Planetside 2- Planetsized Battlefield now on Ps4

i tried to play this game twice but it tells me that i have to wait for about 9 minutes before i can play. what's up with that?

Your chosen faction (Vanu, Terran, NC) has, at that specific moment, hit its own faction-specific limit for number of players on your Server, or all factions are at capacity and the server is essentially just plain old full. There's an overflow for excess numbers but you have to be a paying member to get that benefit. To avoid having to queue without subscribing, make a character in another faction for your Server, or make a character on a different (hopefully less crowded) server, or try not to play during peak-hours. Server queues for MMOs are a fairly common 'feature' but always annoying. However, the alternative of letting more people on ruins it for everyone. DBG opening up more Servers would be splendid (assuming they aren't ghost towns), but yeah, that's a decision which is left up to PnL projections.

Tried to fly the first Jet last night. And nope, didnt like the controls at all. Are there different control options? Any recommendations on the best control setup?

Man, I don't know if it's because I've been playing Mass Effect 2 all week or if it's because I've not played since the beta, but the visuals are so clear in this. Seems smoother too, holds 30 much better.

I seriously doubt the graphics quality and frames per second quality have improved since early beta.

Got to take PS2 for a spin last night. I see some potential here. In the 30 minutes I played I got some decent kills. The way you control vehicles is going to take some getting used to and the gunplay isn't nearly as polished as Destiny and BF4. Pretty janky. Really detailed world. Huge maps. I can see where if you had a large group of friends to coordinate with that PS2 could be awesome. As just one random person wandering through the chaos? Don't know if it will hold my interest.

I play it on PC from time to time. It certainly doesnt hold my attention for long unless I get involved in some major battle where there is a lot of progress. The controls are also janky on PC but this confirms that its more of the dev decision over anything.

I see people talking about potential but we'vs been saying this since launch on PC. It does have a lot of potential but SoE/Daybreak flaundered this game since launch, which is a Damn shame.

I'd love to try it, since it is "free to play".

But it's not free in the German PSN store :(
The lowest available game "version" has some weird booster thingy and costs 0,49 €.

But paying this would mean charging the credit card with 5€ since that's the minimum payment -.-

Can anyone tell my why there is no REALLY FREE SKU available?

played saturday.. framerate does dip when there is a lot going on, so I wouldn't say its a locked 30.. also appears they aren't using v-sync, noticed screen tearing in youtube videos, and when I was playing it was very evident.

I heard at one point that Germany (and maybe some other countries) force f2p games that would be rated T or M to have a cost(0,49 €), possibly to prevent young kids from going in and downloading it without parents permission or knowledge. Warframe is another one that did the same thing, seeing that one it's obvious why(lots of blood, cutting people in half, etc.)

Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense!

Is there a way to change your in game voice callouts (i.e "medic!" - "let me heal you" etc)?

Was playing earlier and the medic on my team had a voice like Aaaahnold.

It was too clear to be coming from someones mouthpiece on their headset, it sounded "in-game"

Not heard it since and I know I'm not going mad, I heard it, I swear! :p

Press Options and goto "My Character" you'll find them in there, you have to buy them with battle cash though. You will also find some passive buffs for some classes which can be bought with certs.

Well you could also use paypal or "sofortüberweisen.de". That way you will only pay the game and don't need to add money to your psn account.

Anyway, the best thing you could do is download it from another EU PSN store like UK. If your PS4 is set to german, the game will be in german too.

Edit: had to download an update just now.

This game is pretty good once you get an understanding of how everything works. It took me a few hours of messing around to figure out how to get at the vehicles and change my weapons etc, i still haven't got at the aircraft's yet tho. I wouldn't say its overwhelming as such, it's just more confusing than anything. You get thrown in to the noobzone but the game doesn't really help you along with any tutorials, you get a few basic tips as you play but you need to figure out most of the stuff by yourself and this might put alot of people off.

So I boot up the game to play and get put in a queue with a timer that keeps resetting, what's up with this bullshit? I'm pretty close to just deleting the game, it has been a horrible experience since launch.

Is there a secret on how to get on a server? Since I downloaded the game, I have tried to get on a server but so far no luck. Keep showing me I am in the queue and the timer never ends. WTH

Whew. Had a few hour blast playing Venu on Genudine Server. Spent it mostly in that Ice Land. Was one of the first Sunderer's to deploy to fight for this gigantic base.

Since I was the only deployable point in the area and the threeway firefight lasted over an hour, I racked up thousands of points just getting people to deploy via my Sunderer. Hah.

Played this game for a while last night. It's legit. They could help out beginners a bit more though when you first long into the world. It took me a while to figure out that I had to spawn vehicle and drive for a long time (with shitty driving controls) to the area of the map where my team was trying to capture different areas.

We had a mad defence against a force containing 6 tanks. About 45 minutes of keeping them out behind the shield, which eventually fell.

Managed to hold them off and push through and take the forward spawn base they had.

Proper intense.

timer is just an approximation of when you will get on based on your position in the queu. yeah sucks that there is a limit. Im guessing you picked the "very high" population genudine server? only way to change servers is make a new character. Would be cool if they explained all this stuff while making these decisions.

Anyways Ive only had to wait 5-10 mins while playing mid day. And then 2 mins at night and no wait late night.

Vanu just getting wrecked on Genudine server right now

Feels like Vanu gets wrecked in every sever. i'm vanu but not on genudine btw.

Aircraft controls are shyte shyte shyte.

Can i even use both sticks?

Best I could find is to use LEFTY mode and change the Vertical setting to Inverted.

Whats up with the icons for skins on the store? Infinite use ones? so some are single use only? and whats up with the anvil and hammer?

Maybe they explain all that stuff somewhere, but I couldnt see it. haha

Vanu sucks, not sure why GAF wants to be on that side of things, everyday I've played they have gotten their shit pushed in.

Eh. I'd almost rather be the underdog. Gota git gud.

Eh, ground vehicle controls are equally crap and just as clunky. I strongly believe they're crappy by design at this point. And I find it incredibly weird that flight controls are not inverted by default, which every other game seems to do.

It isn't explained but you can infer it from the description, haha!

The ones with the infinite symbol can be used for all factions. The ones without are locked to a specific faction. Purple camos are Vanu only, for example.

If there's anything you would like me to try and explain in less game-specific terms and in more general terms, let me know. Much like anything else you get very 'jargon'-y after being exposed to something for a while. ;)

Re-reading my post there are definitely a few things I probably could have elaborated on but I was in a bit of a rush at the time. ;)

No problem Espher, I know what that's like, I virtually think in three letter acronyms!

I'm sure I will have more questions going forward though so ready that knowledge my friend. We're all going to need it.

I hit level 7 by the time I finished playing on Sunday so next up is trying the tank and running an engineer character though I suspect I will revert back to engineer/medic with a Sunderer in the short term as this seems like a great way to maximise XP return for a new player due to the XP you get from people spawning on your in action Sunderer.

I think, when on the deploy screen you can press R3 to spawn near squad members. Not sure how it decides which squad member to put you next to though, one would assume the squad leader.

Nice one. I haven't had the chance to try it as I couldn't get on last night (update then servers down) but if that works that's ideal.

This is interesting.

On Ceres (EU) Vanu seem to be doing OK and all factions seem to be pretty balanced. When I played on both Saturday and Sunday Vanu had Hossin nearly locked down and were at about 75% of the continent at the top of the map screen (not sure of the name) but the balance of power seems to be changing pretty constantly.

On Lithcorp (EU) the NC population is far in excess of the TR and VS at nearly all hours of the day from what I've seen. Percentages seems to fluctuate from 40/30/30 to 50/25/25. I'm NC, so yeah, part of the problem.

However, I get the distinct impression that the TR and VS forces on Lithcorp are way, way more organised and team-worky than NC, not to mention far more consistently focused on properly positioning/defending their Sunderers. Maybe that's just a perspective thing though, kind of a "the worst faction is always your own faction" sorta thing.

Anvil and Hammer mean it's a Player Studio item. Made by a member of the PS2 community. They get a cut every time one of their designs is purchased.

This is how I feel the whole time playing this game. Walk out of spawn, maybe shoot someone then die. Maybe die without doing anything.

I do like the feeling that my playable character is just cannon fodder though.

At first Vanu was getting crushed on Ceres too. Now it seems to be going much better.

Played 2 hour-alert yesterday on Indar (Vanu, Genduine) and I believe we won, but... what an anticlimatic ending that was. "You won" *poop* Nothing. But the continent wasn't locked, so I'm a bit confused what actually happened and what I've played there. Anyone any idea? Didn't seem to get a buff either. The voice said the "Souveränität" won, which is Vanu, I believe. Strange. Quite disappointing, if that was truly it.

Need one more Shield and one more C4-upgrade and I'm all good with my medic for now. Fun class, albeit severly missing the jetpack. Traversing some more vertically designed bases can be a fucking pain in the ass.

Go Vanu!... Clearly GAF were fashionably late to the battle. : )

I'd be fascinated to see a stop-motion rendering of the territory changes aggregated over the entire period the game has been active.

I'd also be curious, just for fun, to cross reference faction data against player country, age, gender, socio-economic factors and a bunch of other metrics to try and understand faction choice motivations among the players.

Mechanical, practical, emotional?

The factions have slightly different mechanics from what I understand but on the other hand they also have - in the way they are described in game - simple and generally emotively described characterizations of their reason to fight to control the planet that could in a very very simplistic manner be applied to basic political motivations.

Only issue I'm having is every time go to social tab it saying none my friends are playing although I know they are because my PS dashboard has them listed as playing. Also spazzing out when click leave squad I can never rejoin another squad and only button can press is square which is leave squad

For some reason Planetside does not import your PSN friends list, so you'll have to invite them to your friends list in game using their in-game name, and then they'll show up. As far as squads, once you leave the one that you spawn with, I think you can only invite people to your squad(triangle on the squad screen) or accept invitations to join other squads.

This is indicative only of my personal playstyle obviously, but if I were spending Battle Cash for purely 'cosmetic', cash-only stuff, the only thing I'd consider would be a horn for my Sunderer (it's silly/fun, but can also be legit useful for getting people out of the damn way and for indicating that they should hop aboard the bus) and some snow camo for my Medic just so I can be a Space WhiteMage. For weapons that can be gotten via certs but I'd consider paying for to unlock without the grind (these weapons are typically 1k certs each), I'd first get the second Burster gun for Max, next I'd consider a dedicated Anti-Vehicle secondary gun for the Main Battle Tank, and then a pair of Furies for Sunderer. If I cared about flying (I don't), I'd be looking to immediately upgrade [all/I] the weaponry on the fighters and the bomber.

Ok who want's to squad up?

EU, Ceres. PSN davidbloop

Would love to play with some gaffers haven't had a chance to play with any of you guys yet

Great thanks. Are there any other non max guns worth paying for? To be honest due to work and a newborn I don't have much time and I'd happily pay a few bucks to be competitive. Yes I know the starter guns are really good but are there any better?

It really depends on class/faction. The only weapons I would consider paying cash for as a sane person (I'm a lunatic so I bought the NS Black Ops pack on Steam when it was on sale for like 70% off, among other random guns) are:

* Sunderer Fury (front/rear)
* Sunderer Walker (front/rear - though I can't remember where the cert costs are at now)
* MAX Burster to pair with default Burster
* MAX Pounder (TR) (functions as viable AV, AI, Anti-MAX)
* MAX off-hand AI to pair with default AI weapon
* MBT Halberd
* Harasser Vulcan (TR) or Saron (VS) (maybe) - I can't speak as to what the best fit is for NC, but Halberds are viable for all three, too, and thus not a bad buy!
* Galaxy Bulldog (left/right)
* Galaxy Walker (top/rear)
* Flash Fury (if Wraith flashing as an infiltrator)
* SMGs (all classes use SMGs, and they're a good CQC weapon)
* NS Commissioner (imo best sidearm, available to all classes + all factions)
* Optionally a BASR for TR/VS snipers (NC start with one)

All other infantry/vehicle weapons I'd get with certs unless I played around with something in VR and loved it AND it was on sale. Either way, play around with something in VR before buying it, and take advantage of trials!
