PC version of Game of Thrones (RPG) worth playing?

The Game of Thrones RPG game is currently £3.74 on Steam. Now, I know the reviews for this game weren't great, but some of them stemmed from technical problems with the PS360 versions, and as I'm a big fan of the ASoIaF books as well as RPGs in general I am tempted to give the PC version a go.

Is it worth playing at all? I'm not too bothered about wasting £3.74 but I don't really want to stick several hours of my (currently limited) time into something that I'll just abandon.

What's the GAF opinion on this thing?

It's generally considered ranging from barely decent to terrible.
Nothing a lot of people would recommend, but then again it's dirty cheap so I guess it's all about how curious to try it you feel.

It's an ugly, buggy, repetitive game. It also features a pretty excellent narrative that does a good job of complimenting events of the first novel.

Your gaming priorities will determine if you love or loathe it.

I really feel like I want to dive into this at some point, just because I'm a bit of a GoT junkie.

But I'm also hesitant to buy into these claims of it having a 'great narrative' as I know what generally passes as 'great story' by video gamer standards.

People who play it for more then 1 hour tend to like it. Its worth the sales price on steam right now.

Dont expect it to be anything groundbreaking though.

Cyanide makes above decent games.

How open/linear is it? Any side-quests and backtracking or is it mainly story-based?

I think I might take the plunge.

If you like Game of Thrones.

GET IT.

If you like great stories in videogames.

GET IT.

If you have patience and decent attention span.

GET IT.

Otherwise, don't get it.
Personally, I rate this game as having one of the greatest videogame stories I ever experienced. It is up there with Witcher 2 and Torment for me (Torment is unbeatable obviously).
Just make sure to get through the first few hours. And if you do not enjoy the combat, set it on easy and don't be ashamed of that.

It is quite linear, but there are some pretty meaty sidequests. It is not open world in any way. If you played KOTOR I would compare it to that, gameplay-wise.
But really. The narrative is just so great. The way both protagonists are written is brilliant.
Go read RPS review, it persuaded me to try the game in the first place:

It's okish. It has a surprisingly good story, marred with some fairly bland and uninteresting gameplay.

This is the best advice out, just set it on easy and roll through the great story - the combat is quite horrible.

Get the CK2 GoT mod.

Closest thing to a true GoT experience we'll ever get.

Plot assassinations, torture people, imprison them, sleep with lots of women, kill your enemies, kill their families, take over the whole kingdom etc etc.

Agreed.

It also has some pretty great characters, some great music from both the show and original compositions for the game.
