For a little over a month, I've been working on this blog where I post underrepresented music nearly every day from a bunch of different genres, I try to mix it up a lot. It's been really fun so far. You might want to check it out. If not, that's cool too.

Also, a good amount of music that I listen to I find here on GAF. GAF is like a cultural goldmine!

My gaming blog with a staff. We don't try to be the biggest and best thing, but just something for ourselves and to get our opinions out there. We also want to have published work we can reference if we want to work for the more established outlets.

You know what, your site is awesome. Chinese Man - I've got that tune is great and having the play list play automatically after selecting a song it's great. I'm listening to it and playing Minecraft.

Huh, seems I haven't posted in this thread.

Anyway, here's my site:

http://alphanovus.org/

It focuses on politics, technology, and economics. At first, I was just gonna report some interesting news items, and just make some comments, but even that's been kinda troublesome with my schedule.

But one area I've been focusing on (and actually updating pretty frequently interestingly enough!) is the Daily Pundit collection. It's basically an opinion/editorial aggregator from all over the interwebs. I link to both big name sites and many lesser known ones. I like to read opinion pieces from several sources every day, and I thought this may help others who do the same thing but don't wanna bother searching and shit.

http://alphanovus.org/?cat=11

It's fairly clean and uncluttered. I'm debating the idea of just simply turning my whole blog into a opinion piece/editorial aggregator as its primary focus.

Also, I hate my site's name. My idiot friend chose it since we were supposed to be doing this together but he bailed after I bought the domain name. So if anyone has any suggestions on any catchier names, feel free to recommend!

And feel free to comment on my site in general. All suggestions and criticisms welcome!

Hey man thanks so much! Really appreciate it. Yeah that's a hell of a tune, have you had a chance to see the video? It's pretty great as well.

Well, for as long as I've been lurking Gaf I think I popped into this thread once, and even that may be an overestimate.

Saw it bumped, clicked on it, saw the recommendation of your site above and gave it a shot.

Nice, I dig it. Added to my favorites.

For a long time I wanted to create a comic but my drawing skills suck - and someone pointed out that most online comics are drawn 'badly' so I bit the bullet and created mine a couple of days ago -

I hope I'm not the only one who likes it :D

I've got another more serious idea (involving demons :) which I'll keep until I find a proper artist to do that for me -

Hey man thanks so much. For the past few months, it's been hard to get motivated to update the site as there's little to no audience, but the feedback you've posted and others in this thread are really motivating me to keep it going. Thanks!

Dramatic DDT

A blog that keeps up to date with a Japanese wrestling promotion called Dramatic Dream Team, aka DDT. Featuring such wrestlers as Kota Ibushi, Kenny Omega and Danshoku Dino, who I think some of you may be familiar with in regards to a certain sleazy wrestling gif that has been posted on this board several times in the past.

wordpress or blogspot for a blog?
wordpress has more features and modifiability.
I have both and while wordpress is a bit complicated coming from blogspot it's much nicer. If you ever want to change your domain name and get a .com , wordpress allows U to shift all your content over.

I'll take that, heh ;) Cheers, yeah, it's a cracking theme. Quite a recent one, I think.

Try making a first post on both and see which one you like the feel and look of best!

Lol I hope U didn't take it as "the theme is great but the rest sucks", it was just the first thing I saw and I liked it.
I quite like your writing though (your 1st post went WAY over my head, I don't know the game at all) and I like the tl;dr-ish conclusions to the posts.

Haha, not at all. I appreciate you taking the trouble; at this early stage I'm still finding my writing feet
(Writing feet? Hideous and wrong...)
, so it's good to hear you quite enjoyed it. Encouragement!

Thanks for the advice and kind words. I'm a bit stumped though -- do you know of any free or cheap ways of advertising a music blog?

Actually I didn't mean that as in place an ad - I meant talk about it on whatever forums U're on, or websites, w/ your friends, twitter, stuff like - maybe get a tumblr. For a music blog that might be best since if one person likes it or reblogs it, all their followers see it and maybe they'll end up looking for the source and ending up on your blog.

Basically spam your blog lol (but in a less spammy way)

Try stumbleupon. You have to pay, but it's like 5.00 per 100 visitors. I started my musicblog June 1st. Somewhat different from yours, but a similar idea. I'd post it, but I'm worried about the fact that I have affialiate links on it. Don't want to get banned from GAF even though the purpose of this thread is to show off your blog.

I have 2 blogs. One that I've been writing for 4 years now - dotMemories. It's about movies/books/anime/games etc., various topics included.
The second one is a part of the Gameplay.pl website, which is a "blog" part of the Gry-Online site - Link.

Both are Polish only, so I guess not many here will understand a word. :<

I hope, in the reasonably short-term, to start producing something more of a research blog, centred on 18th and 20th century literary and scholarly culture, but I decided to preliminarily cast a diary from this year's Oxford Literary Festival out upon the waters of the internet. I hope to nudge my motives for publication from the strictly egotistical into more noble fields, but there you go.

Really enjoyed reading that, Salazar. A lavish, unrepentantly pompous (in the finest, most glorious way) travelogue. Certainly beating Theroux at his own game for descriptive scrutiny on the road. Dig your style immensely.

---

May as well cast my two particular blogs out there as well. Both are due to receive some different banners/graphical overhauls when I can get the time to ink and colour them, but for the most part, I like to handcraft a few scribbles to compliment one or form the basis for each post on the other.

NGAAT is a scattershot affair where I throw together any sort of geekery and parenting anecdote, usually a mix of meshing photos of my young daughter with nerdy things like Starwars or a Falklands War-themed affair, game musings, TV shows and all that.

Hostile Universe is a pure art blog. It's simply a concerted effort to do something with my scribbling when not being put into education prop/card creation/supplementary purposes. Nothing serious, just bright and colourful sci-fi fun.

EDIT: Hell, I forgot one more, a hard sci-fi narrative collaboration between myself and a good friend.

Orbital Shipyards channels authors like Kim Stanley Robinson and Stephen Baxter, about a high-spirited step-by-step colonisation of Alpha Centauri. We try to stick to true science in each post, though we're both super geeks, so there is more than a little bit of fanciful engineering thrown in. We're both quite busy, so it gets updated as much as possible...which can leave a month or two between posts. Still, a lot of content to read if you start from the beginning! The artwork began quite rough, but we've stuck to a monochromatic palette and it kinda fits. Enjoy.

Np. I originally had come to the thread to post about my blog but decided to first click on all the blogs in the current page just to see what other people were doing. One thing I would look for was frequency in posting to see if they were consistent or not. I think once a week or more would be enough to consider it an active site.

Anyways, I liked yours primarily because of the playlist. If i had to click on each song individually I don't think I would have stuck around. But by having a playlist I could just leave it in the background and hear all kinds of great new music.

I did see the video for it, it was one of the first things that caught my attention. Well keep it up.

Well as for my site, here it is:
http://loadsave.wonderhowto.com

It's a site on games, and it's been on consistently enough that it has built up a good amount of material.

Around a year ago a friend got a job at that website and they were starting a blogging community. She asked me to write about games since I was always saying that I could but never did. In the beginning it was depressing on how I would spend hours on a piece and get only 10 or so views for my work. I kept writing about various things and started to find what worked for my site and what didn't through trial and error. For that I am grateful for the site.

Currently it's a mixed bag. Some pieces get thousands of views (you can check previous articles in the blog tab and they list the # of views there), and then some just get like 20 or 30 views, but the effort to put those pieces together are just the same. I find that the light, comedy pieces do well (like the minecraft write ups), but the reviews not as much (probably because it's too old by the time they come out).

Anyways, please take a look at the site, and thanks.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I'm loving wordpress a lot over blogspot. Now to start a real blog. :) Its something I've been wanting to do for a long time and this thread really got me into finally doing it.

I'll definitely look into this. I was trying to give away amazon mp3 credit to get a few followers, but that hasn't really worked so far. This seems like a much better bang for the buck, thanks.
Also if you don't mind, could you PM me the link to your music blog? I'm curious and interested in affiliate marketing.

Good luck in your studies as well:)

Thanks very much for the encouragement.

People who like writers such as Raymond Carver, David Foster Wallace, J.D. Salinger- or who are interested in writing theory- check it out. I'd like your comments.

Weirdly enough, one of my posts is about the Goosebumps series- kind of a response to this blog.

Beta members, press support, and positive feedback during the beta would be great!

NXUS.co is preparing for an upcoming beta!

---------------------------

NXUS – the center of entertainment, media, and technology.

Driven primarily through user interaction, NXUS allows users to share, discuss, and vote on today's latest entertainment media and content, highlighting movies, games, gadgets, mobile phones, and more.

NXUS will feature a 24/7 live feed of the latest in entertainment. The website will be separated into three core areas; Movies, Video-Games, and Tech. The content will also be presented in three separate sections. NXUS exclusives, The Feed (The NXUS), and Connect (User Content).

Users will have their own profiles which can be easily integrated to Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google+ and other social media networks. Users can also create unique groups/channels to promote high-quality content and gain "connections" through positive community feedback. All comments, ratings, user features, user reviews, and user media will be archived on the user pages / channels.

NXUS will be an organically growing universe of media and features, filtered by user interaction.

---------------------------
Content Creation - User Networks / Custom Channels

User Pages (users/readers/contributors)

Beta members will have access to creating user profiles where they can track friends and custom channels through "connect." Users and readers will have access to posting features, previews, ratings, media, reviews, blogs, and status updates. High quality content / media and positive comments will earn users "connections" and the ability to meet new friends and discover the latest media hitting the web.

Users utilize NXUS as a gateway to the highest rated viral entertainment content / news. While users can find media and friends through "connect," readers can also find the latest content through the Feed and NXUS exclusives on the homepage.

Teaser of User Profiles / Pages:
NXUS_user_profile.jpg

Custom Channels (website owners, developers, publishers, partners)

Websites, press publications, developers, hardware / software publishers, and those interested in talking about the possibility of a custom channel for building new community "connections" and traffic, send us an email.

Custom Channels are something we want to implement further down the line and will allow the user to set up a feed of content and media from out-sourced links and have the ability to run exclusive ad campaigns specific to their content. Through positive feedback from the NXUS community, the channel can gain "Connections" allowing for their content to spread like wildfire and obtain new unique readership.

Example 1: Game publisher such as EA would like to hold exclusive ad space on its NXUS page and extended game channels for Battlefield 3. Also, content feeds set up through Facebook, Twitter, RSS, etc can be integrated with sharing the latest media / content on the channel.

Example 2: Freelance journalist looking to promote his content for possible jobs can provide media / reviews / previews for sale. Posting links to simplified portfolio and linking to content through NXUS.

Example 3: Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures would like to run a viral marketing campaign for Dark Knight Rises via a customized NXUS channel, gaining "connections" to extended movie title and company pages.

Example 3: Youtube / Gametrailers / Video Podcast wanting an exclusive channel to embed high rated video content. Having custom ad space for your direct channel.

---------------------------

The beta is scheduled to launch near the end of July.

j incredible, it looks like an interesting idea but i have to ask, what is the appeal to using your service than something more connected like Facebook?

is there some sort of exclusivity that your site offers that wouldnt be offered in tandem elsewhere? it also seems to rely a lot upon user input, which can be a bad thing especially if you don't have anyone passionate enough to work for you for free.

at least that's how i see it.

You are very kind. I am hoping to actually get an account of next year's festival published somewhere. People commonly regard literary and cultural festivals as a sort of closed circuit of entertainment and edification - if you didn't go, you don't get anything out of it - but they really can be written about. And should, really - because attendance is utterly dwarfed by the number of people potentially interested.

Thanks for your questions and feedback.

NXUS is integrated with all major social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Youtube, etc). For those who use any of the networks, they can share, discuss, and rate the content using the networks integrated with the website. So you are not bailing on Facebook / Twitter to join NXUS, but rather using them to share and discuss viral media content faster.

The exclusivity comes in three parts...

1. NXUS exclusives are featured over all other content and will include interviews, exclusive media, reviews, previews, etc of movies, games, tech, mobile, blu-ray, etc.

2. The Feed. Now were Digg / N4g are run by user submissions, submissions are filtered in along with other events/news/media from the web and staff selects what features/articles go into the Feed. Users than choose what's high-quality / viral by voting, sharing, and commenting.

3. User Pages / Custom Channels. During the beta, users can rate, comment, share, etc with their NXUS account. By providing high-quality content, the user can gain "connections" allowing their content and profile to be noticed by more people.

Eventually when we roll out the custom channels....websites, youtube partners, press publications, publishers, developers, etc can utilize our custom channels to gain "connections" for their products / content. These custom channels will have additional features for customization and the ability to hold exclusive ad space.
