Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

EU PSN has the demo for it.

Sweet, so just set up a EU account? (I'm in the US)

And can you share demo's with your US username? Would be cool to have that game under my main account instead of having to log into a different user to play it.

EDIT: And seriously, why the fuck is Sony spreading all these demo's so thin? It's a new peripheral ... give EVERYBODY a chance to play EVERYTHING ... seems such a ass backwards way of doing things.

it's pretty damn awesome, I haven't played more than 2 levels so I can't say if it's worth a purchase, but for 40 bucks it seems like a good value with all the added content.

HMMMMMMMM Wonder if I should borrow my buds copy or get my own

I don't think he means it's too easy in terms of opponents, I think he means in terms of actually hitting the ball. This is where I was dissapointed. You can definitely effect the speed you hit it at, but if you even get near it, it's going to hit it for you. I know you can't have absolute 1:1, but it's not really as close as people are proclaiming. That being said I love it, but Ping Pong would definitely be lower on my list.

For instance, when I go to hit a backhand, before I even get to actually swing my backhand, I hit the ball trying to coming across to set up for the backhand.
try the next level (silver), you'll feel the difference. It's fast enough.

just got done playing the time crisis demo... ehem... it feels rushed. Constantly needs recalibration, even to the point of it stoping the game and demanding that I go through the initial calibration. It is also very very hard to see the pointer. Needless to say I was underwhelmed which is disappointing.

Didn't have any such problems.

man i was really regretting my selling of the wii until i got this, this is fuckin incredible! i can't wait for socom and sorcery!

I got the bundle with Sports Champions at GameStop. Employee was saying some games on the disk Required two Move controllers. Totally untrue. Just optional for some games.

Okay, just went crazy and used all of my leftover gift cards and rewards points at Best Buy to buy the Sports Champions Bundle, an extra Move Controller, 2 Navi controllers, Start the Party (Have a 7 and 5 year old) and The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest. (I know the Navi controllers weren't required, but I know the kids will have an easier time playing co-op Aragorn's quest with them. And I know I will eventually use them for upcoming FPSs).

Picking all of this crap up tonight. So psyched.

Only thing I regret is perhaps not picking up Eyepet instead of Start the Party... Is there an Eyepet demo to try on PSN?

I suck at table tennis I really need to work on it, I haven't played table tennis in over 20 some odd years, awesome game though.

Gladiator duel, why are reviewers hating on this game? this shit is mad fun and tight as fuck. Really strategic game and boy will you sweat.

Bocce is very good also, what can I say.

Right now Gladiator duel has me by the balls and it want let go. I love it and at first I thought nothing of it.

Oh god how did I forget about that... >_<

Think I'll just get the wand/game separately then. Thanks boys.

2 Moves and SC seems to be the way to go. I'll pick up a Nav later down the road when I get a game that needs it (not for a while most likely).

But with 2 Moves you can play all the SC games to their full potential AND play 2 player if you choose.

Well, it's like when you first get the Wii or something. Anybody buying this day 1 isn't going to come in here and say it sucks :lol Most of us knew what we were getting.

I love the Table Tennis game. Played a little bit of Gladiator with 2 Moves, pretty impressed with just how it moves so 1:1. Like in the Tumble demo it's amazing you can just ever so slightly twist the controller and it mimics it onscreen. Honestly THIS is what I was expecting out of the Wii. My only problem is getting it to actually be pointing straight when I'm pointing straight. I'll be pointing it directly at the screen and it's pointing down or up from that. I know it's the "feel" of where you point, but I would like it if it was actually straight on pointing.

I just wish Sorcery was out now ... sucks that we have to wait a couple months to get a game that isn't a minigame compilation or that is already out with patched support (loved RE4 but 5 was meh to me and Heavy Rain just isn't my thing).

Is Echocrhrome II available on the US PSN? I was looking for that demo and couldn't find it earlier.
Unlike the wii move already supports great games and tons more are coming next month and the following months, i doubt we will see anything as close as the wii regreat syndrome.

I can play move sports for months if i can ever calibrate it right again, im starting to think it was the light coming in behind me so im going to tinker with it tonight, i got sucked right into the gladiator game jumping around screaming lines from the movie gladiator.. my girlfriend looked at me like i was a retard, rolled her eyes and went on her farmville.

Yes on Eyepet

I've said it a few times, and I will continue to say it:

Do NOT buy Racquet Sports, the controls are terrible.
I like the demo if only because it gives me a nice blue sphere instead of the pink one. I wish I could change sphere colors a bit. :p

What all demos are available on PSN that support move? including older ps3 games

also what games are out that support move? like RE5, i would look but im at work on a smoke break with a phone that gets 200mb data month and im using it typing this :lol DAMN YOU ATT FOR GETTING RID OF MY UNLIMITED DATA

Seems like the camera below the TV does cause some problems. Archery for example did not feel natural as I was aiming higher than my TV to hit targets. Also Tumble seemed off as I had to aim higher than what it felt like I should. Any way to adjust this?

Having it higher isn't the best option either, but it works better than under.

Flip your TV over.

Can't believe some websites were moaning about the calibration for Sports Champions.

It takes literally a second and happens every 20-30 minutes (possibly longer depending on how much you play each sport).

Its certainly better than wii motion plus recalibration bullshit.

Good god, TV Superstars is shite! Creepy faces and unengaging mini-games, ahoy!

On the bright side, you can have your avatar give stupid looks and give him his own dumb catchphrase. That did make me laugh for awhile.

Edit: Regarding calibration, once you get the motion down, you already know what you're going to do. I actually look forward to it, like I'm pulling off some weird Super Sentai transformation dance before getting into the game.

Up, down, belt. Click, click, click.

What's the deal with WiiM+ calibration? I haven't owned one so this is my first forte into motion gaming. :P

Where'd you guys get the Time Crisis demo? I didn't see it in the North Amerian, Euro or Japanese store. Though it's totally possible I just skipped right past it in the Jpn store :(

New iWaggle3D video is up.

PlayStation Move vs Pointing
Exposed in this new tech analysis are some oddities concerning the PlayStation Move behavior as a pointing device.

Is this the PlayStation Move's Achilles' heel?

Has anyone experienced this?

Disclaimer: I tested 3 different Moves before making this video. And yes, I did the via XMB calibration thing multiple times.

It's on the demo disc I believe.

Again, can you purchase the full version of Eyepets on PSN?

Nope. Only Tumble is.

Ah, thanks. Hopefully gonna grab a Move tomorrow then if they're not sold out. Can't wait for Time Crisis.

Edit: Didn't even know it had a demo disc until I saw it in the OP. Yay~

First a disclaimer that this worked for me, but I can't say that it will do any good for you. Try to lower the inclination of the camera stand a bit... It did wonders for me. Try with different inclinations to try to find the optimal one.

My swapped out move works properly, was definitely a stuck gyro.

Picked up Heavy Rain and have Bowling and Flower on PSN already, prob get RE5 too.

Only had a go on 3 of the demos, table tennis feels great if not perfect, i used to love playing with schoolmates (with the chinese death grip or whatever it's called:D ), need to get the hang of disc golf.

Start the Party is really fun, just pulling a stupid face on your little character and then watching the tutorial is funnier than it should be, i can't see it lasting more than a couple of goes though.

Echochrome seems quite dull, i didn't like the first one either.

Definitely, i fecking hate that word, took me three goes.

That is bizarre. Maybe it's more a tracking/software issue since you didn't get the same results with other games.

Have you tried Sports Champions' menu cursor to see if that works similarly?

Just played around with it. Some quick thoughts and impressions:

My room is obviously not as bright as I think it is, because the picture on games where I see myself and when a game shows you the camera's view when it's calibrating is very noisy, so it must be upping the sensor gain to up the exposure - unless the PSeye I got with the bundle is just broken. It seems to track the motion controller fine with the provided picture though.

Played some of the demo of The Shoot. The "smoothness" option really lets you see how filtering will affect the lag of the reticule as you increase it. It's a fun game I suppose, but I'm not a big fan of anything Western-themed, so the fact that they used that level is a pretty big turn-off to me. I'll probably just wait for Time Crisis, though I haven't tried its demo yet.

Also popped in Sports Champions and tried Archery and Table Tennis. The first thing I notice is all the "tips" that say "Stay back 8 feet from your TV". Yeah, well, sorry, I can only get about 7 feet away and that's with pushing the couch up against the credenza on the back wall - so we'll see how it goes.

Wow, Table Tennis is really hard - and I'm talking about the tutorials. Now, this isn't because of Wii Tennis because I've never played it, I'm just going to have to get used to having to move so much to play a game :lol It's obviously very accurate though, almost to the point of frustration for me, but granted I played through the tutorials and quit.

On to Archery, I really liked Archery. I bought an extra Move wand to go with the bundle, so I was using the 2-move control scheme here. When it works, it works great, but it never seems to track the balls the same twice between two shots. For instance, on one shot having my arms level looking right at the TV gets me level with the ground in the game. The next shot, I have to point like a foot above the TV to get level with the ground, or I have to point a foot below the TV. It's very frustrating when you're playing against an opponent.

Now, my PSeye was below the TV for all of this. I've since moved it above and will try it again, so maybe Archery will like the vantage point better. Eyepet will obviously not like the PSeye that high, but I have no plans to buy it, so that's not really an issue. If it doesn't work any better high I'm going to move it back low because my setup just looks better with it down there.

All in all it's fun and when I get some time next week (going to be out of town for the weekend starting tonight) to really put some time into learning the Sports Championship stuff I'm sure it will be even better.

WiiM+ has to recalibrate aaaaaaalllllllllllllllllll the fucking time. You breath and you got to recal, you move and you have to recal, look at the controller wrong and it has to recal, it is so fucking annoying.

Not to mention, what does this imply against a game like, say, Start the Party where you're encouraged to shake the control around the much in some games, and yet it clearly stays on track due to the augmented reality thing. It could be a software issue.

The answer is very simple: Move uses a Magnetometer and it's gyro's for it's pointing. When you move it around a lot, I assume the gryo's and magnetometer have to attempt to compensate for all that data, and in the process it can occasionally 'get lost'. So, it's two things, a hardware issue and a software issue. Improved software can definitely improve the pointer functionality over time, but where it is right now, fast movements probably confuse the software since the gryos and magnetometer start sending many signals that it has to piece together.

Crakatak187 said:
That's a big issue. It definitely needs a re centering fix.

The Move cursor tripping out even though the move is not moving :lol

:lol yeah. How odd is that?

Both Tumble and Flight Control HD have a re-centering button btw. But that's beyond the point really. The drifting is there, and while you don't really notice when playing normally (as your attention is focused on the on-screen cursor), I wonder what's gonna happen if you get one of those rifle attachments. Can you imagine looking through the iron sights and BAM! where the fuck is the cursor?!?

Amazon (<3) just dropped off my SC bundle, as well as an extra Move. So far I have only played Tumble, installing Time Crisis atm, I am digging this tech that is for sure. Can't wait to play more games.

By the way, had to buy the official charging station since no one had any cheaper 3rd party ones anywhere...very sturdy, feels pricey and holds the moves really well. I like that the charging lights are mostly hidden from view until you get up close, since blinking lights next to my TV drive me crazy. :p

That's my thinking as well. But then again I wonder *why* augmented reality works fine. Perhaps some pointing games use "less sphere" for tracking and rely mostly on the gyros/magnetometer? Why are MAG or RE5 free from this issue?

Start the Party uses the accel and gyro information to chart the angle probably only in order to do the graphic overlay properly. I'm rather certain the positional information relative to what's on screen (ie. is the end of your wand close enough to a bug to consider it a hit) is probably all done with the camera and the glowing ball, I'm not sure the actual angle of the graphics overlay affects hit detection all that much.

It seems pretty certain that anything that's a pointer probably uses mainly the accel and gyro measurements rather than actually tracking the ball via the camera all that much. Also, the angular measurements have to be translated into coordinates onto the 2D plane of the screen, which would exaggerate any error after the math is done for that. Therefore, Start the Party's use of the angle information may not be as prone to error as when using the same information for a pointer on the screen.

In about 50 hours of Wii Sports Resort and Tiger Woods 2011, I've never once had this issue. I think something may be wrong with your Motion+.
