PAX Prime 2012 Registration - ALL SOLD OUT

Expo hall remains mostly the same for all 3 days. It's hard to saw what you're going to miss with panels (won't be announced until like a month before so). You're definitely going to miss out on the Omegathon final round, if you're looking for that.

Awesome thanks, I think the only panel we really want to go to is the giantbomb one. I think we also will only check out games we are interested in etc, and will pass on games we know we will play/enjoy on the floor.

Also anyone stay at the sheraton last year? Planning to share 1 room with 2 beds between 4 people just to save some money, do they say anything when people do that ?

I think it's fine as long as you disclose the number of people in the room.

Hotels usually charge slightly more for quadruple occupancy.

Is it confirmed that badges are transferrable? The PAX organizers promised to do something about counterfeits but didn't give details.
I dont think names are on them. They should have some security measure though.
If PAX EAST is any indication, imo prices will come down. This is just a few people making plans now.

Counterfeits and scalping valid tickets are two different things. The issue with counterfeits is they ended up going over the Fire capacity of the convention center which is a safety issue. I'm sure the steps they take to prevent that will work, but they will do nothing to stop scalping.

Certain anti-counterfeiting measures (like stamping names onto badges) would also block resale.

I only ask because I may have to sell my badge due to the hike in airfare + cheap hotels already booked to capacity.

In 2010 I sold an extra pass I had (because my friend couldn't make it) to a fellow GAFfer in person in Seattle at cost with no issue.

They only way they could do that would be if they asked for the names of every person attending at time of purchase and that doesn't happen.

I have a few IRL friends who live in the area who are good candidates to buy my pass, I just need to make sure I can actually sell it to them this year, hence the question as to the extent of 2012's anti-counterfeit technology. I guess I could tweet official_pax and get word.

Ah good. I only bought one pass so I didn't know this. I know BlizzCon gets the name of everyone.

Well it just becomes harder? I got into blizzcon on a badge with a different name.

I'm new to the world of con badge resale. Just getting my ducks in a row so I don't inadvertently commit someone else to a PAX trip and find out I suck and can't deliver the goods properly.

Well at blizzcon convention you have 1 person with the name pick up the tickets. So 1 person to pick up for tickets but they would have to be there in person.

LIGHT BULB! They should just book the BCEC again and have another PAX East in Boston at the same time as PAX Prime in Seattle. West coast and east coast together, simulcast concerts and panels between the two via satellite feed. Could you imagine the online tournaments that could be set up between the two? Invite ACAM back again!

You could also turn the exhibitor hall into a giant paintball battle. Better yet, bring Chevrolet back as a sponsor and we could have a huge Chevy car race inside the exhibitor hall. Come on PAX people, you could do it!

Still...it won't be the same as PAX Prime, so...in honor of PAX sponsors I weep Rohto tear drops and pour a 5-hour energy drink around me....mourning the fact that I won't be able to visit Seattle this Summer for Prime. *sniffles*

This past PAX East took weeks to sell out. Admittedly it was during Easter weekend, which probably depressed sales, but it seemed to sell slower. I think it's larger, too, which helps.

Don't quote me on this, but East didn't sell out this year until maybe the day of. I believe they had Sunday (Easer) badges available at the door this year and it was really quiet on the showfloor too compared to the Saturday crowd

By sell out, I meant the 3-days and Friday and Saturday. I don't believe Sunday ever did sell out, or did it?

I don't believe it did. Or, at the very least, I never saw an announcement of it. I believe at some point on during Fri/Sat of East they said they still had badges for sale for Sunday on-site. Guessing no one was turned away.

Gonna try my best to go. Really wish I could get a cheap flight out of NY. It's gonna be a killer. I know passes will show up on sale this summer from people who can't go or whatever.

Haha - I saw this on the official PAX forum:

PAXForum said:
I would like to state for the record that the Worst Registration System™ ever, in my opinion, still goes to NeoGAF. If you've ever tried signing up there, please keep them in mind before posting an opinion on this year's PAX Prime's ticket sales

As for scalpers, for the 3-day passes at least PAX says each credit card bought on average 1.75 passes, so that means there weren't many people buying lots of passes just to scalp them. I wouldn't be surprised if a number of people bought 1 for themselves, 1 for scalping, though...

As for counterfeiting, apparently they really cranked up the security measures on the passes at PAX East, and it wasn't nearly as big of an issue. Plus, they setup a system where if you were buying a scalped ticket in the area, you could grab the seller and take them to the info booth, which would verify that the ticket was real before you gave the seller your money (it's never advised to buy a ticket online, as there's no way to verify counterfeits that way)

Well it's a combination of a lot of things:

a) Easter weekend, which may be a schedule conflict for a lot of people
b) Anime Boston running in the same weekend (and there was a booth showing the traffic there, not sizeable, be definitely a dent)
c) A bigger venue with a larger cap than Prime
d) A typically less "marketable" lineup (with only a handful of coming soon games)

I guess next year Gaffers should buy extras for other Gaffers. I would have done that if I had known it would sell out in like a day.

I might try to go next year. I'll definitely be sure to buy my ticket as soon as they're available though.

Still sad I missed out on going by about a week in 2008. Was living in Seattle, and ended up having to move rather suddenly. Haven't had the opportunity to go since then with the expense of plane tickets and a hotel.

They're losing their mainstream appeal with how fast this shit is selling out -- especially to those with jobs during the day.

The scalping this year is going to be absolutely insane. Something has to be done.

I 100% agree. Prior to last year, I had went to every PAX all the way back to the days when just a few thousand of us crammed into the Meydenbauer center.

After catching swine flu in 2009 and spending 6 hours waiting in two lines to play a 15min demo of Duke and DA2 in 2010, I chose to sit 2011 out. The best parts are the panels and the concerts. I wish I could just buy some passes to a few panels and completely forgo the show floor.

I'm sure pricing will drop by half closer to the event starting up.
Hotels and Airfare... not so much.

Glad I got my passes when I did. But man, I waited to book the hotel one extra day and almost all the bookings are taken. Oh well, the wife gets treated to a 4-star hotel ...

I don't think Penny-Arcade has quite the manpower to plan and execute two simultaneous conventions. Do they even have 20 employees yet? It would probably cut down on ticket demand but it can't be by that much. You'd have to be pretty rich with a lot of free time for that kind of con tour.

I wouldn't like going to a convention knowing that some of the things I want to see might only be happening on the other side of the country.

Bullshit! Went last year and was so excited for this years. Ugh so depressing... If any gaffers cant go keep me in mind, I'll buy a 3 day pass.

PAX was way overly crowded last year, worried about this year given this

I doubt there will be more people. I think they kinda capped on that a few years ago. They might arrange things differently, space things out more, if anything.

I hope so for everyone who's got tickets.

Last year was pretty ridiculous. 1-2 hour (or more) waits for 10-15 minute playthroughs on pretty much all the big titles, and the convention center was pretty damn packed all around.

Not that it's entirely unexpected for something as big as PAX is becoming, but it wasn't like that (to my recollection, at least) back in 2008.

Hope not to go too far off topic, but I still don't understand why people wait in the lines to try the AAA demos at PAX. There's so many better experiences within minutes yet people spend hours waiting in line for something they'll play in a couple months.

Max Payne 3 and Borderlands 2 were pretty nice to get some hands on and talk to a PR/dev person.

I had some time sink areas where I could wait if I needed to.

Oh sure, talking to devs directly is one of my favorite things about the show, but the lines to play their game isn't necessary for that.
