PlayStation Network down?

Oh so PlayStation sucks at DRM when not connected as well?

Who would have thunk it?
It's not really hard to untick "connect to the internet" in the network settings.
Some games will try to check for stuff online if that's still ticked.

So the exact same as Xbox then…
No not the exact same as Xbox.

If your PS4 or PS5 is set as primary console, you can disconnect it from the internet, install and play any offline games from Disk and also play any digital title you downloaded from the store. That is not the same for Xbox where in some cases you need to connect to the internet to authenticate before you can play a game you installed from a Disk and some Digital titles even when the console is set as home console. Thats not how it works on PS4 or PS5. Smart Delivery titles have to be connected on the internet to install and play, not the same on PS5.

the only time you need to connect online to play a disc game is if you want to play an Xbox One disc on a Series X, because Xbox One games need to download a config file to work.

Series X discs work offline as do basically all games once installed

smart delivery discs are sadly almost always Xbox One discs, which sucks

Yea that is pretty much covered in the video. Doesn't work that way on PS5.

could be easily fixed by Microsoft simply by giving the option to download every config file at once... these shouldn't be that big, even if you get one for each Xbox One game on the market.

they did this on 360 back in the day where back compat uodates downloaded all the files necessary to run og Xbox games

Yea I am aware it could be easily fixed by Microsoft. It is a device of their own making. Same way they undid their Xbox One always online 24hr check drm they wanted to implement last gen after the infamous "its not a button you can flip" statement made by Major Nelson.

You implied there's DRM in place which prevents you from playing h single player games offline. I pointed out that's false. Instead of admitting you were wrong you came up with that? 🙄 Seems to me it's all about console warz and persecution complex

Eh, you can play any single player games you have offline, when you have set the console as primary.

As I wrote earlier in the thread, I couldn't play Plague Tale while the network was down. And no, it was not because of PS+ validation, the game booted just fine. The problem occurred inside the game. After "Press X" it just kept loading forever. No error, it just wouldn't load. Had to close the game. Wreckfest, also a PS+ game, worked with no issue. And as soon as the network was up again, so did Plague Tale. So I can only conclude that it has some kind of always online DRM (maybe it would have worked if I took the console completely offline, didn't try). I tried several times, so I don't think it was a coincidence. Or maybe the game tries to read the save file directly from the cloud? I thought games always used the local save file, which is then synced. The console did warn that the cloud save couldn't be loaded when I booted the game, but then gave me the option to use my local save instead, which I did. But that didn't work. So maybe the game has some bug there. Wreckfest didn't ask me that at all, so something is different between them.
