People tell me winamp is better than itunes

I think those are all pretty ugly.

I use ClearOne right now:

but I might switch back to Spirit soon:

I love Winamp because it basically does its job without whining.

Unlike iTunes:

'OHH, you're trying to close me down?! NO! I still have processes running! YOU WAIT!"

"OHH! You're trying to load me up? Well I'm going to take my time! You go browse the web, I'll be loaded up in about a minute!!"

"OHHHH! Don't think for one second that I'll load up properly for you-- Click on me! DO IT! Time to pop up all funky with my UI turned black!"

I don't really enjoy using foobar because it's a bit too basic.

i agree itunes is very slow, i have been trying to use winamp or foobars
but they just look so ugly... anyone can recommend me some handsome skin for winamp or foobars?

Condolences to all PC users. I find the organizing capabilities of iTunes to be excellent. It's a shame it sucks on PCs. : /

Apple did improve Safari performance on PCs, perhaps iTunes will see the light of day?

Thanks for proving my point. Those GUIs are terrible, unintuitive messes (actually, the third looks fine).

Though, nothing beats iTunes when it comes to playlist creation and the managing of song folders.

I'll probably switch to winamp anyways for playing music since iTunes is so damn slow. I'll just use iTunes for managing my music and my iPhone.

The top one seems like it would have a bit of a learning curve, but that second one is just downright gorgeous. I might need to try it.

BTW, it's easy to tell if a GUI is good or not, when it comes to MP3 players. Just take one look at it, and if you need to have to guess what each button does, then it's a bad GUI. If the buttons aren't entirely readable, it's a bad GUI. If it's lacking some essential features (EQ, Playlist, etc...) on the main screen it's a bad GUI. Going by these criteria, you can tell that WMP11 has one of the worst GUIs out there.

My problem with the second you posted is that while it's minimalistic, I'm not sure how to access the extra features. Do you just click on that circle?

I'll ask this question again it seems I am getting ignored.

Does anybody know why Winamp keeps crashing after 2 or 3 weeks? When I reinstall it all it works for about 3 weeks, then it crashes on each startup :(

Have you tried uninstalling it and then deleting the entire directory where it lives and installing the latest version?

Proposition, I use something similar: It blends perfectly with Vista. :)

I am made red block around it for everyone to see. :)

Real men use foobar. Also, there's many reasons why I avoid iTunes, but probably the most important one:

iTunes memory usage in red.
foobar's blue.
Real men judge memory by the VM size, not Mem usage.

*edit*

I will lay down the winamp GUI smackdown when i get home :)

VM + Mem is the true measurement that should be used. That's the total amount of memory being used.

iTunes doesn't even support Global Hotkeys. And if you are using Winamp without using the Global Hotkeys, you are screwing yourself.

IIRC its not 1 + the other.

VM is how much the memory the application allocates (cannot be stolen until the application closes), and Mem usage is how much the application is currently using (can be stolen by other apps)

i dont remember exactly if that is how it works though so if you can inform me i will be glad to listen.

Yeah I've tried installing it on a different partition after deleting everything + registry stuff...I have no idea why it keeps happening and it saddens me because Winamp is prob my fav music player..

try a virus/spy/mal ware scan... Also try redownloading Winamp with minimum things and don't allow it boot up or allow any association to occur...

How about:

"OHHHH, you're playing a game? Let me minimize that for you so I can alert you about the new version of Itunes that's out!"

I always thought it was one plus the other, unless someone can prove otherwise.

i generally avoid installing additional software to do what windows is supposed to do already. I used to like winamp, years ago, but lately i use wmp for mostly everything, since it sits there anyway.

I would really like to install foobar one day, but i once read through posts to make it look as cool as other ppl's and sounded too complicated.

Oh, i used to have deliplayer installed; used it to play c64 and amiga tunes; back then it was the only one which could play custom format files such as Huelsback's and Follin's.

God...those Winamp skins are so ugly and way too cluttered.

This is why I prefer Foobar, the following is just 1 skin/config in different modes.

Far sleeker and useful.

I agree, totally meh... I tend to listen to a tracks as I do homework or as I play some games and when I have everything upper minimized. I want something will seem it is integrated with the window... I used the same skin when I had Windows XP with the Silver skin. :)

Winamp + Jammix Enhancer DSP plugin + Good set of headphones.

It's hard to listen to anything on headphones without Jammix. It's not just a simple EQ.. I can get it to sound just like the bass boost effect on my old MD player. Fletcher munson curve forever! Anyone using Winamp should check it out.

That skin is fucking sexy! I think I'm going make a new directory to try it out! This is my Foobar right now. It being lean is intentional, since I use the classic theme on my desktop. I'm bummed the Album Art panel that can read for FLAC isn't compatible right now.

And LOL at Cogent posting that ugly ass default Winamp skin as if it's something special. Comeon now.

If you think the skin is sleeker, you're ignoring the fact that the Foobar skin posted has different display modes, from minimal to database view and in-between.

I don't know why people complain about the memory usage of itunes. It works just fine with my six year old thinkpad with music played through an external hard drive.

A lot of you here need to state why you think the other players are better like the OP asked rather than posting a boastful statement. It just renders your comment useless.

I honestly can't comprehend how people can prefer those shitty winamp skins (far sleeker? LOL) over a well config'd foobar. Whatever, different stroke for different folks.

Ok how about you rar that Foobar2000 folder of yours and let me at it ^_^

please?

I don't understand the point of any visuals to be honest. I just have foobar minimized to the systray and use global hotkeys to control it.

What resolution do you use for your album art? I have the same skin but all my stuff looks blurry.

Most of them are 500x500 or above. Hm...I remember there was a program I had before that searches the album art for you (on all major music sites), but I can't find it anymore.

I don't know if this is way off topic or not, but does anyone know how I can get the Zune software to scrobble stuff using Last.fm. There's supposed to be third party programs or something that do the trick, like Zenses, but I don't really know how to use them.

On topic: I used iTunes initially and made the switch to Winamp about a year after. Loved the interface and navigation of it a bunch, but then I got a Zune and a Zune pass subscription, so I now use the Zune software, which is worse than Winamp but better than iTunes, in my opinion.

looks like i need to upgrade to the latest foo_ava. i'm on 1.04 and i customized it (art and code) to my liking. not sure i want to change

I have winamp, WMP11, and FB2k (with that skin shown above) installed. My Winamp setup is by FAR the best-looking, but in terms of quickly finding what i want to play and playing it, i prefer WMP11.

I don't use FB2k much. The 10mb or so of memory saved isn't worth the headaches to get it configured properly.

Also, mediamonkey screwed up my tags so i uninstalled it.

Can you use a iPod with Foobar? If so please rar ur foobar config for me ^_^

They're both garbage.
But I use iTunes anyways due to podcasts and my shuffle.

EDIT: Ok. That's a bit harsh.
But I haven't yet found a music player I really like.

I have no idea.

I gave a link to the config in the post above. Its a .exe so you its simple as hell to install.

Seems like it's kind of moot point, but...I would tend to fall on the Winamp side of things too. iTunes has too much bloat and just hogs to much memory and Winamp is far more of a all-in-one player.

Also I'm sure I like it better because I don't care all that much about organizing my music, I'm sure iTunes is much better in that regard.
