Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

So I've decided to get this for my cousins on a trip to visit them.

What are the best games one could get for this thing and how easy is it to set up?

So far the only ones I see for the age group that looks good is Eyepet. Any other games out and will be out before December?

Got limited knowledge on most Move games, but my 5 and 7 years old nieces love Sports Champions, especially Disc Golf minigame on it. Start the Party had mixed opiniond from them. I do love Time Crisis myself and it would be simple enough for a smaller ones to enjoy too. Pressing trigger and waving according to instructions would not be too hard. EyePet is fun too and they love to dress up the pet and draw in that game.

Thanks for the impressions, I'll be picking this bad boy up in the states next week.

Ok, had another session. First note of business though - I set up my fighter with 23 points for technique, almost nothing for heart and chin, and 10,7 and 6 for strength, speed and stamina. I think the 23 points for technique were a bit much - Trejo mentioned something like 'I see were going for 'experimental' here'. :D

I found out quickly in my second match though in the first set of fights that adding some chin and heart are worth it. Basically you'll want to have at least everything at 10 as soon as possible, and take it from there. After 10, it starts taking more points to upgrade your fighter (first 2 ability points for 1 rating point, then 3, etc.). So I used my ability points to set everything at 10 at least.

This of course invited doing some more practice. This time I went for target practice first, which is the type of sparring you do with someone who has punch gloves for you to bash into, as you've seen in a tonne of boxing flicks. It's actually very good, and should be one of the first things you do to test whether or not you're being tracked right and you understand how to control your fighter. I found out for instance that the way I was hitting my left hook, I was reaching out of the camera range (because I also lean forward a little), which basically broke it. So this exercise quickly got me understanding the limits of my field of view (remember, my 'wing-span' is 2m, and I'm standing at less than 1.6m from the TV with my calves pressed into our couch - I actually placed the camera a little upwards and back behind the TV this time so I could actualy reach out my arms completely which just about fits exactly into the field of view).

So once I got that figured, it was actually pretty easy to do this exercise. For as far as I played it, it asks for uppercuts, forward jabs, and hooks. You don't have to hit them hard, and it doesn't really matter with which arm you for instance manage to hit the glove (the forward jabs are easily reachable with both arms for me). It feels good. So far I'm really digging the exercises. If you get these type of hits down, you can win a fight at least in theory. ;) It's good to be aware of at least these types of hits, though if you want to win a fight you also need to work the body, which not much of the exercises pay attention to so far. It is a fairly easy excercise, so good for earning some ability points too. The first exercise which I tried again also (the punching bag), remains a tough one, though I still enjoy it a lot and the physics on them are cool - I just wish you could play it without a fail-state.

I then (after losing my fight again) proceeded to do the other exercises as well. Endurance asks me to fight one opponent after the other, and is hard to keep up with long enough to score points (at least I couldn't do it after two or three times, but I did at least pass a bunch of rounds after the first attempt). You have to stick close to your fighter you lose, so you're going to track your fighter if he moves away from you. Finally, I went to basic sparring, which is actually good and a place that you should spend some time in - you need to at least be able to take this guy down on default settings, and then you can basically measure your efficiency by how many calories you burnt. For instance, after a few tries I got him down from 29 to 14 calories.

After last fight, for I'm not sure what anymore (but it tells you - I think it's actually for not doing the finishing move on him when he was reeling, which gave me the 'Saint' achievement), I also earned a first 'dirty' move, a hammer fist. Trejo explains how it works, and it's pretty good - however, since you're awarded more for fighting clean, it does make you only want to use it if you're getting desperate (at least for me). Now for the second fight, the setup was different - you start with an 80$ counter, and the faster you beat him, the more of that cash is left for you to take. However, crucially, you also earn cash for hard hits and such - for instance, a hard hit gives you $5. So you usually take enough away from a fight to at least heal yourself and do some more training. On the other hand, each battle you lose takes away rating points and after three losses I was back to zero (so again, exercise early, exercise often).

So when you're preparing for this fight, what's the key thing here is that you time your shots, and spend your energy wisely. Look for a good opportunity and land one or two hits. When he's reeling a little you can get a few more hits in, but your energy for hitting runs out fast enough so you'll want to go back into cover and position. When he's defending his face and or is close to you, go for body blows and if he goes out of cover when he's still close, time for an upper-cut. Most of this stuff makes a lot of sense, though I would have expected perhaps some more training on boxing technique. And I think the earlier you make yourself comfortable with walking and moving (dodging left and right) around, the better.

Also, when you sustain injuries, you have to heal them or pay the price in terms of shorter stamina in the next fight.

Right now this game is not easy. This is not a 'casual' game, unless maybe you're a casual boxer. But so far I'm enjoying it a lot and can heartily recommend it if a game that forces you to really box AND train (training is the only way to improve your stats, after all), it's worth it.

So I managed to win my second fight, and this game me another award that gives me a money boost for winning against players ranked higher, and a silver trophy. This was for beating someone who is ranked more than 50%, so that either means that there's an advantage to losing a bunch of times first (kills your ranking to zero), or perhaps I've picked my second fight unwisely.

I'm going to bed now happily exhausted, and so far the game seems to be what I hoped it would be. Will keep you guys posted if I make more progress this weekend. And if someone wants to try this online, let me know. ;)

Killer app!

here is some good footage that gives you an idea of the atmosphere... I was worried it was a rail shooter only.

Dangerous Hunts 2011 Single Player Off Rails Action

this is the 360 version I believe that you can get bundled with a rifle that looks similar to the Move Rifle...which also has 2 analog sticks.

Just picked up a move bundle and a navigator. Gonna let them charge first while I install these demos.

I went to our walmart on tuesday and noticed that they had 2 bundles, an entire section of ps move controllers, and another one full of navigators. I decided to wait to buy it today and they were all sold out of the stand alone PS move, half of the navigators, and all the ps move bundles were gone. I had to ask and they had 1 bundle left in stock in the back. I was surprised they sold that many. For reference last years COD launch there were maybe 15 people in line for it, needless to say my town isn't big on games. (town of 14k ppl).

yeah I was at BestBuys on Thursday and finally saw some Move controllers...I was ready to buy 2 more (I already have 2) just for The Fight....so I could play against my brother when he comes over...but then I thought that's $100 :D ...so maybe I'll wait alittle bit because my space isn't really huge enough for that type of game....sure we can get some Table Tennis action going on and still be fine....but a fighting game like The Fight????...I don't want to end up like some of the recent Kinect Kids :lol

hopefully I move to a new place soon.

but I was saying though, I'm sure all those Move Controllers at BestBuy are all gone by now...its like I didn't know there were that many folks who are also motion gaming on the PS3...for a second it just seemed like people might be buying these things for something else O_o

Downloading what appears to be 8 separate updates for Pain in order to check out the Move controls.

No doubt there are 8 patches because I haven't played the game for a long time.

Has anyone tried out the Move support for Pain?

The updates for Pain is the reason I haven't downloaded it again to try the Move patch.

Yes. It plays differently. You hold the character with the Trigger and you literally have to toss him towards the environment. No slingshot. You can play with the Move only on selected levels (properly labeled). Watch out for the calibration process. It asks to place the pointer over a target. You don't gave to point the Move there as the on-screen pointer actually reflects the sphere position in the video feed so you have to reach it moving your arm around. Took me a good 2 minutes to figure this out myself :D

Suggestion: do the tutorial.

Still selling out that fast? That is crazy.

Just spent a little over an hour playing MAG with the move.. and I'm uh, reaching the .5 kdr haha. It feels completely different than analogs, I know I can be more accurate with the move it's just transitioning from years of dualshock use to something completely new.

I can already see it working wonderfully for Socom 4 or a TPS like Uncharted/gears.

Actually when downloading this fresh on my new PS3, it actually only had two updates. They were still some 354MB in total, but it's the first time that I actually noticed that a game on the store had some of the earlier patches built in. And I used the original history link from 2007 or whatever it was. I hadn't expected that for Pain in particular with all its DLC, so it was a nice surprise.

I bought Move a couple weeks ago but the camera was faulty and mega loose (returned). Just picked one up tonight and dove in.

I need to say that Gladiator Duel with two Move controllers is such a mind blowing experience.

I can't believe how accurate it is and how badass I feel wielding a shield and sword. I played earlier with a friend with one controller but after she left I dove into two and that's where it really shines. It's so accurate, fun and flat out amazing. Table Tennis and Beach Ball are well done, too, but Gladiator Duel...holy shit. A+.

I picked up The Shoot as well, played for 10 minutes. Nice simple game. I was going to get Black Ops and continue working on my backlog but fuck it! No time for a backlog. I want The Fight, I want more Move games. Immersion overload.

Thanks for the great Time Crisis videos TTP. Very informative as usual. This one looks good and appears to use the move well. I'll be picking this one up for sure.

Beautiful segment as usual TTP! What a pleasure :D

Seems like more than decent rail gun shooter to me.

Was diffident when some online game site began giving it s**t scores.

Watching your video I can't understand why.

Anyway will pick it up as soon as I get the chance to see for myself.

I didn't read any online review. What's the general reason for the low scores?

Is there a consensus on Get Fit With Mel B? Garbage, actually a good program? Reviews say it's good-ish.

Seems like it's more of a companion program than a fitness "game," but I haven't tried it myself. In that sense, it seems like it would work quite well, though. Granted, most of the reviews just seem to go over all the bullet points without detail, but I didn't notice them talking about anything along the lines of mini-games.

Still, want a program with a few neat features, 200+ exercises, and a great ass to look at? Well, there you go.

I sort of agree with the longevity complains but these are arcade games to begin with where you play for getting better scores not to beat them.

I personally think complains about story mode controls are a bit exaggerated. They are not that bad. They are not MAG level, but they are hardly frustrating.

I often wonder if reviewers put a serious effort in understanding the Move controls and getting used to them before expressing an opinion.

Lasting Appeal
When you beat a full-priced retail game in less than an hour, there's a problem.

I read the review and went what the fuck. The replay value of the pack is super high and its like they rate it on 1 playthrough netting it that 3.5 score for lasting appeal.

What a joke. Plus its a game pack with 3 games no? seriously. IGN = joke site.

2 out of 2 bad reviews.

btw, TTP, your video just sold me on the game,

It's actually more than 3 games if you factor in the Razing Storm story mode. I'd say it's 4 with the funny extra Sentry mode on top of it.

lightgun game + 4 games in 1 pack and they score it 3.5 for replayability (not clicking on the link again to give them the hit). With a final score of 4/10 poor.

At least, the game informer one is more measured.

Honestly, what a joke.

Enjoy!

disappointed within a couple of minutes. Not by your videos, they're great as usual. But by the confirmation that move doesn't work well in this game as a lightgun. Relative shooting from the hip is ok but I prefer my lightgun games to use a lightgun. Wonder if I still have my guncon3 in the loft? Was hoping to reduce clutter. Have so many USB dongles attached at the moment.

Any comments on how some of the fps level bits would work with a guncon?

Also, does the 'steering' in the pirates game affect the cursor accuracy? I found with 'the shoot' that other actions like pumping the train, made the cursor drift out of alignment.

Looks like the pirate game is fairly family friendly? No humans shot in it, just skeletons etc?

Why? I'd say 1 million shipped in NA sounds about right, considering they've also shipped over a million to EU and probably half that to JPN. That's about 2.5 million ish world wide? I'd say thats pretty good. No need to flood retail, especially not without a massive ad campaign.

For a month and a half its excellent I would say. Its a peripheral, with limited software out so for what it is it did great. 2.5 worldwide is excellent.

Now if they can push past 5 by the end of the holidays, it will be in a great position to where the install base is sufficient so we can see more and more developers making games for it.

Actually it was for the first 30 days.

PlayStation Moving into Manhattan
I’m stopping by today to pull back the curtain on a new project that we’ve been hard at work on for consumers in the New York area. Opening tomorrow afternoon at 550 Madison in New York City’s Manhattan is the brand new PlayStation Lounge, the only place where you’re guaranteed to get your hands on the all new PlayStation Move motion controller, in addition to PS3’s, PSP’s and the incredible line-up of software that accompanies them.

Cursor accuracy appears to be unaffected by the wheel action. Or maybe it ain't as noticeable as in The Shoot. Anyways it does autofix in The Shoot doesn't it? At least that's what I noticed while playing.

No humans in Deadstorm Pirates. Only skeletons and stuff.

Great vids! I also don't see why this game got such bad reviews when these videos show how fun this game is. What were the reviewers expecting from it? A AAA tactical shooter with deep story and high production values??? WTF honestly at these review sites.

I would love to buy this game but when I tried the demo the controls felt very 'loose' and the cursor was drifting a lot compared to the Shoot demo where controls were a lot tighter and much better. TTP is this fixed or better in the release version? How would you rate the controls vs the shoot?

I consider them about equal to be honest. Since the demos of both actually. I'd need to do a more "scientific" test to give you a straight answer cos I can't really feel much difference.

What I can tell you with some confidence is that in TC sensitivity has to be slightly lower than in The Shoot. I can tell it by the way the pointer reacts when pulling the trigger. In The Shoot (at minimal sensitivity) it shakes much more than in TC.

Was in the supermarket today and decided to pick up a Move gun attachment. It feels really good but the select and start buttons are really stiff, but that's just a minor complaint. Hoping to pick up Time Crisis tomorrow.

What the fudge IGN.

well, different reviewers. Though honestly, I doubt the reviewer of Razing Storm would enjoy ANY (arcade) lightgunshooter if he apparently never had fun at all while playing RS.

opinions, opinions blabla but honestly, there is NO logical reason why RS would be rated that much lower than TC4. Actually, I would personally rate it above TC4 because you get completely different games and not just different modes. (well that and because the arcade mode of TC4 is actually included in RS :lol )

I got The Shoot and it seems like my crosshair drifts to the right about an inch after calibration. If I just hold the Move still I can slowly see it creep over then eventually stop. Is no one else getting that? I've tried both my Moves, though only XMB-recalibrated one of them...

I'm at work now, and just thought to try re-plugging the camera... I will later, but does anyone else have any idea as to what's happening for me? I can tell that I'm always compensating and it's kind of annoying.

Thing is, it's pretty accurate if I ignore the crosshair and just shoot where I think I should... I wish I could just turn it off.

I honestly think IGN just puts scores in a bucket and picks one. 7.5 for Sonic Riders? Wtf?? 3.0 for The fight? and then 8.0 for TC4?

I never thought IGN could get any dumber, but they prove me wrong about every month.

A game released in 2008 wouldn't necessarily get the same score if it was released today, especially if it's a sequel that didn't evolve the series. Not saying that's the case but that would be one logical reason. That was exactly what happened when Crackdown 2 was released.

Man, thanks. Awesome videos, as always. I wasn't sure if to buy the game at a bargain price. After the videos, now I'm even considering to buy it now at full price.

Love your videos because detail every aspect of the Move calibrations, settings and performance in the game.

And also showed and detailed all the features of the game and showed all the improvements and innovations compared to previous titles of the series, which sold me the game.

Far better than all the dumbass typical review. Congratulations!
