Persona 3 Portable Announced.

Somehow I completely missed the part where they said that you can play as the male MC too and thought P3P was basically going to be Persona 3: Girl's Side. I wouldn't do that in the first place (unless they put in data-sharing so I can throw my FES save file onto my PSP and vice-versa; the best feature ever that more games should use), but I'm glad to see the option's there. I thought it was strange that they would just remove the old MC.

I don't know, incorporating the female character is going to take a lot of rearranging unless they take the easy way out and only change the dialog for the existing S. Links.

You bet they will take the easy way out.

Sure, they could make a completely different "parallel" scenario that would examine the situation had the protagonist been born a female, but they might as well make a new game.

Persona 3: Girl's Side is not a bad idea, but it wont bring the absurd profits that this game would get with just a dialog change here and there.

Ken is by far my most hated character.

I went out of my way to never use him.

I wasn't. I was posting it as an example of a Japanese game screwing with the gender of mythological figures. I think it's a travesty in the FSN context just as it would be asinine in the Persona 3 context.

I'm not talking about a completely different parallel scenario, just the basic changes necessary to incorporate a female protagonist or P4's improvements. 95% of the story dialog and almost all of the random dialog around town and school will remain unchanged, as will 70% of the S. Links. 5 of the S. Links need non-dating versions (Strength, Justice, Empress, Lovers, Priestess). Considering that they seem to be bringing most of P4's important changes, I really think they're adding Junpei, Akihiko, and Ken as S. Links. That would involve some S. Link shuffling, though, as their arcana (Strength, Emperor, and Justice) are already taken. The Answer would remain essentially unchanged except for pronouns (maybe Yukari's breakdown). This is assuming, of course, that Atlus isn't just shoehorning a lesbian into the MC's role.

I'm kind of surprised they tossed in a new character for Elizabeth's role. That just seems a bit strange. Like somebody else speculated earlier, I wonder what this means for Pharos' gender, if that too will be switched.

I still wonder where and why they're incorporating new music. Maybe more distinct music for each block of Tartarus?

One easier and one harder (maniacs) difficulty are included, but what will they change?

I like how large the character portraits are in the screens. They're like the size of Raidou 2's or Devil Survivor's.
 
Hope this gets a US release. I got rid of my PS3 before I got a chance to play Persona 3 or 4. I really like playing RPGs on the PSP, because of how easy it is to put the system into sleep mode. Works well for playing a few minutes at a time, and for stopping even when you're not near a save point.

I like the chances of a Tartarus redesign and shrink the excess exploration but I ain't begging on it either.
 
Maybe they can use some of those Reincarnation remixes of the songs. Although I don't think the Deep Breath remix will fit the game scenes its used for.:D

Since persona seems to be selling like hot cakes in the US, and if we all buy Persona PSP, then it should be guaranteed to come out here.

It's different. There's a whole ne protagonist option, plus a lot of the UI streamlining that P4 did is included. We don't know too much more yet, waiting on the website to come up, myself.

I'd wait for P3P. They seem to be adding the biggest improvements from P4.

I can't imagine Atlus removing FES' improvements yet adding P4's, except maybe The Answer, and even that I find unlikely.

And I don't know how much these "hints" mean, but they kept FES' hard mode, and there's no reason to replace Elizabeth unless they've kept FES' dating scenes.

That depends. Personally, not having control of my party and having them occasionally make some dumbshit decision that turned the battle against me ensured that I will never finish the main game, let alone touch The Answer. In my book, full party control makes this the better game whether or not the FES content's there.

And if it's not, I'm pretty sure you can jump right into The Answer right away in FES, so if you absolutely couldn't bear not to see it and double-dipped, at least you wouldn't have to go through the whole campaign again on the PS2.
 
I can kinda see them removing the Answer if space becomes an issue on the UMD....and to tell you the truth, I probably wouldn't mind too much.

Although imagine playing The Answer on Maniacs difficulty!:lol

And could someone explain to me what Fate / Stay Night is? I keep seeing people bring it up but I've never heard of it...
 
Ya know, I just booted back up P3 and started a new game in celebration and one thing I wish they had kept for P4 was the little cutaways of the characters faces whenever something occurs, like Junpei's shocked look that flashes up on the screen when Yukari tells you not to say anything about last night.:lol
 
Yeah, that was awesome. Very manga-esque.

And that scene owned! I love P3 so much.
 
But... the level restriction for Personas bought from the compendium is taken out. So not being able to keep your level is really not a big deal.

Sure! Why not. Couple things:

Switching Yukari/Fuuka/Mitsuru/Yuki/Socialreta...er, Chihiro for Akihiko/Junpei/Ken?/Star guy/Magician guy? Potential monkeywrench:
Junpei's infatuation with whatsherface with the Steve Martin gag thru her head.

Also, some places are going to have to be much easier this time around without the clunky, live-in-the-moment AI calling the shots. Or, conversely, nerf the MC to P4 levels.

I actually feel the opposite. I thought keeping the levels in 3 made New Game+ boring, just because it took the whole strategy of combat out the window.

I dunno. I like it, but I think they balanced it out in P4 by just making the characters themselves far more emotive.

Yeah, I was thinking about the disc size issue. I looked at a torrent site and it seems like the P3 iso is around 2.5 GB and the maximum UMD size is 1.8 GB. If they are adding new content to the main game then something has to give. Just so long as they don't downsample the voices.

Nope, that's through awesome compression from WinRAR. Speaking strictly on the undub version of P3:FES, it was roughly 4 gigabytes when extracted.

Adds: Hope this isn't ban worthy >.>

Edit: And if you rip your own copy, it's still 4 gigabytes.
 
About fucken time Atlus added a female character option. Very little would have to be change for it to work in so many of their games (although, a lot would have to be changed in this one ironically).

EDIT: I will be picking up a PSP down the road and I will definitely get this if it gets released stateside
Altus USA must be pissed, second time they rerelease this game and I'm sure everyone expects it to come over :lol .

They'll piss everyone off with the domestic release's cover art being one-color silhouettes again!!

I dunno. Atlus USA probably isn't that pissed since this game at least is an almost guaranteed profit for them here.
 
I'm pretty sure Atlus USA knew about this and Strange Journey before they were revealed.

A localization is like 100% sure thing.
