Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

the only demo i'm having problems with is TV superstars

i cannot get past the calibration screen.

everything else has been practically flawless though.

The hell.. Playing gladiators I was sweating like crazy about 15 mins into it. No one said it would make me hurt all over :D

I love mah move so far.

I love the move. RE5:gold is basically the Wii-make all over again for me.

Sport Champions just screams online. Gladiators really impressed me.

The only problem I have with Gladiators is that it seems very finicky about recognizing simultaneous presses of the two Move Buttons (using two moves here, obviously) so I'm frequently doing side dodges when I really want to do a back step. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm getting really tempted to get one and I don't even know why. I'm supposed to be a motion-gaming hater... Quick, someone talk me out of it :P

I was pretty much in the same boat, but I'm glad I got one.

Hey don't you want to join the party? Don't you want to talk about the latest thing with all the cool people? Don't you feel left out?

I was too. Have played wii at friends places and thought it was the dumbest thing. The thing I like about move is:

a) there is actual skill involved in the game due to accuracy of the move. Sports champions is not like wii sports where the game plays for you or spazzes out. Go play a round of gladiator match or table tennis and you will see a clear difference.

b) games dont look like ass on the hdtv like wii games do.

c) It will be supported in the games I will play like lbp2, killzone 3, socom, etc and not just party minigame type cutesy stuff.

d) The fight has online multiplayer. You will finally get to kick the ass of the gaffers you dont like.

I think move will be a good success for sony. And hopefully as a result we will see some good implementation of the tech and not a barrage of minigame shovelware like wii.

A friend of mine lent me Sports Champions. It's really good! I should have bought it instead of Start the Party. Don't get me wrong, Start the Party is really fun and I love the augmented reality stuff. But the game shines with multiplayer and I don't have many friends come over here too often to give it use, unless I play with my mom :lol (who loves the game btw)

I really hope Eyedentify resumes development with Move support as it was too experimenting with augmented reality.

On the other hand, Sports Champions shines on single and multiplayer. It's awesome and very engaging (looking at you Table Tennis and Gladiator Duel.) If it only had online it would be a killer-app in my opinion.

My least played games are Disc Golf and Bocce which are slower games and so I like them more in multiplayer, although the AI's provide a nice challenge, the thing is you can't shit talk to them x)

Archery is cool, especially with two Moves. The gestures add a lot to it and provides a nice change of pace compared to the others, not as demanding physically as Gladiator Duel and Table Tennis, and not as slow as the above games.

Beach Volleyball
is the one that impressed me the most as I expected to be the weakest one. It's actually pretty fun. I frowned upon it when I saw auto movement, but as in real volleyball, what matters the most is your technique.
I consider myself a pretty decent volleyball player in real life and the game really showed my quirks. I suck at Passing but I am strong in Spiking and Serving.

I shit you not GAF, as I recalled the training sessions I had with my school team about Serving I decide to open up my hand ( I held the Move only with my tumb against my palm) like I would in real life to give it power and the next thing I saw was a flaming ball. And it worked every single time. That really impressed me.

Table Tennis was my most expected game from Sports Champions, I really hyped it to everyone around me, and not of them and me were disappointed.
As in Beach Volleyball, your previous experience with the sport is of great use in here. Again, I consider myself a decent player in real life and was able to direct most of my shots and use Top Spin at will.
The handholding in Bronze level is ridiculous. It doesn't ruin the game but it can get in the way if you want to do more elaborate moves. I had tonnes of fun and I expect it to be even more awesome at Gold level.
The only thing lacking here is 3D support. I don't have a 3DTV but I'm pretty sure Table Tennis would be perfect with it.

And what can I say about Gladiator Duel which hasn't been said before? It's right up there on my most played games and in multiplayer it gets superfun. I wouldn't want to play it with only one Move as having two really draws me into the game. It works with one but it's awesome with two.

What I also noticed was the variety in the game. Sure you have a couple of different stages and increasing AI skill, but you also have Challenges in between. They are a great distraction. Archery was the one who most impressed me with variety. I was shooting at watermelons, sacks of coins, at a target with wheels to push it against my opponent and Tic-Tac-Toe! Yeah, Tic-Tac-Toe! It's awesome!
I hope that the variety remains at Silver and Gold levels.

Can't wait for the DLC.

On another subject I'm really pissed at the way some reviewers are talking about this game.

First was Kotaku, they had an extensive Move coverage and still Brian Crescente couldn't notice that during Table Tennis he had calibration problems. The way it behaved there didn't happen a single time during my playtrough.

And then another journalist on the webs (can't recall who) claimed it wasn't possible to adjust power in Archery. Yeah you can! The game doesn't expect you to do it but you can!

Couldn't these guys looked at other reviewers/people playing and realize they were doing it wrong?

Thank god there's someone like TTP who really knows how to review Move games.

Rant over. And with this I end my longest post at GAF yet. I hope someone reads it :lol

PS: Someone make an OT for Flight Control HD as I think it will be ignored by some and it really deserves it.

Tennis, boxing and pole vault.

Virtua Tennis 4, The Fight, and... purchase Kinect + Kinect Sports? =P How would pole vault even work? I'm still clueless on how it works on Kinect.

i hope they add more obscure sports. Something like curling or something. :lol

No kidding, the game really rewards winding your arm back and hitting your opponent with full force. I got a critical in one match that took out about 1/3 of their health.

Geez, isn't Bocce obscure enough?!

I could see Curling in some Winter Sports Champions package or something, though (and Skiing -- you'd actually have to pump your Moves behind you to get moving).

i don't think there's any other way export the photo other than uploading it to facebook.

you can save the victory poses in game and they will appear within that particular cup's opponent select screen (press square to view) but there's no way to export it.

Stick handling, shooting and deking with the Move in hockey would be super fun. Too bad we'll have to wait till next season for EA to implement it.

Holy Shit Sports Champions is fun!!! Been playing and sweating for hours. :lol the accuracy is awesome, really feel in control of the movements and not like I am doing simple gestures. Love how in Gladiators you have to swing hard to get big hits. This thing is the real deal.

Oh, I forgot to mention. Bless the souls that created the squishy ball. Had it been solid, 2 Moves would be dead today and my arm bruised.

Gladiator Duel gets really intense during multiplayer :D

Kind of pointless to even make one at this point. It's been discussed fairly in depth in this thread anyway.

I really think their is much too say about sports champions. I firmly believe that the reviewers never gave the game a chance. I think frustration killed their hope. 1:1 is a concept in video games that we are not used to, and it can be frustrating to know you really suck and have to work at something to get good. Video games never had to deal with the concept of you're only as good as what you put into it, dare I say Garbage in, Garbage out. This is a new concept to video games, the training wheels are off and for the most part, I'm speaking of sports champions no wheels, no clue. It really is frustrating to focus on "YOU", and its easy to blame the tools.

I want to take this time to thank Dr. Marks and his team for an outstanding job. I really appreciate your hard work.

There have been three separate instances where I would've totally destroyed one of my controllers. Damn these low ceilings!

Everybody laughed at the ball when they first saw it, but it's awesome. I could stare at it all day!

I'm addicted to table tennis and frisbee. I can throw wicked flaming backhands with massive topspin but when the CPU returns it I can't recover in time. They should add fencing and boxing. I'll happily pay for those two sports, love it for now.

So what color is the ball for you guys in most games as 1 player?

Typically mine is either purple-ish or pink. That's with Sports Champions and Tumble.

My walls are white in my room, and my lighting is kinda yellow.

Also, I notice the ball is kind of a dust magnet, or at least it's easy to see the fuzz and dust that collect to it due to the bright color.

I don't understand why the pointer in Sports Champion's menu feels so much better than the pointers in the Shoot and Time Crisis and... well, every other game.
What's wrong with the pointer in The Shoot? I thought it was pretty much perfect, and a poster child with how good Move is with this kind of thing. No perceptible lag at all, so intuitive to aim, never drifted or desynced. Pointer in Sports champions menu is fine, but it's definitely a bit laggier than in the Shoot (you can make it laggy like that in Shoot as well if you increase pointer smoothing in options menu).

With the number of people on this thread with purple/pink MOVE balls, I think it's safe to assume that it's the default colour for the first MOVE controller.

That said, the option to pick the default ball colour from the XMB menu would be great though :D

What I don't understand is... I thought that it was confirmed that the Move color is based on your surroundings, but now it just seems like purple/pink is the standard.

On a side note. I LOVE how as Tumble is initially booting up, the controller cycles through all possible colors. It's amazing.

It probably depends on the devs to pick whatever colour they want.

My photos come out pretty grainy like that too. Is it the lighting or the quality of the camera?

I wonder if turning on the cross color reduction filter will improve the image. Though that might only be for output not input.

So true.

Is Gladiator fun with only 1 Move? And how does it work?

Gladiator IS fun with only 1 Move. When you just swing the Move around, without holding any button, you are controlling your weapon. When you want to block or use the shield, you hold the T-trigger, then use the Move the way you need to. It's entirely playable with only one Move but truthfully it is significantly better with two.

Foo. I've got the TV in the living room with cables running through the wall to the PS3 in the server room.

I'm going to have to figure out how to pull a USB cable through the wall between the rooms if I'm going to get to Move.

I'm going to have to not play tomorrow for recovery. My right shoulder is pretty darn sore. It's the smashes in table tennis and the jumping strike in Gladiator that are doing me in. The spiking in volleyball doesn't help either...
