Phil Spencer: xCloud team is working on PC/console streaming

You can already stream your home Xbox to your Win10 PC (and if your Xbox is hard wired it's 1080p).

This would be for the xCloud Game Pass streaming like on Android devices.

I have no doubt that streaming from the cloud to your console has been on the to do list from day -1. It fits perfectly with game pass and having an "instant library".

Big for low-cost/non-gaming PC owners. Pick up a controller and play real games.

Likewise, if Microsoft can introduce a third Xbox, solely meant for streaming, and ultra-affordable, that could do well. Others have tried, but I feel like Xcloud/GamePass are in a better place.

I don't get it. Isn't this what Xcloud is?

xcloud is for android for now -and eventually iOS-. What P. Spencer is referring to here is the ability to select a game in the store/gamepass and play it right away without having to wait for installation.

Probably the only kind of streaming i would be interested in, using it to test games before deciding if i want to download them.

It is a bit disappointing how long it is taking to finish the Windows and Xbox version of Xcloud.

Furthermore, they already have an Android app, they need to expedite its release on Android TV. It already works sideloaded on at least some devices.

In addition, I also think that they should make an Xbox 360 version. There are plenty of those still around, they still work wonderfully on Xbox Live, they are plenty powerful enough for streaming, and many are owned by gamers who might have skipped the Xbox One generation.

In all of these cases, sooner is better. They really should have had them ready to go, including the Xbox Series X based servers by launch.

They need to work on browser based streaming of PC and Xbox games. Being able to play full blown PC sim and strategy games with kb/m on a notebook is a gamechanger.

Would be amazing to start playing a game, if you like it install it, but keep streaming until it's installed. Save, and open on your console. You never have to wait to start gaming something new

I wonder how much better the latency for Gamepass will be with a wired connection vs Wifi and cellphone internet.

I have no discernible lag on GE Force Now on a wired connection so probably better than it is now because on Android I can def feel a little lag on Xcloud.

xCloud basically has Xbox One (S) Hardware behind. They already announced Xbox Series X Hardware for xCloud 2021. Makes sense to wait with announcement of PC and Console streaming until they have the infrastructure to claim bold 4k/60fps streaming. There is no point to announce a service inferior to Amazon and Google ones.

That'd be freaking awesome. I'd also love to be able to use my Xbox as a steam link, but who knows when/if that'll happen.

Can you freaking imagine?

I read this and was hoping it would be streaming from my PC to my Xbox but that's not how it sounds. Let me do it Microsoft. Gaming PC to gaming console.

I am sure this would be for Gamepass games only but imagine a world where you can stream the new Horizon game from PC to your Xbox console.

I dont think it worth the effort to make it work on browser.
MS could just create clients for Windows, Mac and even Linux.

Why bother if you can make a PWA? It would also allow them to get on iOS, like I think Amazon are doing with Luna.

It's odd to me that xCloud has gotten the praise that it has if it can't be used directly on the XSX or XSS.

What's the point when you can just download and play the game locally?
Immediacy. No downloading.

But yes that's why they started with mobile, mobile has the biggest benefit and you can start small. And why I don't understand this thread, or the people saying 'I knew they'd do this'. This is exactly what xCloud is, I don't know what those people thought it is if they didn't think this would be part of it...

Yes I understand that. I figure it's why they went with mobile first. It expands the customer base. With that launched, they will continually expand to as many platforms as possible. Good strategy.

I played MCC:Halo 3 multiplayer in my bed on my phone a few nights ago. It played incredibly well and was pretty wild TBH, haha.

So this is the way you get to play Gears 3 on PC. Nice. Don't know why it's taking them so long though. People spotted Phil Spencer using the XCloud Windows client on his gamer profile some time ago.

Pretty sure that's the long game plan for the S.

OT: so games like MFS, Gears tactics and AOE3 would be accession xbox via xcloud before thier release?

Why haven't they branded their streaming service or is it really going to be called xCloud? They should have started with a native client for both Xbox/PC. I mean, Sony has one with the PlayStation Now (Sony should try to be present in the mobile space I guess.) Anyhow, I am surprised they haven't named it yet or maybe they will just roll it under Xbox Game Pass.

They aren't going to brand it except for 'cloud gaming for xbox game pass' but yeah, they need to get the browser based app out soon for pc, i think the pc native 'app' will just be bundle into the xbox app..
