PES 2010 announced - New Season, All New Game

While I think your complaints are valid I disagree that PES is a difficult game. Once you familiarize yourself with all of the quirks of the game you can compensate for them and often make them work to your advantage. To me PES is still a fun game but there is little doubt in my mind that FIFA has become the better representation of football.
Cheating A.I. is not fun.

The last three years were like that:

Disappointment --> Hype --> Hope --> Disappointment --> ...

Konami seriously needs to step up to beat FIFA 10 this year.

EDIT: And I really expect that PES will have more licenses. If not, they can kiss my ass goodbye.

Maybe I didn't explain myself properly. I think the game is dificult, by the wrong reasons. It's not like I'm unable to win, or anything like that. It just doesn't feel fair.

Konami should create the next Sonic game.

Just got PES2Wii yesterday. been impossible to find because no stores carry it (Norway). But that aside, loving the game - with both classic and pointer controls. Huge improvement over PES1Wii in every way. But they NEED to get their release schedules in sync. Wii-version = auto bomb with the current “strategy”. Sadly, it looks like there won't be any change in that for '10.

Competition is a good thing! Anticipating both releases in Fall, PES really needs to step it up if they want to touch FIFA because after the latest offerings I can't imagine playing anything else.

I liked FIFA 09 and I applaud EA for making such big strides with their franchise in the last couple years.

That said, PES 09 was still the best-playing footy game released last year. Can't wait to see what Seabass has cooking for this year. His chance to catch up in some of the other departments besides gameplay, imo.

easily + be a legend is best thing in football games since CM was released.

I'd like to see defensive midfielders actually being useful and no more supernatural direction changes, players in 09 can change direction 3 times in 1s -.-

Also on PS3 stop using the damn Konami ID and use the PSN! They also use the ID on Xbox?

I was hoping for something more substantial in this thread but we will probably have to wait for the Gamescom for that.

Fuck Bayern!

I played a lot of Fifa 09, it was shit, the AI was terrible, shooting was even worse. I just dont like the way EA approaches the game, even if the graphics are nice they framerate suffers and theyre so in love with their engine that (by example) they keep slowing the game by always showing you a cutscene on every sub, for instance, its annoying and they look the same, stop it. The UI is also a sore point, too many options randomly all over the place, plus the game doesnt even let you play with the d-pad, which is the way I prefer.

So nah, sorry Fifa, ill try you in '10 like I do every year but PES actually feels like soccer to me and will get the benefit of the doubt (its earned it, Fifa hasnt).

Pretty much. Still playing fifa09 regularly. I can't be bothered to go back to pes, which i still bought last year, and the year before, out of irrational loyalty to a series that used to be great. I probably will get it this year again. Even though i know there's a 99% chance it'll be the same shit all over again.
Weird how the title reads: "all new game," but the PR sounds as if they'r just going through the motions, and it'll b the same shit as last year with minor tweaks. Just let them skip a year already, they need to get it together.
I wish every sports franchise skipped a year and just did quarterly roster updates and the like, maybe occasional new-mode downloads like Ultimate Team. They could charge, say a $20 "subscription" fee for the updates and I guarantee the real new-edition sales would be much better because people would be genuinely excited for a real new game. I swear every sports developer, and certainly EA and Konami when it comes to footsie, whines about how they "just couldn't get it in this year!" regarding super-basic features and upgrades.

PES 7, PES 2008 and PES 2009 were all vastly different games. At least for us that played few hundred hours of each. I had to take PES 2009 from the office, and out of my house because 1vs1 and be a legend modes were so good this year. PES 2008 and PES 2009 especialy feel like very different games as one was arcadey and other was more sim. Not to mention be a legend mode.

I love when someone mentions PES 5/6 as their favourite still... it was good back in the time, and got me hooked on PS2, but dear god... you had to chip your PS2 and burn ISO to get updated rosters, there were 6 ways to score total, and some excrutiating bugs such as your player always kicking ball out even if you try really hard to get him running in opposite direction :lol.

I disagree, but if you're happy with that type of innovation and evoluation, Seabass has shown he is quite capable of catering to that (perhaps the only thing he's capable of doing anymore). Very much looking forward to his interviews this year about how they'll "get it right next year!"

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They feel like pretty much the same game to me. Also, the blanket statement that one needs to play a few hundred hours to see the light is kinda funny. I played the last gen iterations more than just a few hundred hours, but never needed anywhere near that long to figure out what was new and how well it worked for me.

Just to clarify one point, I do believe that when people say that, e.g., PES 4 was their favorite, they are referring to it at the time. I don't think they would actually go back and play PES4 when they have newer football games handy (generally). To me, the best at the time was PES3 (such a huge jump from PES 2 and set the groundwork for the series for the next five years and counting, as well as setting the groundwork for FIFA which very smartly ripped it off -- a point unfortunately lost on many FIFA fans) or PES5 (for the way online play was implemented, although I'll also always remember it for a ref that would blow his whistle at the slightest hint of contact).

That is all.

I remember that. It did sound like "Its not that great, but we'll do better next year, promise! So please buy the average PES this year!" :lol

Can you say this with a straight face?

Sounds much better than EA's word: "Hey, we got it right this time, I swear this time our game is better than PES".

Just like Kojima said MSG4 could have been better? I don't know how being a humble developer or rep hurts anyone, but I suppose nowadays people are all about the ones that are full of themselves, Peter Moores and such.

I completely agree that honesty is great--jokes aside, I absolutely love Seabass for his honesty (e.g., his statements that the game hasn't really evolved much recently, that he doesn't really feel comfortable with new-gen development yet, etc.). The problem is I agree with him.

he said 2 years ago that this would be the year PES actually went Next gen instead of a HD ps2 game.

I hope he was honest about that.

Well if I find you an interview of him saying that PES still is the better sim, would you agree? :P

But I think that Team Seabass problem was going multiplatform. Maybe they should do like David Rutter's team, develop PS3/360 versions and shit on the others.

BAYERN WILL BEAT BARCA TONIGHT

Lahm out
Lucio out
Van Buyten out
Klose out
Our B-Keeper in our goal....

That's it! Lahm was the only one who could stop Messi. But now..... that's it! Our B-team against Barcas A-Team? Yeah.... that's it! It's over ;-(

And that's the best thing that acutally could happen. Bayern sucks - not only the team!

just an fyi, it does let you use the Dpad.

• Strategy Use: A new power gauge system allows users to balance their strategy in a quick, but wide-ranging way before a match. Every element – pass frequency, movement, the line of defence, width of play, or the position of the front line – can be altered to match those of a favoured club: Juventus Turin are a dangerous side on the counter-attack, for instance, while FC Barcelona use width in their attack. These formulations can be altered at any point, too, with Home and Away matches forcing different circumstances on the user, as does the rigours of a Master League season.

:lol so innovative!

I've always been inclined to buy the best football game each year based on the reviews - and this year FIFA 09 won spectacularly. Its an awesome game, and if EA build on that then I think Konami are gonna have a very hard time with PES 2010 next year.

I've come to echo the disappointment that the best iteration of PES this generation, the Wii version, keeps getting released late.

in terms of the gameplay, i've had a lot more fun with Fifa 09 than any of the previous pes games. every goal feels really satisfying and i love it when my custom tactics and custom formations actually pan out.

they just need to make a couple of subtle tweaks with the buffer time, momentum of the players, and adjust some of the ball physics to be similar to Euro 08.

I agree. It boggles the mind how Konami managed to fuck up so badly that FIFA could pass them by. But all credits go to EA – FIFA 09 is the best footy game I have ever played.

I don't believe Seabass's bullshit. We'll get another PS2 up-port this year, just you watch.
I want to quote your tag, but Seabass is well known for his pre-release interview shenanigans.

Thats the damn truth. There was once I time when I would read new PES details and get hyped about it. That was 3 years ago!

I lost all interest in PES. If they create a good game I will buy it though. I think they gonna have to come with something special if they want to bear FIFA 10.

EA are not gonna stop improving. FIFA 09 was superb I expect FIFA 10 to be crazy!!

some news:

In the most recent Official PlayStation Magazine (OPM) France, they confirmed a number of details that will be included in PES 2010. Some of them were mentioned teasingly in the press release last month. The main information that we can take from the short article is that the Champions League will be integrated into the master league. Secondly, there’s also details on the ability to maneuver your players in every set piece play.

Most of the stuff just sounds like typical PR hyperbole.

The crowd reactions and chants sound great though I wonder how authentic they will be.

Also, they really need to work on the commentary.
