Play Nintendo - Announcing Nintendo @ E3 2014

This all sounds specifically targeted. If you're not in the US and is not a Smash fan, most of the value dies. For the broader Nintendo fanbase, a proper press conference would be better. And for the mainstream press coverage.

Why? The broader fanbase will still be watching a stream either way.

A press conference is for the press; directly benefits only them. With the Digital Event the press will be getting all the same information they usually would, so they can report on it in exactly the same way if they so choose. And they should.

I took a class on Persuasion for my BA in Psychology and the press conference argument seems to be mostly a resistance to change/appeal to tradition bias. "This is the way it has always been done and therefor it is the correct way to do things." The problem with this line of thinking is that you never explore other possibilities and may never find out that the traditional way of doing things isn't as effective as other ways of doing the same thing. It's possible that the way you are doing things is the best way, but "because that's the way we've always done it" isn't a good reason and can blind people from better alternatives to the point that they will staunchly refuse to acknowledge a better or equally as good way.

The press obviously has a bias in this affair because they have a lot more to gain from being middlemen presenting information that Nintendo could more effectively present directly to their current and potential customers. All of those headlines are good clickbait and set their readers up to believe that Nintendo's current E3 strategies are bad without ever giving them a chance. They're preying on peoples' resistance to change by reporting Nintendo's plans with negative headlines. Nintendo should work with the press but they shouldn't be beholden to them like this.

They are not doing a live E3 conference for one reason and that is the complete lack of 3rd party support for their system. What do they have to show that is coming out this summer or holiday besides Smash and Bayonetta? A huge Zelda or Mario Galaxy reveal would be worth a live showing would it not? Makes me think Zelda isn't even close to being ready to show or it's been moved to another system altogether.

Well yeah that's another thing, but at the same time, it's not helping them to overcome the situation. This is basically Nintendo crawling into a rabbithole. A financially safe decision, but...

To me the difference is that the press conference is like watching a live play (that only the elite few have seats) whereas the live stream is like watching a dvd at home.

The play can have mistakes, either from the props or the actors. The play has waiting time between acts. The play also has a live audience cheering and jeering.

The home DVD is edited so only the correct content makes it to final, but it also has no audience cheering or jeering.

I'd understand if I were one of the elite that used to get invited and now i'm told that my favorite event of the year is now cancelled.

Hmm, don't understand what everyone is upset about. Why do they need a live E3 conference? It's all the same shit. Except they wont have to worry about fucking up their presentation live on air. We're all going to watch this thing the exact same way we would watch their live conferences.

I really don't get it. Guess people just like to complain about stupid shit? It's not like most of you had a chance to go to E3 anyways.

Fts...this is going to be my first E3 experience (a dream comes true really) and Nintendo is not gonna have a conference ??

FML...

I really hope that at least fans will arrange something like a big projector screening for the stream or a TV or something. I NEED TO SHARE MY REACTION TO ZELDA U WITH OTHER NINTENDO FANS....GOD !! IM REALLY FRUSTRATED T_T

Well, is not like anyone who is passing by can get into these conferences. So unless they invited you, you will need that big projector...

Wut? Unless you had a pass to get into the press conference, your experience will be no different. In fact for an average member of the public attending the show (I assume?) you may have picked a great year as it sounds like Nintendo are putting a lot of effort into their consumer experience this year.

And a Smash, 3DW, and DK reveal would be worth a live showing too....right?
That's not the criteria.

But about 3rd Parties, yeah they probably don't have any "big" titles, or exclusives. As per usual.

Welcome to the internet.

You just made a lot of assumptions with nothing backing them up.

I've seen that reaction a lot.

People were sure Nintendo would ditch the Gamepad.

*Nintendo states they want to focus on it*

People back whenever thought Iwata should and would be fired.

*Iwata's new president of Nintendo of America as well*

If at this E3, they have NintendoLand 2 and nothing else, your hunch was valid.

I don't think they are going to have 5 new first party IPs but to think they'll just have Zelda and everything else shown what we already know of...I don't buy.

They'll have a few surprises...their impact to be determined.

I guess it's your right to say they are slowly weening out the Wii U but until there is any evidence of that(and there has been none so far from the people that actually make that call), it doesn't mean much.

People could think Nintendo is the dumbest company of all time but they call their own shots, "popular" opinion on messageboards doesn't.

Sounds good to me, hopefully the online stability for the Digital Event is better than last year's Direct.

That Smash Bros. tournament sounds really cool.

The developer directs, from last years e3, was one of my favorite new additions. This tree house deal sounds to expand upon that idea.

There's literally no difference to the gamer.
Before you would watch a live stream of the press conference at 9 am.
Now you watch a live stream of the Direct at 9 am.

What the hell are you all freaking out about.

I defo believe this can have a deeper impact to the general populous if done right.
I saw the announcement on my Facebook news feed.
So if the hype generated through social media/store outlets is driven up till e3 then there is an expectation built - that is what I think was missing from last year.

Would be great if there is promo staff in stores on the day.

Also fingers crossed that it's not Iwata standing like he's chryogenically frozen in front of a White background speaking in broken english. Sure to have someone more dynamic.

but yeah - I wish media sites would publish what Nintendo announced vs. what they didn't announce.

Well, looking at sales and interest in Nintendo's latest offerings further strenghtens my position. People are not interested in just another Zelda, just another Wii Party, just another 3D Mario, or just another DKC, when these games just look at play like their predecessors.

Sales aren't and should never be a barometer for quality...unless you feel both Fifa and CoD are considered the upper echelons of the gaming industry then go for it. Knock yourself out.

Do remember, the actual cheers for the Zelda Twilight Princess reveal in 2004 weren't really audible by the people at home. They had mostly been muted out of the livestream. It wasn't until people uploaded their own videos that it became clear.

As long as the trailer itself is hype its going to be god. We don't need Miyamoto dancing on stage for it to be a good reveal.

Yeah, when the game is months away, you're not going to be thinking of Miyamoto and a plastic sword.

You're going to be thinking of how awesome the game looked and that doesn't change whether it's shown in a sewer or shown on the back of the car of a stuntdriver jumping over 70 cars.

No thank you lol.

Audience reactions are what gives E3 so much fun to watch. Sony's E3 2013 would have not been nowhere near as memorable if it weren't for the live reaction.

Heck just look at the TP reveal as well.

So you care more about audience reactions than the games shown? what

Really weird for people to be sperging out just because Nintendo isn't doing a "proper" press conference. Is the reaction of the crowd more important or something? Who gives a fuck?

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and WiiU... Monolith Soft's X... PlatinumGames' Bayonetta 2... FeelGood's Yarn Yoshi... Maybe a Nintendo Land 2... The new Fatal Frame and Hyrule Warriors from Tecmo-Koei... And of course the new Legend of Zelda for WiiU... And maybe a Majora's Mask 3D... This would all be more than enough for me. I think there's a good chance we'll see most of these items. Maybe even Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, if it didn't fold when Atlus made its transition. We could also see whatever Pokken Fighters is, and maybe that 3DS detective game starring Pikachu and featuring facial recognition.

Know what worked better, especially for Nintendo? Spaceworld. An event that was all to their own... no fighting for attention, focus entirely on your own brand. This is what ALL THREE should be doing versus E3.

100% this. Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony are all huge players in the gaming space. Blizzard has it's own conference each year. Why can't the big three do the same? That way they get all the focus for that one week(end) to themselves, and they can do whatever they want.

I didn´t review all the 11 pages this thread, so I don´t know if some one have point this out yet.

The main event seems to be the Smash Bros Invitational, and that seems as a good move, but It also mean that they don´t have any other bombs to deliver at E3. If they we´re to announce Zelda Wii U, they would do it at Kodak Theather, not in a Nintendo (Direct) Digital Event.

I was ready to buy a Wii U Next Week, now I think I´m better off waiting for E3 to see if Nintendo have something besides Smash Bros in the future.

PLEASE.

Zelda will be there.

Their biggest announcement of games in recent memory was a January...DIRECT.

Have you paid any attention to Nintendo during the last two years?

The following games were announced via Nintendo Direct:

Super Mario 3D World
Mario Kart 8
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Pokemon X and Y
Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

Nintendo doesn't need a live conference to announce a big title like Zelda U.

Smash bros is easily nintendo's biggest game this year. Most of their advertising efforts will go to it. There big "digital event "is there big thing at e3 so that is where the announcements will be.

Good call. Smash bros isn't a huge game or anything, that's why it was announced at last year's E3 direct. Zelda isn't even their biggest seller (even though it's my favorite).

Are you just trolling?

I assume you didn't see Nintendo's E3 Direct last year, where they gave us our first look at Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for WiiU and 3DS. In fact, tons of big games have been announced in Nintendo Directs, including A Link Between Worlds mere months before E3. I'm confident Zelda will make a grand appearance in the E3 Direct.

Yea I don't get the hate for this. Its awesome I get it may not be for the mainstream but who the fuck cares. It's not like they would get the coverage anyways.the press would still ignore them. This is straight to the point and straight to the players. Smash tournament is awesome. Best buy demo is great, tree house live @ e3 so we get in depth gameplay and commentary, digital direct to show of all the big announcements in a fun light hearted way. E3 has been boring for years and Nintendo is offering something different. Both sony and ms announced consoles outside of e3 last year why do that if e3 is such a big deal. Instead the e3 confrences were mostly filler with a few cool things. Im looking forward to the games.

Are people really saying that Zelda needs a conference when Smash was just announced last year.

And Smash's CGs have been of the highest tier Nintendo has ever done. If anything "needed" a direct for hype reasons, it would the cutscnes done for Smash.

So it's a non-issue.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Google Image searching Wii Fit Trainer even with Safe Search ON. All kinds of pornographic, uh, "fan art" slips through Google's filter.
