A friend of mine lent me Sports Champions. It's really good! I should have bought it instead of Start the Party. Don't get me wrong, Start the Party is really fun and I love the augmented reality stuff. But the game shines with multiplayer and I don't have many friends come over here too often to give it use, unless I play with my mom :lol (who loves the game btw)
I really hope Eyedentify resumes development with Move support as it was too experimenting with augmented reality.
On the other hand, Sports Champions shines on single and multiplayer. It's awesome and very engaging (looking at you Table Tennis and Gladiator Duel.) If it only had online it would be a killer-app in my opinion.
My least played games are Disc Golf and Bocce which are slower games and so I like them more in multiplayer, although the AI's provide a nice challenge, the thing is you can't shit talk to them x)
Archery is cool, especially with two Moves. The gestures add a lot to it and provides a nice change of pace compared to the others, not as demanding physically as Gladiator Duel and Table Tennis, and not as slow as the above games.
Beach Volleyball is the one that impressed me the most as I expected to be the weakest one. It's actually pretty fun. I frowned upon it when I saw auto movement, but as in real volleyball, what matters the most is your technique.
I consider myself a pretty decent volleyball player in real life and the game really showed my quirks. I suck at Passing but I am strong in Spiking and Serving.
I shit you not GAF, as I recalled the training sessions I had with my school team about Serving I decide to open up my hand ( I held the Move only with my tumb against my palm) like I would in real life to give it power and the next thing I saw was a flaming ball. And it worked every single time. That really impressed me.
Table Tennis was my most expected game from Sports Champions, I really hyped it to everyone around me, and not of them and me were disappointed.
As in Beach Volleyball, your previous experience with the sport is of great use in here. Again, I consider myself a decent player in real life and was able to direct most of my shots and use Top Spin at will.
The handholding in Bronze level is ridiculous. It doesn't ruin the game but it can get in the way if you want to do more elaborate moves. I had tonnes of fun and I expect it to be even more awesome at Gold level.
The only thing lacking here is 3D support. I don't have a 3DTV but I'm pretty sure Table Tennis would be perfect with it.
And what can I say about Gladiator Duel which hasn't been said before? It's right up there on my most played games and in multiplayer it gets superfun. I wouldn't want to play it with only one Move as having two really draws me into the game. It works with one but it's awesome with two.
What I also noticed was the variety in the game. Sure you have a couple of different stages and increasing AI skill, but you also have Challenges in between. They are a great distraction. Archery was the one who most impressed me with variety. I was shooting at watermelons, sacks of coins, at a target with wheels to push it against my opponent and Tic-Tac-Toe! Yeah, Tic-Tac-Toe! It's awesome!
I hope that the variety remains at Silver and Gold levels.
Can't wait for the DLC.
On another subject I'm really pissed at the way some reviewers are talking about this game.
First was Kotaku, they had an extensive Move coverage and still Brian Crescente couldn't notice that during Table Tennis he had calibration problems. The way it behaved there didn't happen a single time during my playtrough.
And then another journalist on the webs (can't recall who) claimed it wasn't possible to adjust power in Archery. Yeah you can! The game doesn't expect you to do it but you can!
Couldn't these guys looked at other reviewers/people playing and realize they were doing it wrong?
Thank god there's someone like TTP who really knows how to review Move games.
Rant over. And with this I end my longest post at GAF yet. I hope someone reads it :lol
PS: Someone make an OT for Flight Control HD as I think it will be ignored by some and it really deserves it.
