Its pretty obvious. They're not dropping 7 billion on the acquisition to just continue putting the games on other platforms. If you think this is just for some timed exclusive content, i don't know what else to say lol

He probably won't say anything since there are some games like death loop and the the other coming to Playstation. And considering how toxic those fanboys are, they don't want people boycotting those games.

The laughing emojis are funny especially coming from the people who've already had meltdowns on the matter lol.

It would be nice to have Spider Man or Horizon Zero Dawn or God of War on Xbox too, but we understand why that isn't happening. Wanting Xbox IP on Playstation won't happen either.
Lolol

Like any of Bethesda current games are Xbox ip.

I understand the need, but it's just money-grubbing exclusives. Nothing more.

Just on Xbox and PC will be fine ... it is exactly what the fanboys wanted when they say “ lol where are the Xbox exclusives!? “ ... right ??

Interested to know how MS intends to make the money they spent back considering their hardware is, historically, the poorest selling on the market with the lowest attach rate and by their own admission, Gamepass is pretty poor at making back money leaving them only PC sales or just going full on GAAS to the extreme. Reason Minecraft isn't exclusive is that they paid so much, they would lose too much money not making it multiplat, this is looking like a similar case.
The 360 had the highest attach rate of pretty much any console in history actually.

Game pass will never make a profit by itself, but it’s not supposed to. It’s there to get people in to the ecosystem, and those people then buy their games on Xbox and buy their fortnite v bucks on Xbox and buy their Xbox controllers etc. That’s where the profit comes in to it, not on the subscription. Game pass is not meant to make a profit by itself. It’s guaranteed revenue and an ecosystem lock in.

The reason Minecraft isn’t exclusive is two fold. 1. It was already multiplatform before MS bought it. 2. It’s literally the biggest game franchise of all time, it’s an extreme outlier. It is not an example of anything, it’s the exception to the rule.

Lolol

In a few months they will all be MS IPs. That’s what happens when they buy the company that owns the IPs lol. You do know they’re buying zenimax don’t you?

Microsoft should make it clear at some point so that the warriors can decide between "All Zenimax games are utter crap, we didn't want to play them anyways" and "Lol, Microsoft has no exclusives. Looking forward to play all the great Zenimax games on my PS5".

They will, when they’re legally allowed to. Unfortunately it means we’re gonna have the same old Sony boys telling everyone they’re still getting zenimax games on Ps5 for another few months. The meltdowns when the buyout is official will be glorious though.

Nothing of Bethesda is an Xbox ip. Just ips they bought. Over the next year these games are still coming to your most hated rival, some exclusively lol.

Elder Scrolls 6 is really the only Bethesda game I simply cannot live without. But I doubt it will come to the PS5. Microsoft would be stupid to release it on sonys platform. My strategy is: wait until it actually releases (probably still 4 - 5 years away) and then play it on a used xbox or build a new pc to play that game. In 5 years used xbox series x consoles should be dirt cheap on ebay.

i don't see the point in spending $7.5 billion and continue to release games on Playstation.

they bought Zenimax so they could/should make all the games Xbox exclusive and release on PC as normal.

When a company owns an IP they can dictate what happens to it. Whether it's home grown out not is irrelevant.

Your comment makes no sense. Are you trying to say that only IPs they've made themselves can be exclusive?

Edit: Changed can't to can. I have fat fingers.

Say 3+ million people do want to play Elder Scrolls, and they all sign up to GP like 15 million people already have.
Ok, say 3 million people pay a yearly sub of 60 for GP when ES6 comes out. That's 180 million in instant money coming in. Now say a month after that Gears 7 comes out on GP and those same 3 million want to play it. Well damn, that's suddenly 0 in extra revenue from those same people because they already have access to the service.

Now say Sony releases TLOU2 and it sells 3 million at 60 each copy. A month later they release Ghost and it also sells 3 million at 60 each copy. When Sony just made 360 million. You're right, it really doesn't take a genius to understand which model brings in the most revenue.

It turns out that selling each piece of fruit, one item at a time brings in more money than selling open access to the whole fruit shop for the price of a single apple.

That and people like yourself tend to forget that the game can be bought standalone outside of GP for those that want to, and comes with a 10% price reduction for being subbed to GP.
Yeah, and GP is already hurting physical sales massively. Turns out when you can buy access to a whole library of games for the price of a game, people are less interested in buying said game stand alone. Shocking, I know.

The whole "Netflix of gaming" thing is pretty funny when you actually look at how Netflix is doing. If MS wants to go down that road then more power to them, a race to the bottom is definitely easier to win that one to the top, after all.

We keep seeing your attempt at convincing people repeated, but if the purchase will not complete until next year, and Starfield, for example, is next year as rumoured, the PS4/PS5 build is a long way into development. As a result there might be stipulations from current owner/shareholders that this game is released on all platforms as part of the sale. Deathloop is obviously still timed PS5 exclusive. Anything outside of those is probably only PC/Xbox if it is further away.

I think the correct decision here would be to create a mid/high end PC for this. Yes its more exspensive but you get the benefits of being able to play a scantily clad bimbo whos ass has so much jiggle physics it puts dead or alive to shame, or unique community made companions who happen to be scantily clad bimbo's or perhaps take advantage of unique custom quest lines where you find a lost city of scantily clad bimbo's.

There are literally hundered of thousands of mods that help you exsperience the titles in the way the developers intended, as a scantily clad bimbo, however they are exclusive to PC sadly.

Nah, just pointing out they are not "Xbox ips" and it's yet to be seen what is exclusive or not.

The fact is over the next year several Bethesda games will continue to come to PlayStation, some exclusively, and after that in two or three years we will have to wait and see what exactly becomes exclusive to Xbox if anything.

We'll look forward to that Greg.

I think you are getting confused with terminology. You mean to say they are not Xbox 1st party IP's then... like Gears of War, etc...

But they will be Xbox IP's by definition to do as they see fit.

Oh yeah, getting it on PC is definitely an option. But xbox does support a lot of mods, doesn't it? I remember that the PS4 version of skyrim was pretty restricted in terms of what mods could achieve and what not, but xbox was way more open to mods. Not compareable to the PC of course, but still quite good.

As I said, I play wait and see right now. It would be phenomenal if Microsoft decides to give Sony the next Elder Scrolls title, but I think this is just super unlikely. Elder Scrolls is definitely a killer IP and could sell a lot of xboxes. I'm getting a PS5 now, play the Sony/3rd Party stuff that comes out in 2021 and beyond and once the gods have mercy and grace me with the next Elder Scrolls, I'm sure I will find a way to play it.

True, but I would wait ~3 years to allow modders to change the game from being completely broken on PC to be mostly working but still kinda broken on PC.
The last decade and half of Bethesda releases has not been encouraging.

Convincing people? I've barely posted on this matter. You're speaking off assumptions and trying to pass em off as facts. Common sense, 7 billion for them to continue leaving games on other platforms?

Sure if there is a Ps4/Ps5 version maybe but they've only mentioned honoring death loop and the other game's deals. And its been said these negotiations been ongoing since 2018. It didn't just happen overnight.

Would be a hilarious self own to buy the Skyrim company for billions so you can sell less copies of the follow up.

Tell me, Xbox fans, why you think they would turn away tens of millions of additional sales. Y’all really think they want to cut that Skyrim number in half? Just throw away tens of millions of guaranteed sales? LOL Why? Think the stock holders want that to happen?

My company just made a similar transition and I can confirm that what Spencer say is true. Its illegal for the execs and employees in these companies to even discuss internal matters while the process is going on. They are required to operate as separate entities until the acquisition is officially done. Even after it was made official we were not allowed to talk to our new colleagues as anything other than competitors until a specific date. This is no trivial matter, it is regulated by law.

As he said, it’s illegal to do so and he’d get in major shit for it.

That tinfoil hat of yours isn’t working.

Thanks for the feedback. Time to take off that tinfoil hat.

But I still insist on MS knowing exactly what they'll do with the IPs and having a strategy, obviously. And him avoiding to answer the question.

Same here, the intention to acquire our company was officially announced back in April and it was legally completed in June, they couldn't share any details or take any decision until it was completed

You're conveniently assuming that the same 3 million customers buy every game and that, therefore, the market is 3 million in total.

That's clearly nonsense.

ES6 would bring in one set of customers and Gears 7 another set, there's some overlap, sure, but it's not the exact same people. The more games you have, the more 'sets' of customers you bring into the service. If there's a steady supply of games a lot of them will stay and your subscription base grows cumulatively.

I suspect that, just like Xbox Live, nearly all Xbox gamers will subscribe.

Once you get to 10 million subscribers you're talking 600 million dollars a year, 50 million subs = 3 billion dollars a year.

Btw, 12 months of GP is actually about $120 a year. At that rate they would be generating 6 billion dollars a year in revenue, more than Playstation did in 2020.

If you leak those exclusive titles to Playstation you severely undercut your own value and the value of the subscription.

They won't do that.

Ok, say 3 million people pay a yearly sub of 60 for GP when ES6 comes out.

Last time I checked they had 15 mln subscribers with an aim to quadruple the no.

Biggest reason why you see GAAS / early access models is cash flow.

Say a company decided to make a AAA game that will take 6yrs to make and will cost 100mln usd. Company got cash strapped 4 yrs in development (happens, its business). Now they have about 50-60mln invested in game and no cash inflow untill 2 more years. What to do? Just launch early access or turn it to GAAS model if it's multiplayer.

This issue gets solved with gamepass as MS and other participating companies get a fixed income each month with gamepass.

Its success pretty much depends on no of subscribers I think. I don't think MS is worried about 7.5 billion they spent but more about how to turn gamepass into sustainable business.

Theres viable strategies for both options (exclusive or not exclusive) it's pointless arguing what is going to happen. Let Microsoft decide.

Also I'd give Playstation fans some understanding. Comparing exclusives of God of War, Horizon etc isnt like for like at all. Many of the acquired franchises are both beloved and have a long history of been multiplatform. If Xbox owners woke up tomorrow and found out some of their favorite franchises would they would no longer have access to without paying hundreds of pounds/dollars I'd hope Playstation fans would show restraint as well.

I remember how painful it was when Microsoft bought Rise of the Tomb Riader exclusivity after it had been announced on PS4. Likewise Microsoft fans surely remember the sting of losing Street Fighter/Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

No one should really be happy about company's making multiplatform franchies exclusive, unless a) your a Gamepass subscriber b) the franchise would of been dead otherwise.

So what he is saying is he cannot answer because they don't own the company yet and can't see which games currently are bound by contractual agreement to release on other consoles...

On the other hand he's not saying "no" which would be well within his rights even when not owning, if he was not going to make the decision to make games exclusive this would be easy to say as the only reason they wouldent is if he decided they are not.

So the correct answer will be "I dont know, however all future releases not contractually agreed will be exclusive to Xbox"
Probably another blog post after the purchase has completed(or maybe Evangelion Unit-01 Evangelion Unit-01 can clarify better).
Yeah, it isn't his place to start talking about strategy until they actually take over the operations when the acquisition has completed.

I think it is safe to say that everything outside of ESO and Fallout 76 will be exclusive. I suggested previously that they could release Fallout/Elder Scrolls on PS5 12+ months later if they really wanted to try to squeeze every last sale out of the games but I don't see a compelling reason to do that.

Whilst I'm sure devs are happy more eyes are on their games, you're just throwing out conjecture and not backing up anything you actually claim. Again, MS themselves have actually said GP isn't pulling in good money. Your hopes & prayers that they'll manage to gain enough users to actually off-put people literally no longer paying them per game is cute. maybe one day they'll achieve 192 million subs like Netflix who... Oh, even with that, they're barely managing a return on the amount they spend on content and that with subs costing up to 180 a year, way more expensive than GP. Whoops.

But hey, I'm sure MS will find the magic bullet to get by with way fewer subs than Netflix, on subs that cost less than Netflix, with content that costs more to produce than movies. Hopes & prayers, hopes & prayers.

As for being hired by MS. Nah. Their financial experts seem like they have a dirty job on their hands, what with all that grave digging for Windows Phone, Zune, Mixer, Gamepass (oh, getting ahead of myself there!).

Doom, Skyrim, Elder scrolls, Quake, etc are massive IPs. It doesn’t matter who created them, Microsoft/Xbox own them when this buyout is complete. They’re then Xbox IPs. You can cry about it all you want, but they’re then Xbox IPs and won’t be coming to your beloved PlayStation.

Its real simple, if sony or nintendo want Bethesda games after the acquisition is finalized, then they will need to allow gamepass (streaming) on their platforms. Otherwise, get an xbox.

Can people just stop talking. About this nonsense. Y'all are obcessed with it. They paid 7 billion for exclusives. Playstation fanboys need to shut up, stop crying and deal with it or tell sony to make all the studios there acquired over time available on other platforms. Seriously if I was Phil I'd just not answer anything related to the deal.

The thing is that Xbox doesn't sell games anymore, and they don't sell all that many consoles either. They sell subscriptions. Everything Microsoft Game Studios publishes goes right onto Game Pass.

Skyrim has sold tens of millions of copies. Made them over a billion in profit. They wanted it on every possible console they could. To switch to an exclusive model would be a huge change.

I think it's up in the air. On one hand, exclusivity of TES would move Xboxes. On the other, they would surely make a lot more money overall if they allowed the game to be in other places.

He could, if he chose, say that MS studios will not release on PS unless contractually obligated. There's 110 miles between starting to run their company pre-purchase, and a concise statement about MS general intent for any studios it owns. But Phil is playing it smart. He's letting brand loyalists push a message that sells consoles, while he avoids putting MS in the position of making brand loyalists feel betrayed if MS chases the almighty dollars associated with a market share double the size of MS current share.

This post makes no sense. You are blubbering about subscriptions while claiming MS is interested in the peanuts they will make by publishing on PS5.

If this is true, why isn't Halo on PS5? or Hellblade 2? or Fable?

Fact is, they said they will honor existing contracts. The rest is case by case. This alone means there will be exclusives. Be it one or two.

Why on earth would they drive people even deeper into PSN? They literally have to pay Sony 30% for every single sale. On top of that, the people won't ever consider getting into the subscription service you love to mention.

This is what he said a few weeks ago about more Switch ports:
Where does that leave the prospect of more Xbox games coming to non-Xbox consoles? Spencer told me that “it doesn’t feel sustainable” to consider Xbox games on a case by case basis for Switch and said, “In order to really support it, I would want a full Xbox ecosystem somewhere. And that probably means things like Live and Game Pass and stuff.”

You think Sony is going to agree to that? They want people in their own ecosystem. They want the full 100% cut while driving people into their own store so they get that sweet 30% from every game, DLC and movie bought.

This is what Spencer keeps harping about when he says "We want everyone to play our games"

Xbox + PC + Mobile. If your platform allows Xbox Live + Gamepass, you will get their games.
