Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

Are any of the following games with a worth a damn?

* EyePet
* The Shoot
* TV Superstars
* Kung Fu Rider
* Start the Party
* Slingstar Dance
* Get Fit with Mel B
* High Velocity Bowling
* The Fight LIghts Out
* SlingStar Dance Party Pack

I noticed on slickdeals Sony is giving away one of these games when you purchase a starter bundle. None of the reviews are encouraging.

Here is my feedback. The Move just doesn't have enough content yet to warrant a purchase, but being the motion whore that I am let my empty wallet help.

* EyePet - Nope. Excellent concept but it just doesn't click.
* The Shoot Great arcade shooter, my favorite Move game yet.
* TV Superstars This is great at parties
* Kung Fu Rider Just download the demo... you'll get the idea... meh.
* Start the Party Was the kids favorite at first, but wore out it's welcome quick
* Slingstar Dance Do you like SingStar? Then this is a no brainer. The dance portion is a bit weak.
* Get Fit with Mel B ?
* High Velocity Bowling ?
* The Fight LIghts Out THE WORST MOVE GAME EVER.

As for High Velocity Bowling I can tell you that it actually plays BETTER with a Sixaxis than with the Move controller. If you're expecting a beefed up Wii Sports style bowling game you'll be disappointed.

I can definitely concur that the Shoot is awesome, and it's quite a bit deeper than you'd expect from a light gun game. The singing portion of Singstar Dance is great, but after playing Dance Central, the dancing portion is extremely underwhelming.

I think Move warrants a purchase. Archery, Disc Golf and Gladiator Dual alone (Sport Champions and experienced with two Move controllers) is enough of a "holy shit" moment to make it worth it. SC has a good singleplayer system so that it lasts a while and you'll want to revisit it. If someone asked "Is Move worth it? Show me with games released in 30 minutes" I'd throw Sports Champions, The Shoot, Tumble, Echochrome 2, Mag and Funky Lab Rat at them.

The Shoot is a fun gun game. It's a little repetitive but that comes with the genre I suppose. The Shoot is solid, has some nice design/stages and good Move implementation. It shines with the power ups which require actions like shooting the sky or spinning around to slow down time. Kung Fu Rider is interesting to experience but I don't think it's worth the money. Start The Party is fun for socializing but not to play alone as a game you judge and pass the time with. Get Fit with Mel B is actually good if you're looking for exercise, same goes for The Fight (which is more of a bunch of training exercise minigames disguised in a fighting game package. You have to do a lot of training to level up your skills before your fighter is good enough to not be frustrating in matches).

The Fight has been a bit controversial. It's thread is full of people who love it and I've spent a lot of time with it and enjoy it but see the flaws/frustration. It has some calibration issues (head tracking will basically never work, but it's off by default and leaning works with the controller well) and I think most of the issue is most people expect to jump in and have a 1:1 arcade experience when it has RPG/exercise elements...at first you're a 1 in everything and have low stamina so your fighter doesn't go all out like you do. You have to train and level up.

Lastly, Singstar Dance is very good imo. It's flaw is that it doesn't show you the move coming up next in flashcards like Dance Central, instead you do what the fullspeed dancer does. As you play the songs a few times you eventually get on point and it can be really enjoyable and satisfying but if you don't like dancing then it may not be worth the time it takes to become great. Family and friends have still had fun with it at parties but unlike Start The Party, Singstar Dance is more of a "practice and perfect solo" game. The singing is what you'd expect.

I'd say The Shoot and The Fight are solid picks leaning more to The Shoot.

Me too. Even if there is a size limit or whatever, it would be fantastic. I think the sharing online though makes it an issue (trademarks and whatnot).

That said, to Pocorn's question above:

If for adults:

HVB is excellent bowling just better with DS3 than Move.
The Shoot is a great lightgun shooter style game. Very worth it.
Singstar is great although the singing is far better than the dancing bits, it is Singstar after all.
Start the Party has neat augmented reality things to do at a party. Colorful so people are instantly hooked although its not a lasting experience.

Now if we talk kids as well:
Add EyePet, my nieces spent hours last week combing the little monkey and they got a PS3 bundle for Xmas as a result. :lol

I have not tried the other games so I couldnt tell you.

But the star of the whole thing is Sports Champions in the bundle. Kids and adults love the thing in my experience.

I know not everyone with Move has (or likes) The Fight but I made a commented fight replay video (with iMovie) which really showcases how well the game functions and how the replays can be fun to watch. I wanted to provide some direct tangible evidence about the game. If someone gives you grief that the game "doesn't work" please kindly give them this link with the word "bullshit" attached.

Yep and its is great!It took a little getting used to at first but now its so good.

Why the frick is it so damn hard to find standalone wands? Trying to get some Move going for my New Year's party and I already have an Eye, I just wanna grab 2 standalones and Sports Champions seperately.

HEY! Stop bad mouthing The Fight Lights Out or I'll send some boys over to your house and "educate" you on the subject.

While there are certainly people that will (sadly) never enjoy The Fight... For everyone else its full of win awesome root beer fun.

My girlfriend for instance has no interest in how it feels to throw a right hook into someone's (simulated) head.

Me: Babe look! It lets you actually corner people and unload on their heads!
Her: ... ... When is LittleBigPlanet 2 coming out?
Me: There's a cool replay mode too. I can study what I did wrong and become better.
Her: ... ... (Tries playing The Fight using girly scratch your face motions. Wins match.)
Me: Don't do that! That's not how you punch.
Her: Stupid game.
Me: Go play Peggle and quit finding exploits in my games.
Her: I love peggle!

Personally I like Lights out.. its not the greatest game out but it does work and you do feel the workout. not because your actually moving but because you have to actually move correctly as if actually fighting. Its like a true boxing sim.

Like you said, its a love it or hate it relationship.

I really hated Gameinformers remarks about it, they fave it a 6.5/10 I think, they knocked of some points for repetitive gameplay? repetitive gameplay? What were they expecting? to reach level 6 and pull out a wand that shoots lightning into the opponents eyes? Its a fighting game.. shouldn't they knock off points for fight night for repetitive gameplay as well?

its funny but even doing target practice for a while makes me sweat. You're all there tense in a stance concentrating waiting for the next target.

:lol at UntoldDream's post, I know exactly what you mean.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I decided to not buy Move for now and wait for a better sale. My backlog is pretty big right now.

I haven't played either, but I suspect fight night has considerably more depth.

I could see Funky Lab Rat being fun, but the calibration in it was weird. I didn't like that you had to put the orb RIGHT in the middle of the screen. It just feels like a poor design choice, otherwise the game would be a purchase for me.

I also think Blokus could be more interesting with the Move if they didn't have such a funky button configuration. It's a lot of fun with the DS3 (and quick for moving) but there are some dubious choices made for moving the pieces around. At least with 2 DS3s and 2 Moves we can have 4 players.

I don't see that as an issue at all...you put the Move controller in the circle in the middle of the screen to calibrate for a second and then play normally. It was a little weird that I had to hit select instead of the motion button but I can't possibly see how that could be a deal breaker. I don't have to hold my arm in the middle of the screen or anything during gameplay. Why is that a big issue for you? I don't understand.

There's a snowball's chance in hell of a "motion-simulation game" like The Fight beating out something like Punch-Out or Fight Night.

You can't even play The Fight for too long without getting physically exhausted and the "depth" of the game comes from appreciation of your own skill development.

The Fight: Wow! I really increased my stamina I can punch faster and stronger now!

Fight Night: Hey I unlocked Muhammad Ali! I'm the greatest. (pushes punch button)

Punch Out: I'm awesome at this game! (joystick down up down up PUNCH button)

COD is popular but if we really had to carry rifles around and SPRINT to play I'm sure the reviewers out there would give it -1/10 as a score.

I take back what I said about Time Crisis -- it's a great lightgun shooter package. I'm kind of in love with Deadstorm Pirates.

My daughter is so adicted to the Eyepet right now, I had to get her teh MOVE and that game for Christmas; I need to get my TV back!

On question though, I'm getting a really crappy rez out of the camera when she is playing, do I need to add more light, or is there a way to adjust the rez you see?

More light REALLY helps the video quality, but no, there's nothin' you can do to increase res. Check out the camera feed in the XMB for the best possible quality.

Also, make sure you don't turn up the lights AFTER you calibrate, as the camera won't take this into consideration unless you recalibrate, and leave you with a poorly balanced picture. (maybe eyepet handles this better than STP)

And make sure you have the lens set to the Blue setting.

Its the light. With poorlight it looks terrible, but I figured out a nice light setup and it looks pretty decent. Like a whole new camera.

Should I use a backlighting, or a spotlight on the comera?

A single source in the back would probably cause the camera to calibrate on the dark side. You really shouldn't have to make any special adjustments. Just make sure your subject is well lit. I guess just play around with it in the XMB viewer.

If you're mostly just using EyePet right now, it really shouldn't be a problem at all since it's pointing at the floor. Is there a Start the Party demo?

Cornbread78 said:

I found that even lighting is best. I have two floor lamps on either side of the TV and sort of behind, then two side lamps and the ceiling light on max. It creates a very even bright light room which works well.

As above, use the XMB video feed ( I use video chat with myself) to check on how it looks. And do it before calibration otherwise it struggles and makes it look even worse. Or recalibrate.

Beat Sketcher also does that. You can import a picture full screen/res.

Didn't see it mentioned but there's demos for:

new Ape Escape thingy
RE5: Move Edtion
Big 3 Shooting

On the Japanese store.

Seriously you guys have to try out the Ape Escape demo. 60fps and super-responsive, real showcase for the tech.

So buying this game now.

Tell me more! Really they had me at SKELETAL PIRATES, but I never saw the arcade game and don't want any spoilers from YouTubing it.

Can you use the navi with RE: Gold? Cause you can't seem to in the JP demo. Rather awkward using the DS.

BTW has ANYONE finished the classic set in Auditorium? I'm specifially wanting to know how the F you do the very last level. I've tried using youtube vids but for some reason it doesn't work for me on the PSN version. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I've bloody done all the rest but this last level isn't happening :(

The Fight is awesome provided you can calibrate it.

The Fight's so open that the game's depth really depends on what you put into it. Besides, you fight Bruce Lee at the end.

if you could only buy one move game at the moment what would it be?
Personally I would say MAG (from the PS Store).
There are cleaner implementations around like Sports Champions and Time Crisis but MAG is a deep game of my liking with a great implementation (scoped sniping mode is a no go with Move though which is the main blemish because they haven't bothered making it free form but hip shooting and crosshair is Great).

MAG
Time Crisis
Sports Champions

DL-only title:
Tumble

I'm surprised that you can't use the navi in that demo (which I haven't tried btw), because the navi works with pretty much every PS3 game imaginable. It's always recognised as a DS, it's just that it's useless because of the lack of buttons. You must have messed up somewhere. And to answer you question, the navi works with RE Gold.

Maybe it's because I started the game before I turned the navi on?! Still the aiming seemed quite good with the Move. Not that I'd bother to buy the game again but it was nice to see how it played with Move.

Random but I appreciate that Sony enabled dualshock + move controller if you don't have a stand alone Move navigation controller. It's not super comfortable but I lean it on my lap and it works well for MAG and Funky Lab Rat. I went to buy a navigation controller today but decided against it - at least for now.

The nav feels absolutely brilliant though. I love it. The thumb stick feels much more rigid than on a DS3 and it fits the size and shape of the controller perfectly. I'm saddened that I haven't been able to use it all that much yet. Worked like a dream in RE5 Gold and I've been considering buying M.A.G. on PSN just so I could use it again. :lol

Hey Wagglers, I was wondering if any of you have had the opportunity to try Virtua Tennis 4 with the Move?

I got to play a build in early October at a PlayStation preview event:

[I'm actually using a qwerty keyboard now, so I'll be a bit more in-depth]

The set up running was of one Move controller, and all gameplay controls were gesture based (I'll get into that a bit later).

I have never played GST so I can't tell you on how they compare, and I should clarify how the on rails works. It's very much like the light gun shooters (such as The Shoot, or Time Crisis, both of which I played, although TC seemed to be the demo everyone has) in that it's a first person on rails game with your arm and racket being what appears on screen (depending on position of the controller, they do disappear). In terms of overall control of the racket, you can easily pick which corner you'd like to hit the ball into, and determine the way it travels, etc. The only time the game breaks from this first person perspective is durring the player's serves, which go third person. A simple tap or two to bounce the balls (rather than pressing a button), before a swing will launch the tennis ball flying the opposite direction. It may have just been me, but there appeared to be an intentional delay between the input of the swing (tracking had been more or less perfect prior, so I assume it's intentional), and when the game displayed it. Oddly, it was noticable when I played the game, but when watching others it felt completely nature and as if it was all in one action, so it may have just been me.

The SEGA rep there wasn't allowed to talk about any multiplayer details (local or online), saying that they'll announce these things in the future. It did go over my head to ask about Nav Controller support for any free roam modes (although in 3D I'd imagine that would be insane) or if there is a separate mode in the game for people who want a more traditional style VT.

Edit- I'm not a tennis pro, but I've played the sport before, and swinging the Move felt like swinging the real deal. The rumble, and shape of the controller aids in that.

Should also mention that the game looks pretty nice. The models do look a bit off in screen shots, but in motion, at least in 3D, they look good. I was Federer, and the CP was Roddick I believe.

:lol This is exactly how I feel. I want it, but don't need it much yet. I was considering getting MAG again despite selling it long ago and recently being unimpressed by the Playstation+ game trial just to use it but I can wait for Killzone.

Nice vid TTP. I think I will get this from PSN because it seems dirt cheap and could prove quite nice as a distraction when e.g. entertaining guests while making food.

I tried out the Ape Escape demo. I actually really liked it. It's ridiculous but it's a decent showcase for a variety of PlayStation Move controller features. You can switch between the sling-shot (for hitting bananas) and stuff, to the net (which is used for obviously catching the monkeys). The tracking feels absolutely spot-on -- it's yet another demonstration of how precise the Move controller is.

I'd import right away, but the cheapest I've seen it for is £30 and, rather annoyingly, it seems to be another of those "retail" Move titles with only 12 trophies (and no platinum). I'm not spending £30 to import a game that will probably release on the PSN for £9.99 early next year.

Here's hoping they don't pull a Kung-Fu Rider with this though, no matter how much fun it seems.

(ALSO: Would love them to take the net controls and put it in a third-person platforming game. Would be so awesome. I hope we see some "bigger" budget Move titles next year.)

yeah thankx for the heads up onken.... love the Ape Escape Demo.

when I first heard the direction this version was going to go I was disappointed..but after playing it, it is a fun fun game.

for a kiddy game, those little monkeys can startle you here and there...they will start running towards you if you are not paying attention and they jump at you pretty quick. They should have levels where the room is pitch dark with you having a flash light.

also I like how they implemented physics into the game....knocking down something on the floor and seeing the monkeys trip over them was funny. Wish the demo was longer, I wanted to play more.

also looking forward to the other Ape Escape game...hopefully with traditional gameplay.

Here's some gameplay from the Ape Escape Move demo. Do we have confirmation it's getting localized? While I assume SCEA will want to support the Move with new content, Ape Escape is a franchise SCEA has neglected in recent years.

I bought the 320gb bundle back in September but sold my Move controller, camera and game shortly after. After seeing Echochrome ii and a few other titles coming out next year, I went and rebought a used Move controller and used Playstation Eye today. A GameStop a few miles from my place had a controller (which feels and look brand new) traded in yesterday, just in time for the Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale :D
