PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Gonna try this out when it releases. I hope my pc can handle it or else I'll just refund it I guess.

I've been craving this kinda game for time now, so I really hope my PC is not too shit for it

I'm confused, the game said he ran over the player
If your teammate in duo games is still alive, you are knocked out and not killed. If you are knocked out in a car you are dropped out of the car.

In this case, the sniper shot knocked the guy out, which caused him to fall out of the car. Since the car was still moving it ran him over and killed him. The sniper still got the kill but it was the car running over him that actually killed him.

Was possible during the beta, didn't have issues on my 970

Nice! You have a better CPU than me, but I'm pretty sure it'll work out fine.

BTW, is the game 30$ in the US? 30 Euro seems a little on the higher end and I wouldn't want to pay 30 Euro when the game costs 30$ normally...

Oh and how's the game for Squads? Would most likely play with some other people and I read there are 4 player squad modes...

Looking at the steam page it seems there are already negative reviews for the game, 20% of them are bad. It's been out for 20minutes and there are 14 negative reviews already. No idea what they actually say though as they're unreadable at the moment.

Seems like it's pretty much exclusively people complaining about performance.

Did they include hardcore (first-person only) servers in early access?
Cant say I've seen any option for it yet, no.
Are we planning on creating a steam tag list in this thread or is there a discord server somewhere?
People seem to have just posted IDs but theres nothing stopping us from making a Discord group with EU/NA/Asia servers and such :3
There was a performance boost with the EA release?
Do you think I could reach 60FPS with a 970?
There was, runs a lot better for me. You can hit 60fps for sure I would think tweaking some options :)

Its $29.99, yeah.

There are 2 team modes.
Duo where its you and someone else, either a friend in your group or a random if youre not in a group. The other team mode is up to 4 players on a team, but if you queue alone its you VS groups of up to 4.

Pffft. Probably cause server issues logging in I guess. Already had a few matches with full 100 pop servers but after every one it asks me to reconnect. Ingame connectivity is fine.

Just played it for about an hour or so and had a blast. Runs good on my PC @ 1440p on ultra dips to about 44 but stays around 50-60 mostly. I'm sure he will get around to optimizing it sooner or later.

Guns feel good when shooting, people actually die in 2-3 hits. Watched my buddy run someone over while I was downed waiting to get revived.

Expect good things to come with future updates hopefully.

Yup. I mean they aren't wrong really. Game needs optimization but the team is aware of it as they have said it's there priority countless times in recent interviews.
Well performance is usually one of the last things to come, and with every patch they have improved it. If you read the negative reviews themselves its misinformation about the price point during the pre-order or people saying they cant connect to the server (whoopdiedoo) in addition to the "game runs bad" which is crazy to me as a 980 I'm getting between 70 and 120fps in Ultra texture and rest low to maximize FPS.

Like if you try to run at ultra, good luck without a beasty PC right now.
Still looks great too.

I can buy and try this out and refund just in case I don't like it, right?

Also, anyone have the size of the download? Thanks!
9GBish and yes, 2 hour refund window (playtime) or 2 weeks after purchase.

Never played anything in this genre, but this looks like it takes the elements of DayZ I always liked condensed to a fast-paced structure

Is it friendly to a newcomer? (Like not just a newcomer to this game, but this genre in general) Do you need a mic?

Depends. It takes some getting used too (recoil and inventory, space and such) but you get into it after a round or two and depending on how it goes you figure most of it out quick.

Mostly loot guns, get ammo, get backpack and some meds and go to ham :)

Overall, I think so. If not you got 2 hours :D

The gamemode is really straight forward so it's pretty easy to get into, but the fact that if you die once means it's game over can make it a bit rough on new players.
You won't need a mic if you're playing on a solo server, but If you're playing with other people in a squad is pretty much a necessity.

Others have basically answered the question but I suggest you can always watch some streams on twitch to get an idea of how to play so you aren't going in blind.

I've started a list of GAF Steam IDs in the OP. Just post your Steam profile page and play region and I'll continue to update it.

I remember somebody said they were going to start a Discord. If somebody posts a server link I can add it to the OP as well.

"The team here really take it seriously" said Greene. "Our lead gunplay designer, Marek, he had interviews with some of the streamers who've been playing [battle royale] since Arma 2, and a lot of [H1Z1: King of the Kill] streamers, and Arma 3 players, and he sat down for an hour with most of them just to get their feedback on weapons, on how they'd like gameplay to run, so we've really been active in listening to the community and trying to put their feedback into the game.

"That said, we still are making our game. So while we listen to the community we still will make decisions based on what we believe is correct. But the feedback we've got has been tremendous and it really has helped us improve the game over the last six months."

One important thing to note. Client optimization takes time, and will not be solved in one single patch. We will be working hard over the next 6 months to ensure all players enjoy smooth gameplay with no lag or FPS drops.

Initial Performance Improvements

Key Objectives
• To reduce the overload on the CPU, and make sure that the GPU performs to its full capability

Expected Results
• Frame rates will be stable even when in high-density areas
• Get higher frame rates across all graphic options

ETA: Apr. 14th (Expected to take roughly 5 weeks)

Further Performance Improvements

  • Step 1: Art assets optimization (Apr. 7th)
• Decrease the LOD vertex for buildings seen at long distances
• Decrease the total amount of vertex by adjusting the LOD on terrains

  • Step 2: Improve the rendering performance of terrain and ocean shader (TBD)
  • Step 3: Decrease the overload on the CPU by rearranging wall near buildings (TBD)
  • Step 4: Decrease the usage rate of the video memory (TBD)
* We have already managed to make some of the improvements in our final CBT build, decreasing video memory usage by 1 GB.

I'd hide the user list with tags and/or maybe use a google doc.

The devs have said that is was something that they may look into. But, imo, it probably wouldn't be worth it. H1Z1 has FP only servers but those are the least populated servers by far and aren't something even the pros like.
They've said it would be included for sure at launch, but I wasn't sure if they meant EA launch or launch-launch. Guess it was the latter.

Sweet. I did something similar using URL tags. Think it's cool to show the GAF username but you'll need to quote the post to view the Steam ID/profile link?
Yeah the quote just hides the thing in the [""] field so putting the steam ID there is fine, but you do need to quote the OP to show it :3

I set up a discord, see if it works for you guys, quote to reveal
