Peter Moore speaks of 360's PRICE DROP!

That was a great interview, and the price drop line is a classic. I like how the interviewer followed-up by asking if they have a price increase when Nintendo announces their price, and Peter conceded the point. No double standard.

Gaf flip-flops on Moore quite a bit.

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago his head was whatdog.gif-ing in that pic of him in the chair?

Don't expect a price drop for either system until 2008. There are too many blockbusters coming out Fall 2007. Sony might do something like bundle Spiderman 3 Blu Ray movie but I really doubt they want to bleed themselves into oblivion by dropping price.

If I was Microsoft, I'd cut both 360 packs by $50 this fall to put more pressure on Sony. This holiday is a critical opportunity for MS to increase its numbers toward critical mass, especially with Sony being so supply-constricted. Hit Sony hard, and why not? I'm sure a price cut was already in the plan prior to Sony's surprise price announcement. Don't take the free pass - go for the jugular.

MS will dump the Core pack and drop the premium to $299 on the day the PS3 launches.

And put a playable Halo 3 demo up on Marketplace.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurn.

How likely is a $100 price drop? It's a lot, and MS's goal this round is to not bleed money. On the other hand, a $100 drop would be a total gutpunch to Sony.

I've now decided to buy a 360 but might wait to see what MS does.

Everyone knows this already.

News flash: I don't give a shit about Blu Ray. So in your example, I'd have a PS3 for $399.

I don't think you give a shit about the ps3 so discussing the price would have been irrelevant. :p

The only difference between the Core and Premium 360 is the HD, headset, controller, and remote.

Hell, that they could do is add the HD and wireless controller to the core for $299. Then drop the Premium to $350 and just have its bonus be the headset and remote.

That thread was full of Sony and Nintendo fans. This one is full of xbox and some misguided (or should I say naive) Nintendo fans who think that Peter Moore loves them. There are also the wii60 anti-Sony fanboys (see below). Simple stuff.

Best e3 ever!

Peter Moore fucking rocks!!

Nintendo + Microsofts charasmatic PR teams shit all over the deranged, arrogant Sony ones!

Something tells me MS is sticking with the core unit for the long haul. This'll be their "icebreaker" system (maybe "pricebreaker" is a better word) that will be first to smash its way into the mass market. $250, $199, $149... all while PS3 costs hundreds of dollars more.

It may not be ideal for gamers, but it's the company's best weapon against PS3.

I'm hoping for a $50 price cut this fall, but if MS smells blood I think they could do some serious damage by slashing the system $100.

Damage to whom? You think Sony isn't gonna sell out all 6 million PS3s till March? :lol And I suppose you forget that another console that can damage 360 sales is Wii. PS3 isn't the only 360 competition you know. And if you believe that I think you owe an apology to your wii60 comrades.

:lol @ Nintendo and MS fans jumping for joy @ the mere thought of Sony fans going MS and Nintendo exclusive this gen...

Not gonna happen, IMO. The only marketshare of the two that will prob. grow this gen is Nintendo's and if anything it'll eat into MS' or coexist with the big boys. :p

2 - 3 years from now should be pretty hilarious. If PS3 succeeds on PS2 level detractors will claim they "didn't doubt Sony would steamroll/maintain" and if it's minimal on a PSP level the board will look like post-Sony press con. w/thread after thread of "I knew they would fail! huahuahua"

I stiull think PS2 will play a HUGE part in next-gen. That is Sony's bargain priced PS3 SKU, IMO.

This would work wonders... a pack in demo of Halo 3, Gears of War and Lost Planet (updated demo) for units on the floor, as well as on the marketplace. The hype alone surrounding the Halo 3 game would be immense.

Edit: ^^ Odysseus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU8nhdxX2-E&search=Xbox360 WTF LOL!
That's what I was thinking, but I don't think Bungie will do a demo ahead of time. The point of a demo is to generate interest (is sure worked for Fight Night and looks to have worked for Lost Planet) but Halo 3? Not needed.

But I sure hope it happens.

And this is because Moore recommended everyone not buy a product from their biggest competitor. Wonderful.

Ken needs to come out and tell people to buy Wii. "You want to have the only console with no tilt sensor? No, consumers will want Wii and PS3. Wii3 ftw."

He would be hoisted up and paraded through the streets.

If MS moves a shit-ton of 360s this year, that puts them closer to critical mass, and makes developers and publishers sit up and take notice. It's good for the long-term success of the platform.

As for Wii, I'm still thinking that console's primary audience, at least to start, will be the Nintendo faithful and early adopters. It'll appeal to a different segment of the market. I liked somebody else's analogy that PS3 and 360 are like juicy steak dinners to Wii's refreshing ice cream dessert.

You know what? I put a Game down saying that PS3 will not sell 6 million units by March.

You are CRAZY if you think by march Sony will have sold 6 million Ps3 sold, i can totally see them sell say, 2/3 millions in the holyday, but after it? Its gonna slowdown a ton. Why? You have 2 competitors with "better" prices and very possibly better software, and all the hardcore/enthusiasts that wanted to get a 600$/500$ Ps3 no matter what, did it on the holydays. The people that easilly spend that kind of cash on a videogame system will do it at 1st.

You are underestimatting GREATLY the importance of price, GREATLY, if you think by march Sony will have sold those systems. Sony is gonna have a tough fight even in japan this time around with Wii.

I think certain people are in for a rude awakening, one does not simply spend such cash in a console. Rude awakening, and i'm betting right now, 1 game any console you wanT!

Unfortunately, I don't think you have any concept of economics. If you actually believe that there are 6 million people out there who are willing to spend $600 on a game system, then I honestly don't know what to say.

You know, I make pretty decent coin. In fact, I'm willing to bet that I earn quite a bit more than average joe. But I'll never, EVER drop more than half a grand on a toy... and I'll guarantee you that I represent the majority of consumers.

I get the impression that Sony could have announced a launch price of three thousand dollars, and you'd still be standing outside of Best Buy in the pouring rain to pick one up. Knock yourself out. :)

OK bookmark my post because I'm definately bookmarking yours. PS3 will definately sell 6 million units by the end of March (unless they don't ship that many).

Also *and this is pure speculation that I'm not sure about* in spring when Cell goes to 65mm process there will probably be a price drop and PS3 will continue selling out.

PS. You owe an apology to the Wii60 squad. You traitor.

Peter Moore is hilarious. :lol

Nintendo doesn't even have to market the Wii. Microsoft and Sony will do it for them. :lol

I know $600 is expensive, but so is $500 and $400. Do some of you actually think the 100+ million PS2 owners are going to suddenly jump ship and pick up another console for $100 less with no games they want to play and broken backwards compatibility?

Halo 3, Blue Dragan, Mass Effect, Gears of War, EA Sports, Forza 2 with wireless Logitech wheel, XBOX Live, XBOX Live Arcade, Grand Theft Auto 4, Ninja Gaiden 2, Ubisoft's killer franchises, with a cheaper price, high-def-support, Fable 2, and a bevy of other games. Yes, they will.

And if I want to playe P$2 games, I will play with them on my P$2.

my god! Peter Moore gets better every fucking day. he alleviates all the pain of my life. :lol

sorry, late to the Peter Moore party. I showed up for the Dreamcast preparty but this is the real deal.

Which are Wii and PS2!

Ahaha very funny. People...let's not underestimate the power of the 360 tard package, and a possible price cut. 500/600 is alot more than 300/400, and it will even be more brutal if suddenlly it is 500/600 vs 350/250.

Rude awakening, thats all i'm sayin, i made my bet, i'm out, i've said all i had to say, nothing more to contribute to this thread.

True, PS2 is still a factor. Sony could lower the price to $99 and start a feeding frenzy.

If I'm MS, maybe now I do slash both 360 packs by $100 this fall. With PS3 supply constrained and selling out to all the early adopters and videophiles, PS2 is the main competition this year, because it's competing for the casuals MS needs fast.

The next-gen consoles are kind of in a quandary because most of these casuals really can't take full benefit from them since they're still playing on SDTVs.

I think this is the very reason we did not get an announcement from Nintendo on the Wii's price at E3. After Sony attempting to copy the controller, I guess they feel its best to wait on announcing their price. MS may drop their price, if they feel it would be effective to combat Nintendo.

Shit man, Moore is totally owning sony in that video!

*Space ghost tells Moore his game idea*

"No, Go see the guys at Sony they've got that fucking controller thing " *shakes hand* "and that sounds like a lot more creativity than they're doing over there right now!"

We're having this discussion in the GC Flashback thread. What it all comes down to is game development, both the PS3 and 360 is forcing devs to put in alot of money or else they risk their game not even getting noticed on the system, the other risk is that even if they're noticed it doesn't meant hey're going to sell. If the Rev is a success (as in it winning) then Sony and MS are going to start shaking. Because again, it represents everything they arne't.

360 has atleast 3 third party 1 million sellers so far.... and its still early in the console's life... With the gamecube, for the most part, only 1st party games sold... which cause 3rd party to not develope for it.. 3rd parties never struggled on the ps2 and xbox, like it did on the gamecube.. but that reason... there will be no shaking.. well atleast in the MS camp... :lol

I agree with this post. Core system is here to stay.

sony's lucky allard's not dealing with the press this year. he'd be spinning some crazy shit left and right.
