Planetside 2 graphics on PS4 equivalent to 'Ultra' settings on PC

In an interview with GameZone, PlanetSide 2 creative director Matt Higby said:
"The PS4 version will be nearly identical to the PC version, with the exception of the User Interface.
If you turned up your PC version to Ultra, that's how it's going to look on PS4," he added when prodded for a graphical comparison.
So if you're like me and own an average PC rig, you might be better off going with the PS4 version.

Of course, PlanetSide 2 will also include a few PS4-specific features, such as the system's DualShock 4 touchpad being integrated into the User Interface.
As Higby explained, the DS4's touchpad will be used to make menu navigation more seamless and "PC-like.

Also Planetside 2 will support remote play:
PlanetSide 2 will also support Remote Play at launch, so those of you who own a Vita will be able to able to stream gameplay footage directly to your handheld, freeing up the TV for other uses.

lock if old or not thread worthy

its not that impressive unless its also at 1080P and 60FPS

i'm sure the PS4 can also run any game at ultra settings if its toned down to 720P

"LOL yeah okay."

I don't think it's out of the question for PS4 to play Planetside 2 on the Ultra preset. The important question is at what framerate/resolution during something like a moderate sized bio lab battle.

I wonder whether the console version of this game can facilitate the same types of large, super-organized outfits that exist on the PC version. The game isn't exactly great when you're just rolling around in random squads where no one is really talking.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

KZ:SF and BF4 looks better and maintain good framerate.

PS2 is soooo good, I hope it can attract a lot of the traditional console fps crowd that usually only play COD and BF.

PS2 is a better mp shooter than both imo.

Hum... there are slightly less players in those games if you need a hint.

Right, so fewer players + higher graphical fidelity could conceivably be in the same performance range as more players + lower graphical fidelity, depending on the optimisation.

yeahhhhh no

1) KZ definitely does not look as good. BF4 on consoles looks much worse than PS2 at ultra 1080p on PC.
2)PS2 isn't stuck at 64p.
3) Map sizes are huge in PS2.

Please don't compare the scale of Battlefield and KZ:SF to Planetside.

That said, I hope it also runs at 1080p with a nice smooth framerate.

But I'm still worried it's gonna be filled with MLG cod pros trying to 360 no scope instead of attacking actual objectives. The only negative about this coming to console is it will be filled with console players

why......why would you want that. You see these people aren't like the FPS gamers of old, they don't enjoy learning shit, putting in effort, or recognizing depth, they fucking despise it. To them not only does that make the game bad, but fundamentally broken.

no, you want the old Killzone, Socom, MAG, Rainbow 6, Battlefield (pre BC2), Counterstrike, Halo (pre 4) crowd. That dying breed of gamers who live for depth, love challenge, and put in the most effort, and more importantly PLAY THE FUCKING OBJECTIVE

Dear Sony, if you make this 30 fps then I will be rather upset.

If, however, the frame rate is good then I will play the absolute feces out of this.

After the optimisation patches there has been quite a noticeable dip in graphical fidelity even at Ultra on the PC. The game runs 100x better now, but even before the patches, it wasn't that graphically intensive - just very poorly optimised.

Hardly shocking news,
Other than the atmospheric scattering and volumetric shadows, it is not that great looking.
The models and textures are (for the most part) kind of poor and it has a very heavy handed LOD system (at least on players).

Technically PS2 is a much more demanding game than KZ or BF4.

There is no way the PS4 is doing a couple hundred man battle with air , infantry and armour , at night with tracer fire and explosions popping everywhere at @ 1080.

My 670 can barely maintain 60fps after the optimisation update.

What CPU are you using? The game is still fairly CPU limited. Press Alt + F in game and you'll get a little indicator telling you whatever is limiting your framerate at that time, if it is largely showing the CPU - then you've found the source of your problem.

LOL yeah okay.

Edit: Maybe if they gimp the shit out of the PC version.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

no.

You guys are on the dev team? If not, how do you know how demanding the new multi-core optimized version of the game is? The lack of such optimization is the reason for many people's performance issues with the current version, right?

Seriously, coming in the thread just to laugh at the notion of the PS4 being able to run this game at high settings, even though you actually know nothing about the new version of the game that is being developed, is pretty ridiculous.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

Yep.

Does the number of players really have all that much to do with visual fidelity? I don't think rendering more player models is the main reason console games have typically had smaller online matches.

This is old news
7:30/12:45 mark

Games like Planetside 2 will benefit from a closed single spec-ed hardware since they are quite hard to optimise for a variable spec-ed platform like PC, which is why the performance of the PC version isn't really indicative of how it will perform on PS4.

I'll check later but you're probably right. My CPU isn't great - amdfx8350. But the optimisation patch fid help though.

No, all those players /doing things/ in the game is what makes it more intensive.

Killzone looks like its on Mega Ultra settings compared to PS2 on Ultra, i dont doubt the graphics, I wanna hear about the fps. Even though PS2 has big maps, the battles are fought at multiple locations, from my time with it, it wasnt too often that large scale battles took place at one location.

The game is really CPU limited now, so they can definitely crank up the eye candy. The PhysX effects won't port over though, if they ever come back.

Thanks for the insightful comment.

People are quick to downplay something in console threads.

It has nothing to do with the PS4, I can assure you

That game has and will probably continue to run like dogshit on a good PC.

The PS2 dev team are downright incompetent and I hate what they did to a game I was so hyped for

Sounds good for PS4 owners. But what's the point of holding back faster hardware, the developer has a ceiling in their abilities? I mean, it's still possible dial up the image quality, right? Or is the PS4 version also adjustable up tp 4k @60fps, adj. FOV, and max AO, AA and AF? Or the other way, the PC version is frame rate limited, and with dumbed down fixed settings?
