" An ethnic group is a group of people whose members identify with each other, through a common heritage that is real or assumed.[1][2] This shared heritage may be based upon putative common ancestry, history, kinship, religion, language, shared territory, nationality or physical appearance. "

Can we put this to a rest and stop writing " nationality=!=!=!=!=!= race DERP! "?
Ethnicity is also not race.

I never said they were.

What I claim is that you can be racist towards people with certain ethnicity, race and nationalitiy.

Since I'm sure you barely read the thread let me repost :

racial group means "any group of people who are defined by reference to their race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin

that is : racist towards a racial group, which includes for example above.

But screw this :D only 3 out of the 20 or so who posted got what I meant instead of hanging up on nonsense

Can't find the video for this episode, but this pretty much sums it up:

Stan: Hey, isn't that kid Kevin Chinese?

Kyle: Yeah. You're from China.

Kevin: No, I'm from America. My parents are Chinese.

Stan: Tell us how the Chinese play dodgeball!

Kevin: I have no idea, dude.

Cartman: Come on, rice-picker!

Chef: Hey, hey hey! Children, that's not cool! You don't make fun of somebody because of their ethnicity!

Stan: You don't?

Kyle: But Chef, you just ripped on Chinese people.

Chef: No no no no no. That's different. I made fun of them because they are from China.
You see, it's *not* okay to make fun of an American because they're black, brown, or
whatever, but it *is* okay to make fun of foreigners because they are from another country.

Stan and Kyle: Oooooh...

Yeah, you have to walk a fine line, but that's pretty much it. Then again, isn't that the case for most things, especially in comedy?

Oh I concur, but thats if its funny. People being labeled as cowards ( even though they have troops out there dying ) isnt really funny.

And people in this thread have subconsiously validated some of my points already.

Someone said Canada was a non-military country ( sorry for not quoting correctly ) yet this is what I found on the topic of coalition casualties in afghanistan

" Coalition deaths in Afghanistan by country
USA: 1,020*
UK: 293
Canada: 146*
Germany: 47
France: 43 "

Its funny how a big part of those are from a nation of cowards and non-military people ey?

Race is a funny category though... it's basically a broad grouping of humanity into similar ancestry and broadly similar features.

I mean, if a Korean hates on a Chinese person... that's technically not racism. They are the same "race" according to the definition. It's ethnic-ism or nationalism.

But come on, we'd call it racism.

You miss the point. The distinction is between nationality instead race or ethnic origin.

If we don't like the stereotype, we can change ourselves, our policies, etc. And I think that does happen . . . as many people have pointed out, the British teeth thing is really an outdated meme in reality.

And if one really hates the stereotype, you can move to another nation. You can't change your race or ethnicity.
Eh, I really can't agree with using choice alone to excuse small-mindedness. Besides, you can't choose where you're born and changing nationality is not a trivial matter.

We ideally use those for "peace keeping" missions... and Afghanistan was sold to us as a peace-keeping mission in the interest of the world (whether or not "peace-keeping" is just jargon for the usual war, or whether it applies in the case of Afghanistan, is a matter of lefty debate).

When it came to the Iraq war, which we didn't see as peace-keeping... we said "hell no" we aren't participating.

Don't use stereotypes to treat others as second-class or subhuman or to rub salt in others' wounds.

That I know ^^ but my point was merely that calling for example the french cowards, while they have soldiers in a warzone, is pretty moronic. But that goes for all racism :p, still though.

I'd be willing to argue that if your basis is on the definition of ethnicity then you have to take into account that people have the possibility to identify with each other through a common heritage but they do not need to include the examples.

If we want to get really specific, the term race is a misnomer since every human is from the same race Homo Sapien.

I always just hear the joke that Canadians are always overtly polite.

Exactly, race is a combination of ethnicity, culture, heritage and, to be quite frank, physical appearance. It's a combination of everything. I took a lot of diversity classes while in college (professors were really easy), and they felt uncomfortable even using the word "race" because it connotes only negative feelings. Technically, the word doesn't even really mean anything in particular. However, people tend to use it solely to point out physical differences between groups.

Might be true.

I feel the same of British stereotypes though... Very polite and proper... and really Canada is an extension of British "civilized society" taken to a kind of low-brow North American frontier version.

We are, and fuck off if you don't agree with that.

I think the term "race" is racist. In part because I'm not sure what race actually means. Both Indians and East Asians are considered Asian yet they have nothing in common phenotypically other than a propensity for dark hair and eyes (although northern Indians fairly regularly have blue eyes).

French, British, and Canadian aren't races.

P.S. Americans are loud, fat, and dumb.
That is why we have given the world Cheerios, the ThighMaster, and Chinese food? Game. Set. Match.

What do you do with it once you open the bag? Are they resealable? If not, wouldn't you have to pour it into something to keep it from spilling when you put it back in the fridge? Doesn't that defeat the purpose entirely of bagged milk?

This is now a bagged milk hate thread.

I will remind the world, as I do in every bagged milk thread, that the evil has been contained to a select few provinces.

We will do our best to neutralize the threat.

Sincerely,
The Good Parts of Canada

Oh, that picture is serious? I thought it was just someone being satirical by putting the bag of milk into a pitcher. Holy shit. The idiocy that goes into bagged milk is just blowing my mind right now.

The bag remains in the pourer, and you use a clip to close the opening. Aside from cost, there is no advantage to bagged milk compared to cartons. You waste fridge space storing extra bags that don't stack, and it is difficult to pour with one hand.

Canadians docile and mentally slow?

As a Canadian, I've never heard that one. I'm all for making fun of Canadians, but that's a new one to me. What's this based on? I guess docile I can see, all that 'sorry aboot that' and stuff, but where's the mentally slow thing come from?
What, have you never seen Strange Brew?

That's what we think all Canadians are like, hoser.

Probably because everyone in Canada is a lumberjack or a Mountie.

This has turned ugly. From a simple debate about racism to something much, much more sinister - how to properly contain milk.

Fuck bagged milk... now I'm just angry. I'm embarrassed that my fellow countrymen would do something so unspeakably vile. I'm sorry world, I'm sorry. :(

It's time to talk about separation. Sorry, but it's true. Canadians no longer share the same values.

jesus christ, that is just some of the vilest shit I've ever seen in my life. goddamit

I can think of too many examples of French heroism to believe that one.

Italian families rudely dominating the pool at hotels and resorts: fact.
