Persona 5 - Coming 2015 - PS3/PS4

Only once?

SEGA in their financials listed it as a Q4 title.

Trepidation over trailer "year"? Fair enough. SEGA saying in their financials it'll be this year? 99.9% confirms it. (for Japan)

I admit my "many delays" is hyperbolic (talks of P5 were going on since 2011 or something, so it becomes a blur for me) but fact is that financial's "forward-looking statements" are simply that; predictions that may or may not happen. They obviously try to match expectations because it's bad business not to, but it's not facts.

That's true, and Sega Sammy's financials didn't mention any release window for Persona 5. It was inferred that it would be a Q4 release if it were to release in 2015. I don't think there's any question that the Japanese release for P5 will be in 2015.

But seriously, they can't even lock in a release date yet, there's barely any information about the game, and there's 6 months to go in 2015. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that the Japanese are usually much better with release dates than Western devs and they want to push out DAN first (that's exactly what the 30% chance amounts to) but Persona 5 has already been delayed so many times that the 2015 declaration comes with some trepidation.

Also, an expected lag time for the English localisation and fall release of english DAN cast even more doubt on their 2015 plans.

If it was any other publisher I'd be as sceptical, for sure.

But since it's Atlus I'm still holding on to my theory that the JP version is basically complete, has been in localization for some time already and just waiting for DAN to release.
I don't believe they can't lock in a date, but they just won't tell it yet before the marketing gigaton hits us, it'll make a better effect that way. They just don't work like the usual big publishers do.

skeptics? they seem pretty reassured that the game will come out this year.

Yeah I see more people around that seem to think it's coming this year than those like me who are still pretty skeptical. It's just so strange to think this game is coming out in <6 months including localization with the amount of stuff we've seen. If they've really kept the entirety of the game so well hidden like that and it releases in both east and western regions this year, color me insanely impressed.

That's in line with what's been said about how much is kept secret about Persona even within the company.

We only started getting English media for Persona 4 after its announcement of a localization in July 2008, after which it was released in December 2008.

Eh, I'd say there's more of the skeptics than there are believers.

Ones like me (the believers) aren't remotely concerned by the complete lack of Persona 5 media, because we're aware of how Atlus handles their marketing, and how they'll prioritize Japan over E3.
I actually like that they're keeping a lot of the game under wraps.

So we're thinking a TGS release date reveal of November or December?

I don't see why they would reveal the release date for the game 2-3 months before the game is actually out. Atlus can be quirky when it comes to how they market their games, but they're not outright stupid.

I wonder when full marketing for this game even begins.

The road is clear in 5 days when P4:DAN is released along with the P5 bonus disc.
I'd imagine they will start dropping hype bombs right away then, starting with the Trailer #2 that's on the disc.

Atlus' "Persona 5 is coming to NA in 2015" is my Top 2 most consistent gaming statement of 2015 thus far.

Top 1 is Bandai Namco's "Tales of Zestiria is coming to PS3 only" and their following silence leak after leak
after leak and after their own website listing and dating it, etc...

BN happened to be simply salty about having to port, let's hope Atlus turns out to be telling a truth. I, for one, trust them :D

here, wasn't Persona 4 revealed in Japan in March 2008, then released in July 2008?

Not sure about you guys, but I reckon some updates through summer, then a blowout at TGS with a launch in November WW (Japan and NA T__T) is plausible.

That's when people will get their hands on that Blu-ray. Any hopes for early leaks or is japan just not the place for that?

Retailers should start getting copies before the release date, with the amount of Persona fans over there I'm sure the trailer will find it's way to the internet before Thursday.

Yep, Persona 3 and even Catherine (made by the same team) followed the same timeframe between announcement (not counting teasers without any proper info) and release.
Catherine was a bit longer, but 6 months is still short.

Persona 3

Release - July 2006

Persona 4

Catherine

Persona 5

Release - ???

So, what are the chances of this getting a cross buy feature. My sister just became a fan of the series and since I'm not using my PS3 that much It would be very awesome if she could play it there, otherwise she could always just wait after me and play it thorough Remote Play.

No chance at all. The best you might be able to hope for is that Atlus or retailer will do some sort of bundle where you can get both for $90 or so.

I'm sure it'll be perfectly playable via Remote Play since its turn based. I'm probably going to play it entirely via Remote Play.

I understand that the large amount of delayed games have made people sceptical, but considering Atlus' history with reveal timings and the constant confirmations that we have gotten that it'll release this year, I'm not worried.

I'd cry if they region lock it. But they do have a track record of it.

http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/06/atlus-explains-persona-4-arenas-region-lock-expresses-surprise/

"This is NOT the beginning of a new ATLUS policy, nor do we view it as a precedent or a slippery slope," Jabbari said. "If anything, your determination and dedication to what you believe in has certainly stood in the face of that. This is an isolated case, a situation precipitated by a number of factors, some of which are simply out of our North American hands." He admits that Atlus was "completely unprepared for the force with which the community communicated their disapproval."

They would be insane to region lock it.

I'm hoping for a TV commercial, special PSN splash screen, and a decent Web ad campaign. But it's SEGA/Atlus so I am expecting jack diddly.

This must be their biggest launch so far, and the first Persona mainline release since 2008, so I'm expecting some big bucks (or rather yen) to go into it when the marketing actually starts.
But true, with Atlus who knows what we'll get, lol.

I'm in Europe so wouldn't see anything anyway, but I'm following the Japanese release closely.

The first trailer had a sizeable number of views, I think there's enough fan demand to spark word of mouth and general buzz around whatever methods of marketing they use. I like the way Atlus does things, I think they know how to make a splash without a huge marketing/PR budget. I expect the same here.

There totally needs to be a dynamic theme for when this comes out, or at least when Atlus reveal the english trailer at Gamescom.

>_>

<_<

Whaaaat?

I hope they open up the war chest and go all out. I also wouldn't mind seeing something a little unconventional as well.

If there is a Persona 5 theme with the game it should also be bundled with the first copies and made buyable outside of that.

There will be one. Here's the P4D Vita theme that they released in Japan

https://youtu.be/nqwi0y7eR7c?t=672

There are two P4D themes, too. That one's the one people who buy the P4D Vita will get (and maybe the one included with Amazon Japan pre-orders), while the other comes with those who pre-order the digital version of the game.
