I savor some things but in general I eat fast. I look at it this way.
You have 3 meals a day.
if each meal takes you about 3 minutes to eat from start to finish it takes you 9 minutes per day to eat.
if you eat slow and savor everything you are likely looking at closer to 15 minutes per meal on average (or longer but lets go with 15) or 45 minutes per day to eat.
Lets start calculations at age 10, and see how things look by age 70.
at 9 minutes a day 365.25 days a year for 60 years. you get 197235 minutes of eating or, a little under 137 straight days of your life spent on eating.
at 45 minutes a day 365.25 days a year for 60 years you get 986175 minutes of eating or, a little under 685 straight days of your life spent on eating. given the numbers I used it should be no surprise you spent 5 times as much time eating, but after removing the difference you might be surprised that eating slower will cost you about 1.5 years of your life over the course of 60 years.
note: I know my times aren't perfect, a lot of people likely take more than 45 minutes to eat in a day, and 3 min per meal is a tad fast. though it's rare for me to eat for longer than 5 minutes unless I am talking with people while eating.
thus I savor select things, but in general I just eat quickly with most other things as I don't want to waste my time on something like eating.
