Persona 5 - Coming 2015 - PS3/PS4

Still don't know why P5 wasn't in the Sony conference; this is an exclusive for 2015 with a lot of deserved hype.

I cannot wait; every time I watch the reveal trailer I get hyped all over again.

I agree. It was the right time to give it a main stage spotlight/push. It has gained a lot of popularity/a following in the last 5 years. Critics are in love with the series. A lot of the press were interested in it this year. It's a Sony exclusive coming out this fall (when they need games).

I get that it's a niche title, but it's no more niche than Media Molecules title which still has no real release date, and what was really fuckin niche/weird and didn't translate well with what they could show. It was the right time to show off Persona 5. And they didn't. And I don't get it.

I know they will save this for TGS. And I get why they normally keep games like this for TGS. But given all the factors, it made 100% sense for it to be there. Persona is at a point where it makes sense to tout it, and give it a push. I don't expect it to be a mainstream hit. But I do think it's gotten popular enough (or it at last on the cusp of it), that it just makes sense for them to heavily support it IMO. Just me tho.

I've been speculating this in past P5 threads but just throwing in my opinion why the both JP and US releases might be very close.

* Persona 5 and P4:DAN were supposed to be released in 2014
* P4:DAN was delayed because of development issues to 2015
* Releasing Persona 5 or marketing it before P4:DAN release is bad for P4:DAN marketing / sales
* It's also generally silly to release a Persona 4 spinoff after Persona 5
* Persona 5 was possibly pushed back because of this, despite it being in a pretty much finished state, to maximize sales for both titles
* This has allowed Atlus USA to work on the localization while the JP division is in QA / standby = US release close to JP
* Information explosion and release date announcements will happen after June 25th when P4:DAN releases, and Persona 4 can be left behind (for now)

Just speculation, but let's see if I'm right.

Yeah, agreed. I get the feeling that Sony likes to keep their E3 presentation very "western", but Persona is comparatively popular over here for a "niche" title, and P5, despite the Japan setting, conjures up that same type of crossover Cowboy Bebop feel which resonates so well in the West. I think they're being overly cautious.

I'm pretty sure Atlus Japan has something to do with it not being shown. I assume Sony wanted new footage and Atlus Japan said no due to the Blu-Ray coming in Japan.

Good reasoning. It makes sense not to talk about Persona 5 until Dancing is out, although I can't imagine that the Vita game will make much of a dent in North America.

So what your saying is that I should be blaming dan for not getting any p5 news? Ok, fuck dan!

More or less, lol.

Just makes sense business-wise, P5 will sell like cake either way so why not delay it a bit and have all the Persona addicts buy P4:DAN while waiting for it.
But if it was the other way, P5 would steal the spotlight completely and DAN might not return the maximum profit.

Media Molecule is a subsidiary of Sony and Sony are investing a lot of money into Media Molecule's projects. This was also how Little Big Planet was first shown and Tearaway. They are just weird, quirky but make fantastic games that translate well for kids, adults and resonate well with creative people. Gets the press talking too.

Their aim was also to tackle as many different demographics as possible. The indies, the PlayStation exclusives, the families, the comic book fans, Star Wars fans, Call of Duty fans, kids, JRPG, old school gamers, etc.

They should've shown it, maybe remove an indie or Batman but saying Media Molecule should've been kicked to the curb sounds pretty dumb.

Best wishes.

The video on that site is showing as private... was it playing earlier? New trailer?

It's probably the PV2 that's on the P4:DAN bonus disc.

I'm assuming they uploaded it in advance so they can push the emergency release button after someone gets their hands on P4:DAN before the 25th, and leaks the video. I'm sure it will happen.

October? Really? Damn. I was betting on November/December for sure. It seems so soon. Such a strange past day. How has all this stuff stayed under wraps?

Seriously? That'd be quite a scoop. Do you have a link?

It was a brief conversation during the Square E3 Conference video. Doesnt mean its real, they had just gotten word about P5 being at E3 and coming out this year, then Jeff gets a report that its coming October. That may be Japan, who knows.

Who cares? Just import
ATLUS doesn't care about EU

So we should reward the companies policy for such backwards thinking by giving them money and importing?

We should not need to import a game due to a company being lazy it not the PS or SNES era We should not be needing import games that are released in NA
