Let's first examine who made this report. It's the pentagon. An administration who's sole objective can be summed up as to retain and expand the power of the USA.

One could argue they are taking a long term stance that since this is a country of immigrants they need to prevent any form of social unrest in their own way by promoting acknowledgement and acceptance of other immigrant groups that came after the original settlers. It can also be argued that if they fail hard at integrating various ethnic groups they will be less capable of tackling their known and potential foreign enemies in the future because they lack the personnel that would have additional insight or who would have access to contacts in those foreign countries.


Let's now ignore this is the pentagon and think about what we are as a country. When we went into a civil war we did so because it was with the full intent of ensuring various dipshits couldn't leave the union and weaken our overall strength. After the Union defeated the Confederates we botched the reconstruction process and to this day those states remain among the poorest in the country even beating out some of less populated landlocked western states.The only thing that has changed recently is that they have now become the fastest economically growing bloc but are still among the most dependent for government assistance.

Should we suddenly abandon the south because they are weak and have been weak because our ancestors fucked up Reconstruction? No we shouldn't no more than we shouldn't abandon ethnic groups that have been put a historical disadvantage and still need time to assert themselves in society.

If you actually were a man of history you would know that black institutions that were meant to bring us together were quickly squashed by corporate powers as well as various laws erected after the war to keep social mobility and economic power in check. Our country has transformed itself into being a lot more humanitarian. Ask the Japanese.

You are now living in a time when we can assert ourselves more economically as group so you are the one who has to tough it out and deal with it.

The US army is doing this to curb racism within its own ranks. Soldiers come from all over the country and may have been raised with racist attitudes or backgrounds. I have to admit that this rubs me a little bit the wrong way. Not only is there an implication that whiteness and racism are paired but it also is suggesting that much of history has something to do with whiteness. I don't think that's the case. There's nothing inherent to being white that caused what happened in the past. At least nothing that isn't inherent to other races as well such as preference for in groups and such. No, it's the simple fact that they were in power and in the majority. Once you have power, you don't want to give it up. And I contend that's not a trait exclusive to whites.

Also, supporting the leadership of people of color seems off to me too. Shouldn't people in the military be supporting their leaders regardless of color (unless the leader tells them to do something they shouldn't)? It seems to me that the goal is to get to a point where we don't give a flying fuck what race a person is. Hopefully someday that will be as unremarkable a fact about a person as his/her eye color. I'm not sure that focusing heavily on race is a way to get there. Not that we should (currently) entirely ignore it either, mind.

Last, what about other forms of privilege? After all, it's demonstrably the case that tall people get hired and promoted more than shorter people. The same goes for attractive people. I know I have a natural advantage in most fields because I'm 6'4". Should I feel bad about that privilege? Should we do something to correct for my unfair advantage?

Would or should? Maybe they don't want to but absolute power corrupts absolutely, and they've had a long time to let things sit, stew and corrupt. They're doing a bad job and only benefiting themselves off the higher positions they gained on the backs of others.
