Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

OK, understood, so too many shortcomings to recommend? or you can deal with the shortcomings and get a good fight in.

You can definitely get a good fight as long as you upgrade your fighter's stats regularly so that he is always strong enough that even if half of your punches hit the mark they deal enough damage to eventually mitigate the consequences of the problems described. Same goes with defense-related attributes. Increase them and you wont mind getting hit from blind spots too much.

Of course this also means you can play the game at little doses as you do really get tired and your arms hurt so much you might need to take a couple of days break from the game.

As a fitness game this is in fact quite functional. You do really work your muscles like you would when boxing for real. The exercise that has you hit the padded gloves hold by the sparring partner is quite good cos you don't simply have to hit those gloves as fast as possible, but you have to hit them with the right punch (or you'll fail the exercise). Since the partner rises the gloves randomly, it really stresses your reaction times.

Let's not forget the game is just $40. Not $60. (Well, assuming you have a second Move of course).

I think it's totally worth a rent at least.

TTP said:
I know all that. I intentionally got super close to the character to highlight the issue, but that's something that affects the game even at medium distance. Say I perform an uppercut, but my hand is blocked by the opponent's elbow AND the camera ain't showing me that. Result: WTF MY UPPERCUT DIDN'T REGISTER. MOVE SUCKS!

And I also said all of that was technically correct. The thing is tho, when you are doing motion controls, not seeing a proper reaction on screen leads to false impression that detection is broken.

Now, since you can't add force feedback that would prevent your arms from moving, I think you need to find a way to have that 1:1 thing going on most of the time. Hence the suggestion to have a fixed distance that would allow fists to fly at least.

This is the same issue I had with the Gladiator Battle for awhile in Sports Champions. WTF why am I not hitting? This seemed to work just fine before!

And then I realized that I wasn't really reaching out towards the enemy when I was swinging. I was moving my arm across my chest, but not *lunging* forward at the same time. I corrected that, and it's worked fine ever since.

That seems to be the deal with The Fight, or any other number of Move games. If you're not doing the motion RIGHT, you may not get the results you want and then blame the calibration.

That's depressing... Is there a reason CoD isn't supporting Move? They have Wii versions, it's not like they don't understand how to make a pointer fps...

Microsoft is getting timed exclusive content and is propably paying for a big chunk of the marketing. Might have something to do with that.

Not feeling Sports Champions, think I'm gonna pick up Time Crisis....

What is the next *high quality* game coming to Move?
Dungeon Defenders, which is basically a pastel colored, multiplayer focused, Diablo-esque tower defense game.

I imagine it's missing from Black Ops due to time constraints as each CoD game only has 2 years of development. It's possible future instalments will support Move.

I doubt that. You probably shouldn't expect any PS3 exclusive features in future CoD games as long as that MS deal is in place. And that would include Move support obviously.

Sony's releasing some new HDMI cables for PS3 that are supposedly better than the cheap ones you can get at monoprice :lol In all fairness, they do claim to support new features and have some sort of Ethernet Channel gubbins:

Ultimate entertainment with new HDMI cables from Sony

High performance line-up with 3D support and Ethernet

• New high-speed HDMI cable line-up for enjoying Full HD 1080p Blu-ray Disc™ movies and PlayStation®3 gaming
• Full HD 3D compatible
• Supports all new HDMI features
• Premium quality conductor
• Range of lengths from 1m up to 10m, plus flat cable, swivel connector and Mini connector
Sony
Sony

The all-new family of high-performance HDMI cables from Sony delivers the ultimate entertainment experience with sparkling Full HD video and sound. You’ll enjoy premium performance and reliability, whether you’re watching movies on Blu-ray Disc™, PlayStation®3 gaming or viewing 3D images captured with your digital camera on TV. They’re also the first cables by Sony to offer full compatibility with the latest features, allowing Ethernet connectivity via HDMI plus other advanced entertainment features.

Available in a range of lengths from 1m up to 10m (depends on model), all new cables let you enjoy Full HD video and multi-channel digital surround sound from a single high-bandwidth cable. Cables are 3D-rated, letting you enjoy spectacular images from compatible sources on your 3D TV. High speed transfer performance also supports extended resolutions up to 4k – that’s four times the resolution of HD 1080 – as used in many state-of-the-art digital cinemas.

Premium performance with any signal source is further ensued by 24K gold plated connectors for extra durability. A new plug design makes it easy to distinguish between upper and lower faces of the connector body, assisting with fumble-free hook-ups.

Every cable offers full support for advanced features included in the latest HDMI features:

- HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC): combines HD video, audio and high-speed data in a single cable. HEC simplifies networking between Internet-capable TVs and other devices with minimised cabling requirements.
Note: Requires HEC-enabled TV and connected device
- Audio Return Channel (ARC): enables ‘upstream’ audio connections (e.g. from TV’s integrated tuner to A/V amplifier), thus simplifying cabling between TV and A/V system.
Note: Requires ARC-enabled TV and connected device
- 3D: supports a wide range of standard 3D formats up to 1080p resolution.
- Quad Full HD resolution, at 3840 x 2160: supports ultra-high resolution – as used in many 3D digital cinema systems.
- Colour spaces: support for extended colour spaces allows reproduction of rich, lifelike colours when displaying images on TV from a digital camera.
- New Mini (type C) connector (DLC-HEM**): allows direct connection between Handycam®, Cyber-shot™, α and Bloggie™ and TV or 3D TV.

DLC-HE**HF premium quality high-speed HDMI cable
This no-compromise cable is the ideal choice for enjoying Full HD (1080p) movies on Blu-ray Disc, PlayStation®3 gaming, 3D images and more. The ‘flat’ cable profile makes the DLC-HE**HF series ideal for connecting a wall-mounted LCD TV or projector where access space is at a premium. Furthermore, the cables feature Oxygen-Free Cooper (OFC) core wire for minimised signal distortion, with twin-layer shielding to reduce EM and RF interference.

DLC-HE**H Horizontal swivel connector HDMI Cable
This versatile cable features a connector body that swivels horizontally. It’s handy for connecting A/V components where space is limited.

DLC-HE**V Vertical swivel connector HDMI Cable
Similar to the DLC-HE**H series, this version features a vertical swivel connector for extra installation flexibility.

DLC-HE**P General purpose HDMI cable
Affordable but fully-featured, the versatile DLC-HE**P series assures superb Full HD video and sound quality from any source.

DLC-HEM** HDMI cable with mini (Type C) connector
Designed to match Handycam®, α or Bloggie™ digital cameras that include an HDMI port, this high-speed cable features a mini (type C) connection at one end. It’s ideal for ‘PC-free’ transmission of Full HD video, audio and 3D images directly from any compatible camcorder or camera to your HD TV or 3D TV.

The new range of high-speed HDMI cables with Ethernet Channel support by Sony is available from October.

They'll be HDMI 1.4 then. So most (all?) of those new features aren't going to be much use, because the PS3 doesn't support HDMI 1.4.

Also, wrong thread?

I finally was able to buy a second move controller. Sports Champions is so much better using two controllers. Looking forward to The Fight Lights Out.

So I read that Flight Control isn't coming to US PSN. Fine, since on the site it says that it's coming to the Japanese PSN on October 21st. Thing is, it's not there. Anyone have any random info on it or is this going to be some cool Euro/Aus exclusive.

What a joke.

The fact is, no matter what HDMI cable you use -- whether it's a $3.00 one or a $300.00 one -- you're going to get the same exact picture quality performance.

A digital signal is a digital signal is a digital signal, ad infinitum.

Can definitely see a difference there.

I got to try Move out for the first time yesterday at BestBuy. I almost bought move bundle on the spot. I'm still going to wait a bit before I get one, but I'm sold.

and thats the main reason I hate MS this gen...their f**king exclusive deals stealing from other console users experience. F'em!

What are you all finding your charge time to be with the Move controller?

I think I'm getting more than the seven or so hours I've seen mentioned before. Since I bought my two Move controllers at launch, I've charged them twice and have been playing a lot of Sports Champions, PSN Move demos, and TC:RS.

In response to the already misplaced HDMI remarks...

I don't see how Monster can make that claim.

Popular Mechanics and CNET both recommend buying the cheaper cables....

http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/gadgets/tests/4235717

Cheap does not necessarily mean bad just as expensive doesn't automatically mean better.

I'm fairly certain that this is sarcasm, but in the event that one HDMI cable looks better than another, it's because one cable is likely faulty or has a short / fault somewhere.

It would be pretty great if Sony would come in and undercut the overpriced HDMI-Cable market by offering these at like $10 or something... I could see $20 because of the Sony name... but there's no way they will release these at like $50 or $60 right?

The Sony branded PS3 component cables have an MSRP of $24.99. No way in hell these would be cheaper than that.

Finally Time Crisis arrived to my local store. Happy days.

Played some arcade Razing Storm and full Story mode.
+ shooting is fun
+ brainless action rocks
+ cheezy one-liners is a must
+ Story mode was not as bad as the reviews suggested,
+ Gun attachment was good to have in Arcade
+ Reloading automatic when half a clip is used (Story)
+ Cover was easy to use. Worked about 98% of the time. (Story)

- but Story mode lacked enough vehicle and turret moments and was mainly always the same stuff
- reticule drift is constant, so you have to manually correct it by pointing away from the tv. Why no re-center button? Holding the controller on your lap seemed to help a bit. Twisting Move is the problem.
- Turn speed/aim settings in Story mode was not enough. Can find good enough, but not perfect settings.
- Gun attachment in Story mode was uncomfortable, so play without it
- Cover button would have been better

Pirates Shooting game was clearly the best. Precise, fun and even innovative in the use of Move
+++ no reticule drift here! Why in the other versions? Hope the game gets a patch for other games for this.
- Installs 3500MB while Time Crisis doesn't?

Supergood for a 50€ investment. The Shoot is next as I can't get enough of these kind of games. Nice break from Demon's Souls constant circle of death.

Good summary dofry. I haven't noticed any difference in drifting (or lack of it) between the different games tho. The pointers seem to behave exactly the same to me. Haven't tired to "force" it yet tho. Just normal play.

I don't know why the Pirates game was so responsive. Maybe the calibration in the beginning is the key to getting good response? Have to check again when I get home from work.
Will we see an iWaggle review soon?
(And while we are talking about reviews. Add some more meat around them. I like how you concentrate on Move implementations in every review, that is always superinteresting, but add some nice couple of minutes of gaming in the end that only talks about the fun or lack of in the games. maybe 60% tech/40% content, or something like that. Otherwise the heavy tech content covers up the overall impression of the game, like what happened with The Fight recently.)

I played some Time Crisis 4 yesterday and it makes my ranking look like this:

1) Pirates
2) Time Crisis 4
3) Razing Storm

While all of them are enjoyably, the Pirates is the most innovative, Time Crisis 4 is the most solid package and has a nice difficulty curve, and Razing Storm is too simple. Every weapon is given to you and you just shoot away with what is given. Maybe the making of the Story mode took away from the arcade mode a bit too much.

Yeah, I'm working on a video as I type this. :)

I agree 100% with your ranking. DeadStorm pirates is the best of the bunch. It feels more Sega-ish than the rest. I mean, reminds me of House of the Dead rather than Time Crisis. The coop is pretty clever too. Having to shoot simultaneously at the same spot to bring down some enemies or obstacles was genius. Same with spinning the wheel. I also like the "Prison escape" or whatever is called mini-game in Razing Storm. FPS mode has lots of issues both technically and conceptually. I'm glad MAG 2.0 came out before this, otherwise I'd get the impression Move sucks at FPS. :lol

:lol @ everyone getting AstroLaded

I'm not sure why you are claiming these are specifically for the PS3. They are not.

It's not quite the simple ... though generally yes, if you get a picture it should be the same.

Features, yes ... bandwidth, no. If you are not using a category 2 cable and attempt to use 3D, you'll get nothing.

either move is such a massive hit in osaka that the shops are all completely sold out of software stock, or they weren't buying them in in the first place. i looked all over the city for sports champions today, nowhere had it! haven't seen any move stuff in stores since i picked up time crisis 2 weeks ago.

Is Shagg the only responsible for updating the OP with info other than what Stumpokapow is taking care of? (Which I understand is the game list - btw, why is EA Sports Active 2.0 there? I missed the Move announcement perhaps)

If not, the iWaggle3D portion of the OP is missing some stuff I'd consider useful like:

The Fight: Lights Out video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TpaOeeNvCI

as well as the four parts of the 3rd party accessories tour. There is no such a list anywhere else on the web as far as I know. Here are the links:

Chapter 1/4 - Guns and Stuff http://www.iwaggle3d.com/2010/10/playstation-move-third-party_17.html
Chapter 2/4 - Swords and Stuff http://www.iwaggle3d.com/2010/10/playstation-move-accessories-swords.html
Chapter 3/4 - Chargers and Stuff http://www.iwaggle3d.com/2010/10/playstation-move-charge-stations.html
Chapter 4/4 - Grips and Stuff http://www.iwaggle3d.com/2010/10/playstation-move-accessories-grips.html

Anyone?

Bought The Shoot + Gun pack today and holy crap the shooting is way better than in Time Crisis.

Played through the first 2 sets, Western one and the robots one.
The game is great, I only wish there was an option to turn off the reticule and the HUD. Game is accurate enough to do without the reticule. Also aim never drifts, like in TC:RS after a while.
Although when you want to go for high scores you do need the reticule, because getting multipliers and special moves all depend on hitting targets without missing, almost impossible without one.

Next time put in a No-HUD-Arcade mode please.:D

All future light-gun games need The Shoot's calibration.

Ugh.

Sports Champions – Reverse Course ($2.99)
Looking for new Disc Golf challenges? Well, you’re in luck! The Sports Champions Reverse Course gives you a fresh look at all 18 holes. Tees and holes have been swapped to create a whole different experience, so you’ll need new strategies to best this course.

Once downloaded, the course will be accessible in the Free Play menu so you can test your skills against the AI or up to 4 friends in multiplayer.
File size: 544 MB

I guess getting new courses or new sports altogether is out of the question...? Really wish the dlc for this game had more substance than what they've been offering so far.

New sports or courses takes time to make. At least they gave us a full 18 and not 6-9. And at least it looks like they didn't hold back a bunch of stuff as DLC. Unlocking everything in there will take me forever as it is.

I'm just smiling after playing Deadstorm Pirates. Great fun! Takes me back to non-cynical childhood days.
I really, really, REALLY need to get The Shoot, but payday is in two weeks and my Visa is almost maxed out. AAAARGH

EDIT: Have to retract my earlier comments about Pirates reticule not drifting. It does, but not as much as Razing Storm did. Maybe due to my sucky calibration or some other issues.

Razing Storm is much more flashy though :lol I also loved the metal intro

I enjoy the shooting in TC4 the most because you actually have to press the trigger (and not hold it) and guns are your standard weapons instead of spamming bullets all over the screen.
Move + reticle doesn't really give me a Lightgun vibe though :/ (and the gun case is annoying for reloading/covering as you have to use both hands. Funny that the old TC game had tons of options to avoid that)

btw. is it possible to do the splitscreen in TC4 horizontally and not vertically? Having two small 4:3 images with lots of space above is possible one of the worst splitscreen implementations I've seen yet. (Razing Storm and Pirates don't have splitscreen as both are viewing the same scene all the time, probably bro-hugging :P )

Is there really no OT for TC?!

Wanted to post two additional TC PAL Home items (each game as Home rewards, though I only got 3 simple T-Shirts so far for starting each game):

R6P6-KMNM-2JE9 for a visor
25FK-EEN4-M8KA for a gun case

So my starter pack came in the mail. Super fast setup. Beat Sketch is a blast with the wife. Great game to play as a warm up. Went ahead and got Tumble as well, very precise. I tried out MAG a bit but it's really hard to get into it after playing with a controller so long. I have Heavy Rain on the shelf but never played it so have no idea how it controls.

The camera can defintely be a little wonky if you switch from standing to sitting, but usually a quick recalibration is all that was needed. Considering the pack was ¥5000 on Amazon for the camera, controller, and game, the value is definitely worth it.

I was going to buy Time Crisis the other night but the guys at Gamestop told me it was a "rental". I know I know "Gamestop olol" but I'm actually cool with this guy and kinda trust his opinion.

The thing is though I'm old enough to have lived through (and loved) the arcade age ... I'm thinking to hell with it I might pick it up anyways.

Opinions?

against rental?

Probably one of the most content-rich lightgun shooters ever due to 3 games etc.

Always nice to have at least one coop-lightgun shooter around if someone visits (though it has online mp as well).

RRP is already cheaper than normal games.

I also don't get the bad reviews btw Bad in comparison to what? TC4? There aren't really many lightgunshooters on the PS3 and this one certainly has the most content&variety and you don't even need to buy extra hardware (that only works for this genre) if you already own Move.

Yep. It's an extremely convenient package. A steal compared to, say, The Shoot. I'm talking content not quality mind you.
