I always wish I'd bought PS3 at launch instead of listening to the internet. Even at that exorbitant launch price, in terms of years-per-dollar it would have been just fine as a value, with full BC to boot.

How do they even manufacture the custom parts these days? Do these factories specifically built for CELL now shut down? (Basing this on my memory that places were built for CELL and PS3)
Well I guess I've left it way too late to ever be lttp on PS3 hardware.I guess that means production has unofficially ended, they've not been shipping any units to the West since the Destiny bundle and remaining units in the UK got recalled a while ago.
Wonder how long the PSN servers for it have left.
My white, fat Japanese PS3 from 2007 is still the primary system in our living room. Works perfectly in every way, except in the past six months or so, it acts as if the network card died and won't connect online either wired or wireless.

Shouldn't be taken out of production until PS4 becomes fully backwards compatible.
Sony is messing up. There's no reason why they couldn't be doing what MS is doing now regarding that
Damn, it outlived the Wii and the Wii U.
Can someone explain to me the rationale behind calling the first PS3 "phat"? Why not "fat"? Why invent a word that doesn't exist? And what the "ph" to replace a simple "f"?My phat is still going strong but I wish I had been able to score a cheap new Super Slim model.
Cell is finally dead. Thank fucking god.
Outlived 1Up Yours, too.
Though PC don't have the customised hardwares present specifically in the consoles so there's that I guessI feel opposite to you really. Cell was the last of exotic console hardware. Now its just PCs with console shell, you can even predict PS5 specs today and you won't be far off.
Cell also was mighty powerful once utilized perfectly...yes it was hard, but it had something unique about it. It was great in my opinion.

Has there ever been word about US production stopping? About 6 months ago my buddy was looking for a ps3 and couldn't find them anywhere, except for a local target which had 3 of them on clearance for 99 dollars. He bought all 3, one for himself and kept the other 2 sealed for resell.

My slim died a few months ago and I had to replace it with a Super Slim. The only place I could find one was on Amazon and it was $200. Crazy. Cost me nearly as much as a PS4.Has there ever been word about US production stopping? Loved that console despite all of the problems it had, and by the end of the day Sony's line up turned out to be 10 times better than the 360's, and after they fixed the price it had the best value for money as well: free online and apps usage, legendary Plus service, lots of exclusives, Sony spilled blood but they really turned things around eventually.
Yeah, thank fucking god.Cell is finally dead. Thank fucking god.
Will we ever see the Cell emulated on a future PlayStation console?
It's really too bad that the PS3's final hardware revision looks like absolute shit. I wish there was a better looking version to buy for safekeeping--alas.
You'd be lucky if you got a launch unit that still works today.
