Phil Spencer discusses the new Xbox One S

100% In for the drive and built in power brick. I mount my system on a wall so this will be great. I use external hdd so will go with 500gb. I will also buy a 4k tv now. And will buy the Scorpio next year... why not

Is it really? I don't see a lot of people talk about this :/

I work in a video game store and the problem with watching Blurays and DVDs (back in the days) on your console is that it will kill your lens 3x faster than playing games because of the way that games only read the disk during loading times and put the data in the ram. On the other hand, the lens is constantly working when watching a movie.
It's still cheaper than buying a good UHD BR drive though.

My ps3 lasted 8 years playing games and movies. It still worked just fine when I traded it in.

Have the dimensions been released other than "40% smaller?" Interested to know if it's smaller than the current PS4.

Well it seems from this thread, Phil is winning. People aren't talking about not getting anything...but getting something that in the end, MS will get money. Interesting.

It's somewhat strange to me that some people think that Apple invented the letters "S" and "i".

No dimensions have been released. But we can safely say that it's wider and higher than the PS4 but less deep.

Serious question. How much better does a 4K TV look over a 1080p? Don't ask me how, but I've never actually seen 4K content. Unless you have a super large screen, I find it hard to believe it'd be much different. I'm not saying there is no difference, only that it's not drastic enough to make new major purchases in order to see it. Right now I have zero interest in getting a 4K TV.

It doesn't matter. People will buy 4K because it's ubiquitous and not a hard sell. People will buy stuff to support it because they have it. People will tell themselves they see a difference with 4K, too.

For someone who works and doesn't own an Xbox One yet, 300 is a very reasonable price!

True, but for a little more you could get a PS4, or if you have one already and are jonesing to get on the VR bandwagon there's PSVR.

Not saying this to be snarky, just to point out alternative options that some folks who aren't already onboard with either platform holder have to consider. Which is kinda a big deal as you don't grow your market-share by appealing to the same people you've already locked in.

This system is good for people like me who never got the xbox one. The S might be good to jump in since Scorpio will not be out until more than a year from now. This might help in between.

Pretty damned ugly if you ask me. Maybe if I saw a Forza themed one with burnt orange carbon fiber top/face, black bottom and white racing stripe along the top. No... On second thought It would still be ugly.

/me hugs OG Xbox One brick-o-future

Still seen a few people grumbling about having to use the Windows store but if that's a reason someone would use for not getting a game. I'd find it very hard to believe that person actually wanted to play it in the first place.

Looks pretty small to me...

Haha that graphic they used in the reveal was juuuust a tad misleading.

Still, looks much smaller and sexy.

It's $299, and a PC would be double that at least. Also if you are coming from a 360 the BC could be attractive. Likewise if you have a 4K TV and want to get access to content through Netflix or UHD bluray
Don't most 4K tvOS already have native Netflix apps?

I'm not getting that S sadly. Just gonna wait out Scorpio (possibly) and enjoy my OG. It's gorgeous though.

I tend to buy my multiplats on ps4, so the longer it takes for one to come out, the more invested I get monetarily into Sony, just gotta wait and see, I guess.

Barely anything outside of those promotions. Currently like $80 at GameStop.

I thought you wanted to get it if the Swas $299.

I do, but damn, I was hoping they'd release that bad boy a little sooner. Gives me more time to consider, but I'm honestly kidding myself. I'll probably end up getting it as soon as that launch date hits. It really is a lovely piece of hardware. I told my wife I was waiting and she chuckled, she knows me better than I do.

I'd trade in my current One, but I use it and the power brick as a weight to get myself bulked up.

Ha! It isn't so bad.

Depending on what Sony announce later, I'm tempted to get an Xbox S just for the UHD drive because that is a great price for a UHD blu-ray player.

the S seems like the console they should have made three years ago.
I would like to see some graphics heavy games on Scorpio but most likely we will just see PS4 like games with 4k if its possible, I don't see anytime soon developers making prettier games for a smaller user base. MS should push that but considering how much they are reducing their investment in game development, that seems unlikely to happen.

Odd they would go with white. Also, you would think it would look smaller and better in person....not really.

?

the white is fuggin SEGSY.

glad they made it the standard, xbox 360 was great in white, waited for a white xbone before i jumped in - aaaaand i'll probably sell it and replace it with the S.

haven't watched the video in the OP yet [waiting for the Sony conference don't wanna miss it], but is there any mention of outputs?

curious whether this will plug into my display port monitor or not :/

Same, can't stand this guy tbh.
Haha you sound threatened. And MS have been using 'S' since OG Xbox days so anyone trying to make reference to apple should do their homework.

Phill has completely changed Xbox and brought it back to gaming, his Xbox's are all about the gamer, love this guy.

The price of joining the family is an affordable one with Xbox S , which IMO is the reason they were cool with announcing Scorpio, which I expect to be quite expensive but will co-exist.

Good buy if you mostly want it for the uhd Blu ray and media features. Scorpio will likely be quite expensive too.

This is how I think of it. I'm not gonna waste one entire year of time not being able to play Gears 4 and Forza Horizon 3, no way, I wanna be in the hype when those games launch. Life is short.

Im very interested how games in 1080p or less will take advantave of hdr.

Cant wait to see the 500g become avail! Hopefully i can preorder it before the end of june at bestbuy. I have some rewards to use hehe

Dissapointed about the price. 399$ for the 2TB is too much I think. 349$ for the 1TB too, considering the differences of sales with the PS4, I thought that MS would be more agressive on the price.

They are. $299 for a 500GB model. That extra hundred you can use to buy a 2tb external drive and BOOM! 2.5tb Xbox One S.
