Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

There is a lot less talk here about Echochrome II then I hoped for. Still on the fence about it. :/

a little talk was also in the news thread of the game:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=415107

I guess I could repost my impressions post from there, thought it was more focused on the game itself and not Move.

here it goes:

It's quite a neat puzzle game. Controls better than the first game and despite the fears only the first batches of levels are as obvious as the ones shown in the trailer etc. Though I finished the A (tutorial), B and C levels and didn't have real problems so far. Some stuff you just have to try like moving your character manually using the shadows.

There should be 8 sets (+ the tutorial). (so, at least 80 levels? apparently 100 as there is said to be bonus stuff. Also unlimited amount of user levels of course)

I didn't really read any previews for this game, so I was pleasantly surprised that you have 3 different modes for EVERY level.

I recorded some videos ingame to show each mode in the same level (the very first one, B-01):

escort
That's the one presented in previews, the demo etc.

echo
This is basically the mode from the first echochrome (collect all echo shadows). Here you can see that even in this basic level you have to use a different layout (than the "normal" one to get to the goal) to get to all shadows.

paint
The shadow characters color the "real" blocks in their color by walking over their shadows, you have to reach a certain percentage to clear the level.

After clearing a level you have the option to upload a replay to youtube. So there will probably be a video for each level to look it up if you're stuck.

It uploads the videos in 720p, you can optionally use the PS Eye video feed as the background (this will make the files much larger though):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsrVZ-cr1TY
(here I also demonstrate how to crush your character and to throw him down :P )

Unlike in the first game (which had a Picture-in-Picture solution), you can't record yourself WHILE playing and you can't even record the audio (at least I couldn't) which makes this rather pointless.
Speaking of missing features, you also can't export the video to your HDD instead and for some reason there is no custom music support >:| (there was in the demo IIRC). At least the music is imo pretty great in this one (in echochrome it kinda got annoying).

Move works well (I set the sensitivity to high), just like in the demo. You don't even need the camera feed so you can play lying down, holding the controller behind your head or however you feel comfortable playing puzzle games.

The shadow character can also climb over certain heights and doesn't get stuck by little gabs or steps, so you don't have to align everything perfectly which was sometimes quite annoying in the first game.

Didn't check the create mode yet, but you unlock stuff for it during sp.
Level sharing seems to be much improved, it's basically like LBP now, tagging levels with stickers etc.

So this is:
1) a good (though not complex at the moment) and creative puzzle game.
2) a nice use for the Move controller
3) due to the amount of content (and future content due to the create/share modes) worth the price.

And I'll end this post with an ingame screenshot (XMB screenshot support, click for the original file)

(the blue stuff is a hole btw, so no shadows and you will have to restart if you move your character into it)

I'm a bit disappointed that they couldn't upgrade the image quality, way too much aliasing for such a game, 1080p doesn't help much here.

I want to buy echocrhome 2 but I don't like to play too many games at once and I'm still working through Funky Lab Rat for my puzzle hunger. I'm going to get it, just not yet.

Thanks for the suggestions, Patsu!

Think I'll pick up Beatsketcher and Sports Champ.

How is the Move integration for Heavy Rain? Better with or without?

Heavy Rain is actually better with the Move IMO. Very immersive feelings only get magnified. And Sports Champions is the pack in game so I wouldn't worry about that. If you like gaming with friends definitely pick up The Fight or The Shoot. Both are an absolute blast.

Now that the market had calmed down a bit ...
I'm looking for a dock for my two dual shocks and My two move controllers ...
It must ac-powered, allow for the four accessories to dock and I'd really appreciate if there were one or two more usb ports for sticking things such as the official headset or else.
Any must-buy ?
Or even advices and reviews of current docks ?

this might suit your needs. i just bought it (cos its on sale at the moment) but it hasn't arrived yet so i can't comment on its quality. it'll charge 2 Dualshocks and the 2 USB ports could charge your moves. all from AC.

I already have the Pellican equivalent of this.
It's nice, but I don't want to use usb cables. I'm looking for something where I can put the two moves and two dualshocks without any more cables.
More briefly, I want the child of what you've linked and the official Sony Move charger.

Decided to spend some of my Xmas money on Top Darts today and was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed it, and how well implemented the Move tech is :)

My friend actually just got one of those. It works great with the Move. Glowing lights look sweet too.

Does that game require much calibration? I've found that's the real key to Move's accuracy.

The Kung Fu Live demo impressed me. With my lighting/background I couldn't get a perfectly clean cutout, but it didn't affect the gameplay which was really fun (especially executing the special moves).
It's quite astounding that the game can detect your limbs etc. just via the PS-Eye. When I first saw the trailer I honestly thought the game wouldn't work as shown in the video (and I also didn't expect it to be so fun). I really hope the tech will be used in other games as well.

Will definitely buy, but I already bought lots of PSN stuff recently so I want to finish that first.

I also liked the presentation and your integration into the comics (btw even in the demo you can export the panels to the XMB).

The Razer Sixense motion controller (for PC) shown working with Portal 2. Wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 version of Portal 2 supports Move since they seem to be similar.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/intel-waves-around-razers-sixense-motion-sensing-sticks-plays/

Back when P2 was announced for the PS3 they mentioned that it wouldn't have Move or 3D support. Something to remember about Sixense is that Valve is one of their partners. Sony apparently looked into using their tech for the PS3's motion control and ended up going in another direction. Had they gone with Sixense then P2 would almost certainly have motion control support on the PS3.

Will ask on the new page:

Will gamestop honor a deal (the buy 2 move games for 50) if I bought a game 2 days before the deal started?

Um..call them? Might get your answer faster..

There really shouldn't be any problems in doing so but some stores might be really strict about it- for no reason.

So Deadspace 2 reviews are starting to come in which means that there'll be no MOVE support out of the box. is there any point in hoping for a post release patch, do you think?

Seems pretty unlikely. Maybe a RE5 type re-release down the line? I really don't know.

yeah my room is a mess with all of stuff in the background and it wasn't too bright, but i was able to play the game

A number of promising PlayStation Move games seem to have gone quiet lately. Just wondered if anyone knew what the deal is with Virtua Tennis 4 and Sorcery. Both seem to have gone into complete silence since GamesCom -- which is unusual because hands-on reports and reaction seemed to suggest they are two of the most promising Move titles in development.

I imagine Sony saw the reaction to Sorcery at E3 and immediately upped the game's budget (at least in an ideal world eh?), but why so quiet about Virtua Tennis 4?

what do you guys think of Modern Combat : Domination, its only $7.99 (with 25% discount for PS+)

I'm really loving the price as I was afraid it would be $15. I haven't played it yet but I played Modern Combat on iOS (and a variety of other Gameloft games). If the controls are anything like MAG then we are getting a great and cheap COD-type deathmatch game. I'm more "worried" about them getting the controls right, I have no doubt that it'll be a fun title like their other FPSes.

...and if Gameloft can make FPSes work on a touchscreen I'm sure they can successfully copy MAG's control scheme. Copying is what they do best!

Wouldn't it be crazy is Sorcery is in development issues given that a PSone game by SCEA under the exact same name had those issues?

The game looks kind of stiff. I don't like the overuse of the whip. Should have more variety than that.

Yet another PlayStation Move Heroes vid that doesn't show the Move during the Clank sections. I want to know how they are doing the fixed crosshairs thing dammit.

After trying out Kinect at a friends house we decided to buy the Move yesterday. Amazingly found the bundle and an extra controller in the same Bestbuy (yes we know about the SONY offer). We love it and are amazed how precise the movement of the wand is synchronized with whats going on onscreen. My question is that even when you are using only one controller the game asks you to synchronize both. Anyway to avoid this?

Turn off the unused controller.

Took me a couple of goes to get the callibration right, but it was fine after that.

ok finally some one gave this game some attention :lol (I was surprised no one posted their impressions for the demo). I was really impressed how smooth the experience was for me as well. And I was not playing in perfect light conditions and I still got a decent image (wish the PSEye had a higher resolution). And the calibration was not that hard as opposed to what the reviewers were bitching about (do they even try???). Game is fun to play and you get a good workout.

I think the tech is very impressive considering they are just using the PSEye and it rivals what Kinect is doing. They could have added a lot more cool stuff if they used the Move controllers together with their full body tracking. Hoping they sell/share this tech so other devs can do some neat stuff with it.

TTP did you try out Kungfu-live yet? what are your impressions? Need to see your karate moves in the video :)

It's a two parts video. About 17 mins total. Pop corn sold separately.

Under Siege Pt.1 (Controls analysis, Basics): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O02AKKOasR4

Under Siege Pt.2 (Multiplayer, Editor, etc.): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLsUyze_CJQ

Enjoy!

Coming up next: KILLZONE 3, woot! (hopefully in 48hrs - still recording vids)

TTP, do you have KZ3 in full now, or is it that preview disc showing off the giga-mech stage only? And also, for someone without access to sound currently, what's your short opinion of Under Siege? :)

giga-mech KZ3 preview here.

Under Siege is a fresh take on the RTS genre. Needs some time getting used to its pacing (it's faster than your usual RTS - and you can lose battles or seriously jeopardize missions in seconds if not super careful), and Move implementation is "by the books" ie free pointer > fixed pointer but whole interface is still to reliant on buttons. For example, you can't click on units icons to the right. Have to use shoulder buttons to scroll through them. Of course you can click on units on the field, but that ain't easy in packed situations.

Some bugs in my not 100% final build (Move buttons unresponsiveness and pathfinding glitches) and engine is prone to frame drops and some tearing when things get busy. Not a huge deal given the genre, and less annoying when using the Move (since you scroll the camera less).

So the PlayStation Blog had this contest to "Join Our Crew" that I randomly entered... and was somehow picked to be in the finals. :lol

I hate to spam the NeoGAF, but it's Move related and I need views to win.

Star Wars Nerd PlayStation Move Redux

By the time they announced the deadline I only had 45 minutes of free time to put something together... not my finest Internet moment, but it's for cash and prizes - I couldn't resist.

Has anyone played Start the Party? I rented and if they can add more mini games and more modes for its sequel they would really have something.

Completely agree. I think game shows the most potential of what the PlayStation Move can do that the other two can't, but after about a day the kids grew tired of it.

You probably didn't even play all the games that are in the current game. Some don't even come up unless you play the 10 round multiplayer game.

You are right that it needs more modes, but also a simple free select for the games would be nice also.

Thought so. KZ3 should be no different, even with the inclusion of 3D.

No tearing in fact. I'm hugely impressed by the SP performance. Deals much better than KZ2 with explosions and particles. Still drops frames in flames (lol), but not as much as KZ2.
