I don't really care if Persona becomes more popular or ranks as AAA. In fact, I think it could be argued that smaller budgets and working within the constraints of a smaller company/creative team is what has led to them being good and interesting. The larger that series gets, the more people they have to appeal to, the more they lose their identity. We've seen it time and again with game series. I guess that could be read as snobbish or hipster-ish, but whatever.
The people who want to play Atlus games are drawn to them, and that seems to be enough to be successful within their means.
It's unfortunate that a lot of the outward facing reputation of Persona is defined by people who should really just be playing erotic visual novels or something. It's a disservice to the source material that many of the most vocal fans are apparently mostly interested in the games for a 2D girlfriend. I sincerely hope these people are a vocal minority.
