Platinum Games interested in Vigil and its employees [UPDATE: Sony SM interested]

Wasn't the whole reason why Darksiders was a decent game because they threw out some of the eastern conventions when designing the game ... I just feel more wary of this, than Ubi picking them up on the cheap.

What eastern conventions?

Employees; yes. Franchise; no. Darksiders art and 12-year old DeviantArt account concept leaves me absolutely cold and wouldnt want to see Platinum wasting a second on it.

yes and no.

If they chose to do a game together, building D3 would be easier, and faster rather than create a new IP from the start.

in the long term I'd prefer a new IP.

But Nintendo had better pay for D3 by PG rather than remake Wind Waker.

They were working on a new IP "Crawler" though...

Just like PG certainly has protos for unannounced IPs.

There is something to be said about a Japanese dev rebuilding a western IP.

Imagine the interviews. that's free marketing. and Nintendo needs a game like that to fill the void of the far away next Zelda.

they finish Darksiders' story.

and build a new IP together for PS720 thanks to Nintendo's money.

everybody wins.

Not sure what Platinum sees in that franchise to be honest.

two previous good games that still hold potential to achieve greatness and commercial success if 3 is correctly planned/budgeted/marketed?

Apart from the fact Darksiders IP doesn't need to be rebuilt...I hope there is another party interested who wants it on the cheap cheap....

I think Darksiders need a tighter design.
2 was good but sort of all-you-can-eat.

It's just my opinion, but a shorter game with even better mechanics, and the promise of 4 co-op... Imagine combo-ing ennemies with your friends, resolving puzzles while other players hold off ennemies etc...or just riding on your side and sometimes meeting with another player controlled horseman.

You are not selling me on the idea, c'mon Warner please...

Shouldn't be news, really. Every time a major studio goes under, other developers basically send lifeboats. Some of these lifeboats are public (like this), others are not.

Platinum is probably one of dozens recruiting right now.

If you're not sold on the idea of what the creators of Vanquish and Bayonetta can do to Darksiders mechanics/story-wise...we definitely enjoy Darksiders for different reasons.

The story was good and the gameplay was great...the length was great on both as well...

sure.

I'm just discussing the idea that6hrs long games with crazy action do sell more than 40hourish games.

So trouncing the game to 20hrs witha dded replayability (PG is good for that), emphising on some more action, and co-op, closing the story, and giving PG the chance to expand is goodenough for me.

I'm in the game for Warner's Darksiders 3 too. but it's not happening.

I could see Warner buy the IP for cheap and set up their own studio in Austin.

Story wise? You were compelled by Bayonetta's story line? It was horrible.

It's a nice sentiment and all, but I doubt most of them can just pick up and move to Japan :\

I like when shit goes crazy, yes.

Zanyness, dancefloor credits, meteorit shooter credits, sending cigarets butts to robots stupidity...yes.... Porn star starring action games are the best and make for deep, yeahh deeep, stories.

C'mon PG is fun. Darkisders can do with some fun.

Why would they do that? If Platinum have the money and the desire to buy and run Vigil then they'd more than likely just stay where they are, like THQ Montreal (well, until they probably get merged with Ubi Montreal).

It was already fun, actually going back to Warner they could integrate the four horsemen in the DCU...

I very much insisted on Nintendo buying PG way before the collaboration was announced.
So I feel like whatever the relationship, as both Vigil and PG have great reknown to small audiences, the two of them could at least team-up and offer their repective fans something special

Might sell to both communities, so probably 2M units. Possibly on WiiU, I think Nintendo would be intersted in something hardcore that can reach 2M people. Especially as PS720 will have taken the spotlight by then.

Nintendo needs to feed its core audience. and start now if they want core games in 2015.
from the look of it, most 3rd parties will not be on WiiU dev duties by then.

while Joe is exclusive at Marvel?

Get Jim Lee in on it he can do the designs...

Yes I'm sure Nintendo would love that.

i'm selling my WiiU tonight, s oNintendo should love for some games to give me reasons not to jump ship (WiiU + Mario=>PS3 + Ni No Kuni)

I'll buy one again for W101 only when Mario 3D or Bayo 2 have release dates and I'm done with the Last of Us and I'm ready to get rid of my 360 too.

Platinum + Vigil + Darksiders would be crazy in the best possible way. A Platinum action game set in the Darksiders universe would be too amazing for me to process.

Vigil are incredibly talented devs, if they had to worry about finding new jobs I'd be really baffled at the state of the industry.

I'm a gigantic Platinum fanboy and I love Darksiders so of course I'm fascinated by the prospect of them trying their hand at it, but I think a better use of Vigil would be working on an IP that Platinum came up with. PG exudes creativity from every orifice and makes things like creating memorable characters and settings look as easy as breathing.

I mean, you could make a Darksiders-like game set in the world of Anarchy Reigns and it wouldn't even be a stretch. And that's a game where the storyline and backstory were probably just kinda slapped together to stick a singleplayer campaign on a multiplayer-focused brawler.

guess we're squatting this thread.

Jim Lee + Scott Snyder on New Superman for summer 2013.
the guy only works on very high profile releases.

Hope PG keeps the magic and the jobs alive.

Jim Lee worked on DCU Online just sayin'

But if PG does buy them I hope they don't interfere with Vigil at all...

C'mon Warner you could have another transmedia property here if you want

I enjoyed Darksiders but Vigil went 2 steps forward and 2 steps back with Darksiders II. Fixed a lot of issues with the original but just added too much unnecessary stuff (imo) to appeal to a bigger market. If they had kept the format of the original with the new improvements in combat and movement I doubt it'd have bombed as hard as it did. If Platinum could take the franchise and Vigil and work their magic I'm sure it'd be marvelous.

Sadly I don't see it happening :(

I can't believe no one wants Darksiders. With a decent budget and better editing the series could be a hit IMO.

Why would Nintendo be happy about helping MS and Sony getting new IPs? Hey dev house let me pour a ton of money into you so we get 1 game and then you can afford to make a bunch of other stuff for our competitors, that you won't release on our system!

It's not really a win win at all. Unless those new IPs were guaranteed to come to the Wii U as well.

Darksiders is a series that I had some fun with, but I feel that it was still falling just short of being something really special. Platinum games putting their spin on it would more than likely give it the extra spice it needs. Would love to see this.

I had no idea Platinum had money to throw around. At best, they might (and it looks like they are) nab some of the talent from Vigil.

This is the same company that had to practically give up on a sequel to their best selling game because its publisher didn't have enough confidence in it

Man I wish SSM would take a lot of these vigil guys and make GOW with darksiders openness. Ideally though, I would like Sony or Microsoft to buy them and continue the darksiders series. Damn I loved 1 and 2...

they don't.
But PG is indie. so they're free to get money through banks, capital ventures, kickstarter etc...

next-gen is here, PG can work on two games at a time, but might need more hands to do the same next-gen.
a one at time game company is probably impossible these days, so expanding might not be an option and Vigil is a competent dev with knowledge on action and adventure which is a good fit for PG.

PG: Hey Nintendo, we're making Darksiders 3
N: What's that?
PG: Uuuuh it's like Zelda.
N: We're done ~tears contract~
