Have you guys ever seen a dog eat as fast as he can? like making noises and generally a mess all over his dish and face?

That is me

I remember in high school how 40 minute lunches would go

Talk shit for 15 outside cafeteria
Stand in line for 15 while talking shit
Eat food in 5
Talk more shit for 15

Math dont add up?
Well fuck being on time for post lunch classes.

I'm a fast eater, it usually takes me 5-10 minutes to eat most meals. I can eat a regular sized hamburger in like 5 minutes. It's just how i eat.

Meh, I'm in the same boat as you, OP. I had an ex that would totally wolf down their food in seconds. They'd be done with dinner before I even sat down. It feels like people that eat that quickly aren't enjoying the food.

No time to savor, man.

I eat my food fast.

I cannot stop doing it. I've tried countless times when eating with slow eaters. I can't.

When I was a baby/infant my Mom shovelled food into my mouth extremely quickly and we think that set the way that I eat for life.

Maybe if you didn't spend hours eating a cookie like a psychopath you wouldn't have to pass the time by judging everyone else's eating speed.

I've always eaten fast. I just don't understand people who sit around with one meal for half an hour. Hurry the fuck up.

Slow eaters are the real problem.

I've been told I eat rather quickly

In grade school we were sent outside for recess after 15 minutes so you had to throw away anything you hadn't eaten by that point... I think that's probably why I've always eaten quickly.

For some people the satisfaction comes from filling one's self up, not necessarily the flavour. Sure, it's somewhat a part, but not what they enjoy most. I don't see how it really matters. To be bothered by it seems a bit persnickety.

I savor some things but in general I eat fast. I look at it this way.

You have 3 meals a day.
if each meal takes you about 3 minutes to eat from start to finish it takes you 9 minutes per day to eat.

if you eat slow and savor everything you are likely looking at closer to 15 minutes per meal on average (or longer but lets go with 15) or 45 minutes per day to eat.

Lets start calculations at age 10, and see how things look by age 70.

at 9 minutes a day 365.25 days a year for 60 years. you get 197235 minutes of eating or, a little under 137 straight days of your life spent on eating.

at 45 minutes a day 365.25 days a year for 60 years you get 986175 minutes of eating or, a little under 685 straight days of your life spent on eating. given the numbers I used it should be no surprise you spent 5 times as much time eating, but after removing the difference you might be surprised that eating slower will cost you about 1.5 years of your life over the course of 60 years.

note: I know my times aren't perfect, a lot of people likely take more than 45 minutes to eat in a day, and 3 min per meal is a tad fast. though it's rare for me to eat for longer than 5 minutes unless I am talking with people while eating.

thus I savor select things, but in general I just eat quickly with most other things as I don't want to waste my time on something like eating.

Why would I keep food in my mouth more than a minute? It's just gross. I'm not a cow to chew food as it is gum.

If I'm eating spicy food I will be delighted to keep it in my mouth for 5 minutes? How about you having 30 minutes to eat your lunch before getting to work?

Stop trying to look sofisticated OP.

what about those restaurants that have those little baby one bite tasting plates. do people not taste the tiny food because they can eat it in one bite cmon op

If you don't eat fast there might not be food later. General rule growing up with a big family on a budget.

That and we were usually always on the run. Ain't got time to sit around eating. Need to move and get shit done.

OP makes me sick. Eating his food that way.

I take 20 mins to eat a cookie, if you're eating faster you might as well just be tube fed for all the benefit you get from the taste.

I eat fast. No time for chit chat, mouth is full and I am shovelling the next lot in before the first goes down.

I will eat at moderate pace in a restaurant just to be social, at home food takes precedence over talking.

I eat slow almost all the time. No regrets. I'm often doing something else while eating so taking time isn't an issue as I'm not just staring at a wall while I slowly get through a meal.

Fast eaters annoy me a bit. I'm with the OP on this. Who knew 98% of folks here are human garbage disposals?

I eat fast much to the chagrin of my spanish relatives. I do love conversing over dinner, so I try to make it up.

I'm pretty much always the last to finish my food when eating at a restaurant. The worst part is that everyone else assumes that eating fast is the right thing. It really isn't. Food is supposed to be eaten slowly, chewed carefully and savoured both for safety and taste. You pay to eat food fast? Might as well eat that powdered nutrient stuff they give people to put it in a shake.

It bothers me to no end that some people think it's impossible to really enjoy food without masticating and chomping on the food for 30 seconds and taking tiny bites. I don't exactly like chewing something until it's a big wad of saliva-goop and wash it around my mouth like a mouthrinse. I want to eat it.

I still enjoy every crumb of the food, worry about your own problems.

I like how some people get embarrassed because they finish their food much faster than me. I eat extra slow when they're done so they can think about what they did.

I ain't eating faster for no fool.

I don't care how others eat as long as I don't hear them. That is the worst.

People annoyed by moderate food eating sounds are the worst.

How about you just mind your own mastication and don't position your particular mannerisms as the fucking standard everyone should be judged against.
