Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

Yeah, I'd like some workout game impressions too. Any of those out? I'm trying to justify Move right now, and if it had some good workout games it would be easier, because I had already sold my wife on Kinect (which I pre-ordered) but now I want to get Move since its out. :D

Games like Sports Champions Gladiator are a workout for sure.

Its about like shadow boxing for an hour if you play for an hour (which is a great workout) but with a lot of fun involved.

That's not really a bad thing. When I replayed RE5gold (pre move), I had a blast and I went from thinking its a 6.5/10 (I hated it) game to a 9/10 game. The DLC+the versus/merc modes are great fun.

It's not that I hate the game. I don't mind re-playing it that much. I just prefer to go straight to the extras. Like I do with DVD's of movies I've already seen.

At TGS if you played any Move title the boothbabe gave you a Move demo disc, this is such a tease considering the Move isn't released in Japan until October 21st. It's just sitting there starring at me...I wanna play some Big 3 Shooting(Time Crisis) and Ape Escape. :(
It does have a few trailers on it I think. But you're right, it's stupid, especially since all Move bundles will come with the same demo disc at launch :lol

I never cared for Wii Waggle but I am surprised how much I like Sports Champion and Start the Party.

If only the controllers wouldn't be that expensive. I really want an "advanced starter pack" with 2nd move controller, navigation controller and cradle - and not for > 100€

send it to me, I want to play ape escape and time crisis. I'll install and post it back before move is out.

fuck it, I'll send you a move too if you want*.

I grabbed a couple of those at TGS, if you really want to try it I can send one to you. Just paypal me whatever is the shipping from Japan to where you live.

Maybe I can send it to mrklaw, and then he would send it to you, and by repeating this we could share it with everyone else on GAF :lol

Great video! I'm only up to Zone 3 (SC eating all my time).. But, I had no idea that those blue cylinders were sticky blocks.:lol Good stuff.

No. Blue cylinders are not sticky. The green jelly-like cubes are ;)

I am really impressed with the Move tech so far only kind of weak point being the camera, but an HD cam would have made it much more expensive I guess. I think Sony could actually use the Move controllers for PS4, but just upgrade to a high quality HD cam. Not saying they will do that but they could.

Is MS Kinect using an HD camera? I never heard whether they were or not.
I would guess so considering it is much more dependant on the camera for accuracy.

thoughts:

tumble demo - ok.. move functionality seems decent enough, but I wouldn't pick something like this up for the Wii, I am pretty much not going to pick it up for the PS3. Polished enough though.

sports champions demo - yes I only have the demo for this. I already had a PS Eye from Eye of Judgment, so I am trying out some demos before I commit to anything. Have to say that table tennis is hard, but not frustratingly so.. control on table tennis is amazing. disc golf isn't quite as impressive as table tennis, but again it really shows that Move at least seems every bit as capable as Motion+

heavy rain - beat this back in Feb.. haven't put it in since. Put it back in to mess with the motion stuff... ummm.. implemented extremely well, but really still the same game. I am going to mess with this a bit more chapter by chapter (basically the chapters with good fights, and the umm... "interesting" scenes) to give it a good working through, but I can't see this alone as a compelling enough reason to replay through the game.

basically echoing the sentiments of a lot of people here. Great tech, excellent way to bring motion controls to PS3 while still allowing for AR stuff that the Wii can't do.. overall just a top notch product at a great price. however, completely lacking in software. Very anxious for Time Crisis (love gun games... would REBUY HOTD:Overkill FOR PS3!!!!!) and The Fight, and of course Killzone 3. Passed on Killzone 2 (and plenty of other console shooters) simply because of dual analog.. if they can take what developers and gamers have learned on the Wii about FPS pointer controls and apply that to KZ3, I'm there day 1.

according to the spec sheets, no.. it's two cameras.. a 32-bit VGA camera for color information and a 16-bit 1/2VGA camera for depth info. that actually puts the VGA camera on par with the PS Eye in terms of specs, so the real question in terms of quality is how well will Kinect handle low light situations (the PS Eye's biggest achilles heel)

Kinect VGA camera isn't 60Hz. And doesn't track bodies at 640x480 (320x240 is the resolution when doing body tracking).

Low light situations don't matter much with both tech as Kinect uses IR while the PSEye tracks a light source (the sphere).

Basically:
Kinect - Full body tracking at 320x240/30hz
PSEye - Sphere tracking at 640x480/60hz

yeah but why get used to something, if its better in its original form? i think the game is worth buying, but absolutely not for move controls.

I disagree, the combat and movements are considerably more fluid with Move and make sense, as opposed to arbitrarily moving around an analog stick.

This game is looking epic.

I don't know why... but the fact that the golfer is wearing those ridiculous pair of pants and is some daggy old fart... is not inspiring. I mean, you're making a videogame. At least have a cool looking avatar.

Don't really care about what they are wearing, I'm looking at the "MOVE" mechanics from the gametrailers video for the long game and the youtube clip for the short game is masterful.

These are great tutorials, based on real world golf.

Any objections against 3rd party charging stations? I usually buy the Sony stuff, but I like the extra Sixaxis connector of this one:

Yesss, a highly anticipated game. Hopefully it makes VERY good use of the move. That's actually a big reason why I got a move to begin with, so that I can play a decent golf game with it. So far everything I've seen about this game is positive, but thats what I thought about tiger woods as well. It's very hard to tell unless you have the game in your hands. I do love the first person view when hitting the ball. nice touch.

Also, here is the giant bomb's quick-look:

The Eye performs much better than all $40 webcams in low light, people just expect too much from a low cost solution. I bet Kenict's RGB camera does worse in low light.

"Kenict" tracks your body with an IR array. It doesn't give a shit about light.

The Eye has some problems with light sources that seem entirely random sometimes.. as a Eye of Judgement player who has had three lamps shining right on it just to have one random square not detect unless you tap the light to change (not increase or decrease, just move) the light "scape"... sure, most webcams also suck with light, but Eye really needed it (although move sort of solves it anyway)

He's comparing an RGB Camera (PS Eye) with an RBG Camera (Kinect). Kinect also has an IR Camera, but he isn't comparing those. He's comparing their RGB components. So, in short, yes, Kinects RGB Camera most certainly does give a shit about light.

Failing it being a critical disaster, Tiger Woods is being traded in for this shit day 1.

Speaking of Day 1, when exactly would that be, anyone?

But Kinect doesn't rely on it's RGB camera to work, it is used for taking pictures and video. Worst case scenario is the game plays as it always will and should with the depth sensor, and your pictures come out dark at the end of the game. Thus far I don't think there is any Augmented Reality type Kinect game that requires the RGB camera to function as a game.

LOL Yea. That Tiger woods demo was HORRIBLE.:lol

If you need your Move/Golf fix, get Planet MiniGolf. Work sperfect.

Got my second Move controller in the mail today. Tried out Tumble with dual controllers but it was hard as hell. :lol

Sports Champions was noticeably enchanced, especially the Gladiator Duel. Great fun!

I'm contemplating getting Start the Party but the lighting really has me worried. It seems like the augmented reality stuff would look pretty horrible if I didn't have just the right amount of lighting.

Are there settings within the game or is it watcha-see-is-watcha-get with the rest of the time I see my picture?

Isn't it just supposed to look like John Daly?

One of the comments on that video said that the game looked too much 'on rails'. WTF were they expecting from a golf game. Do you want to have to walk your character with the Navicon between shots?

It does a great job of auto adjusting for lighting. Look at iWaggle3D's light test video.

If only the morons didn't disable the move functionality in the demo, I might have gave it a chance.

The demo was updated with Move controls. It was a few days after Move was out so some people may have gotten the old demo.

Minigolf's no good for me. It's all about motion golfing with my dad, and he'd only be into the proper sport.

Playing Tiger with him was a fucking disaster.

"Tap the Move button to aim, dad"
"The big one on the front"
"No TAP it"
"Quicker"
"Ok. Now aim your shot"
"It's the T button"
"The trigger"
"On the back"
"You have to point it at the screen"
"No, before you press the button."
"Ok, stop."
"Right, tap the Move button"
"Now point at the screen"
"Now press the trigger"
"There, now aim"
"Just point where you want to move the aimer"
"No don't move the controller about. Keep it in the same place and point."
"No, POINT."
"Like this."
"No you weren't, you were moving it about"
"Is that you done aiming?"
"Right, tap the Move button again"
"That it. Now do your swing"
"Stand like you were playing golf and point the controller down."
"Okay, now press the T button and then swing"
"You swung too early. Keep an eye on the screen and wait for it to tell you to swing."
"I don't know. It takes a few seconds. It's bullshit."
"Ok, that's it, you can swing now."
"No, you have to hold the trigger"
"Yes. Try again."
"What's wrong now?"
"Are you pressing the trigger?"
"No, you have to let go of it first."
"Now point it down."
"Press the trigger"
"WAIT. Jesus Christ!"
"Point it down"
"Press the trigger, DON'T SWING. DO NOT SWING"
"Ok, now swing"
"Thank fuck."
"...It's still your shot."

I downloaded mine via the ps3 store, either yesterday or the day before .... when I try and star a game it tells me that move support is only in the full version.

Edit: A-ha!!

"I might be going out on a limb here, but it sounds like people want to see the Move gameplay in the demo. We’ll see what we can do. I apologize if the labeling was confusing – we did not intend for it be categorized as a Move-enabled demo."

From a dev on the comments.

It apparently controls menus with Move but not gameplay right now.

yeah. me too. I'm not going to spend money on this thing on the offchance it controls well.

um, yeah. If it weren't for this Move thing. I think interest in their title would have flatlined. If they fix it soon, great. I don't see how difficult it'd be to enable a demo with move controls working.
