost Song.

Maybe a buddy too. May or may not get food, but will be around for drinks after

Flying into Boston tomorrow morning!

Just read through the thread. Oh my god I'm going to be drunk as hell while cosplaying....

I dunno if I should try and wear a costume for all three days. It seems like that might be overwhelming.

I made it to my first pax last year, but it was overwhelming, so I wasn't as gung-ho about getting tickets this year. That said, anyone have an extra 3-day pass they're willing to sell at cost?

I missed all the GAF meetups last year too, so that was a bummer. Am trying to make at least one this year!

Hopefully the home of Sam Adams at the BCEC doesn't ya know RUN OUT OF SAM ADAMS THIS YEAR- Last yr was like we have Shocktop or Landshark- DAFUQ!!

First pax east I'm missing. They seem to be getting worse every year for me :/ just nothing interests me at the show right now.

To those coming into Boston, go tour harpoon Brewery. You can walk there from the bcec and while the beer is good the pretzels are amazing.

Take some time off. The show is consistent but repetitive in nature. During my 4 years in college, I went every year and by the last one I would stay at the convention less and less. But after missing out last year, I'm stoked to be going back with my friends (who have never been)

People are not lying Boston gets pretty chilly. I'm from NYC and I didn't realize that you would want to wear a hoodie most of the time.

You've certainly piqued my interest... I have a few buddies coming with me, but I don't see why we can't stop by to say hello that evening. I'll save the thread and come back to it later.

It's just there's nothing on the show floor that is a must see/play for me is all. If there was I'd try to get a ticket.

Only thing I kinda wanna see is the halo esports competition but it's not worth the pax ticket price.

Don't know if I'll be able to make the meet up this time. I went last year and had fun but I'll try this year. I'm trying to go with friends again but this time a more larger crowd so I'm trying to get the details with them. Also I'm still looking for an extra Saturday pass or 3 day pass if anyone has one available

Not sure if I'll be able to make it to the meet-ups but I'll keep an eye on the thread. I'll be hanging out with colleagues at the Borealys Games booth for most of the 3 days if anyone wants to say hi!

Def stop by...the more the merrier.

Thinking of making a Slack channel for communications/meetup purposes. Figure it'll be easier during the show/herding folks for the meetups. WAY easier than texting and posting in the thread on mobile. If that sounds good to anyone, PM me the email address and I'll add you.

Whatever communication medium you guys decide to use, let a brother know ASAP so I can download the app when I'm on Wi-Fi. I have WhatsApp but that's tied to a phone number. I'll be checking the thread periodically in any case and will be on Twitter.

I'm working at the Arachnid Theatre in the afternoon since no one wanted to trade areas. Not too thrilled about it but c'est le vie. Still need to finish packing. I have loads of NY Comic Con swag that I need to get rid of so will take some of it with me.

Oh and if you guys have any recommendations for healthy options on food, I'd much appreciate it. My diet goes to crap out on the road so this year I'd like to take better care of the digestion. As a Hispanic, nothing would make me miss home like some some good old rice and beans with steak from a Dominican restaurant.

So far for recommendations I've got the following:

Go out to walk around Salem
MIT Museum/Climbable wall in their other campus
Brookline Booksmith
Stroll around the Charles/Public Gardens if the weather is nice AKA not Friday
Take the trolley that runs around downtown
Harpoon Brewery tour
Go to Sommerville for the comic store

Food:
Ariana
Pubjabi Daba for 7 thali plates that according to Harvard grad girl is kick ass
The Gallows
Pico (Boston pizza has yet to impress me so we'll see)
Cheers because I've been itching to visit the place and get my inner Ted Danson on

Arrived in Boston this morning. Drove all through the night to have an extra day in the city and so far it seems like a good call - much better weather than 2013.

I'm sad that the BCEC bar will be shut down this year.

Whaaaaaat? Overpriced Sam Adams, but it's still cool to grab a beer at lunch or something. Oh well, I'll just have to get shitfaced after the gym and swagger across the bridge.
I will not be doing that

Slack. PM me your email address and I'll add you to the group.

While I'm here, I wanna eat some seafood.

And there's plenty of it. I recommend James Hook or the Barking Crab. Hook is known for lobster, the Crab is known for your fried seafood type stuff. Either are good. Fantastic, actually. There's the food truck situation too, which...yo.

Weather today is supposed to be fantastic, but always pack a light hoodie. Around the water and especially on bridges you'll be basically in a wind tunnel. Atlantic Ave and Summer Street (which you'll be on) are notorious for it.

Welcome to Boston, GAF. We hope you have a hell of a good time.

Will do. Downloading Slack now. On the bus heading up there. It's quiet, free Wi-Fi, but more of a commuter/transitive feel. Everyone on this bus looks like a PAX attendee or an Enforcer. I miss the road trip antics with my friends from going in a car the past two years. Still, not bad. Will do Mega Bus again in the future for a Canada trip. Would like to try seafood too if I can justify the money. I mean it is Boston.

Running on 1.5 hours of sleep since I was up until 5AM doing last minute packing. Still haven't passed out on the bus yet. Not a coffee drinker but I suspect the reason I'm still awake is because I took a bunch of Starbucks refresher packets and have been swigging on one. My reaction time/alertness is slow though. Can't wait to see lovely old South Station again and have my legs kick into auto pilot walking around the downtown area/to BCEC. The memories are gonna come back strong. Planning on getting lunch with my friend and try to check into the hostel after we touch down.

My AirBnB is in Somerville. Might need to buy some allergy medicine since my host owns some fat as hell cats that are more than friendly.

If anyone's down to do anything while it's still morning, hit me up in the Slack chat. I'm gonna take a nap but I'll hear the alert.

I don't have a ticket but I'm gonna find an excuse to get into Boston for no other reason than the Streepass mecca that is PAX East.

Heading up from CT around 7pm tonight. Just checked the weather and it looks like tonight and tomorrow are going to be great for enjoying the night life.

We always got the intercon for our hotel but this year will be Hilton Boston Downtown.

I've never been to one of these

what's it like?

People and video games everywhere, essentially.

Show floor is wall-to-wall booths from developers, publishers, retailers, media companies, etc. Lots of cool stuff to see and a blast to walk around. Open from 10-6.

The rest of the convention center is mostly theaters and free play or tournament rooms. Free play rooms are just enormous conference rooms with hundreds of game consoles in them that you can use. Go to a a desk and leave your ID to borrow a game/controllers and they'll send you on your way.

Theaters are constantly hosting panels. There's a huge schedule on the official PAX site.

The free play rooms are a great place to get in on competitive games...especially fighting games.

Slack account set. I'm gonna try to knock out in a few minutes after I draw. Will put my phone on silent and turn off the Wi-Fi. My eyes feel somewhat heavy.

This is my first PAX even so I'm excited. Dunno if I'll wear my costume on the first day though.

Would I be able to bring a duffel bag in with my costume and change at the venue, then carry my bag around?

You can bring bags in (there is a bag check line) if you have any weapons there is also a booth where they inspect them to make sure they are not real.

Up to you but i say visit everything first and do your costume on Saturday. Saturday is packed so do your rounds tomorrow and wear it on saturday. Seeing youll prob get stopped for photos and the like.

Does anyone have extra Sunday passes for sale? Or, alternatively, does anyone have 3-day passes they'd be willing to sell me on Saturday afternoon?

My bf can't take Friday off work, so we're kind of scrambling for a way to get a full PAX weekend.

Every year I drive into Boston, this makes me LOL, every year....

new-york-vs-boston.jpg

It's funny because it's true. There is no place in the entire world that has more chaotic driving than Boston. I say that as a person that really enjoys Boston.

If you can drive in Boston, you can drive anywhere.
