Ok great, so when I transfer the game back to my Vita it will carry with it the saves at the original time of transfer. How do you actually use cloud saving?

You need to be a PS+ member.

You have to activate cloud saving on a per game basis. Open the game bubble, press the PS+ icon and turn on save uploads. The Vita will then automatically upload the sves once a day. You can manually upload saves at any point by going back into the game's PS+ screen.

To download a cloud save, just go into the PS+ screen of the game and select download. It will overwrite the save (if you have one) stored on your Vita with the cloud copy.

I wouldn't call it amazing.
That's a negative, not a positive.
Granted, I just got my house and saved, but I have this feeling like I'm going to delete this demo soon and avoid the full game.
I was just about to ask for your opinion on Toukiden, lol. I pretty much feel the same way, but this talk about the demo not being representative of the full game makes me a bit curious.

I am fairly sure that was about the first Japanese demo which was essentially a beta version of the game.

Vita bros (or PS3!) please add my PSN, I just like seeing what people are playing. :)

PSN: Aisutron

Currently playing KZ Mercs but I will be playing Toukiden demo on my way to class shortly.

I tried the DBZ demo earlier, it was alright but I don't know if I actually want to buy it.

Fuuuuuck Spelunky. I can't get deeper than about 4 mines in. Every time I get near the door something new (ghost, boulder, etc) kills me or something incredibly stupid happens.

Yep. Was a waste of money for me. I don'tondndying cause I suck but dying cause I'm getting robbed isn't fun.

I'll be doing some online play later.

Didn't you tell me you didn't even like the game the other night? ;)

I don't know if I'm going to bother with the online. Itachi is right -- it's slow and it's too much like MH so far.

Let me know when you want to knock out the rest of those forgotten pacts though -- still on for tomorrow?

If you die in Spelunky, it's probably your fault. :P

It's all about learning, Mak. You need to learn how to identify problems and what the best way of handling them is.
I just had a stupidly short run on the daily challenge in PC, but when I died, it was totally my stupidity thinking I could cut corners or be sneaky.
Then I had a fantastic run going, I was on the ice caves (3-1) with about 18 bombs and 8 lives and I made the mistake of trying to throw a sticky bomb at a mammoth in a tight space -- I got him but the platform was so small, he turned before I fell from my jumping throw and hit me with the ice blast. I was frozen and smashed on the ground as I fell. 8 lives gone because of my own idiocy.

Spelunky is rather poorly designed in this manner.

I feel I'm decently good at the game (been playing it off and on since it was a free thing), but it kind of doesn't matter since getting hit once by a minor enemy usually triggers a Rube Goldberg sequence to instant death.

Spelunky's design is amazing. :P
I know what you're talking about but a lot of the time when that stuff happens, it's either poor judgement/planning to put you in the situation that led to the first hit, or sometimes the frustration/reaction to the first hit leads to more stupidity.
Very rarely have I seen instances where everything wasn't avoidable and I was just doomed to die for reasons beyond my control.

The thing is with Spelunky is that there has to be a lot of ways to die - each world introduces new things, and it gets harder with each stage.

But the learning takes longer because of the random designs of the stages, you have to really understand the traps etc to get around them in all the different variations without memorizing routes, just being familiar with your character.

You can also have shortcuts for later levels, making it easier to familiarize yourself with the surroundings. But it's random (which is the thing slowing down learning)! But it shouldn't get old for a long time thanks to it.

Stick with it if you can (becomes a lot more rewarding, earliest experience is the hardest). Pays off a lot more soon, but don't force yourself. When you're feeling up to a challenge or something. -- and yeah, with all the randomness, the effort you put in the beginning learning the game pays off as it is super replayable.

will charge my vita up and send some requests in a bit. Been rinsing the battery playing Terraria recently, game finally clicked with me, I feel like a respectable force in it now.

Perfect explanation, thanks.

Paid for lumines full price. No regrets at all. That game is a blast. I spend 1-2 hours per session on that game.
I generally dislike Lumines as a game, but the Vita one has a sick soundtrack, so I'm holding off for a really good price since I know I'll basically barely play it.

Sorry you are having a bad time but that game is anything but poorly designed. Maybe it's your excuse for not learning how to play it properly.

no more free games for PSM?

was Retro/Grade on IGC at any one point for US PSN?

Store is showing that I don't own Sound Shapes when I actually do ><

That actually sounds like perfect design. Especially for a Trap-filled tomb. It makes sure you're NEVER too giddy and over-zealous, you always have to be on your toes.

I'll never understand the large amount of "random chaotic death" complaints with Spelunky. Maybe it's the fact that most games offer invincibility after getting hit, where as Spelunky gets MORE dangerouns when you lose your control, and suddenly get ping-pong'd around the battlefield. But that... makes sense. For all the grapple, cape, rope, spring shoe, pitching glove, jetpack, and spike boot control you can purchase, taking damage strips you of all of it.

I think it's one of the best games at making one feel overpowered, and yet incredibly frail, all at the same time.

Re-purchased on PSN for Vita / PS3 LAN play, and it works SO WELL. So now, unlike the 360 version, I can play with 2 separate local accounts and both of us can earn some progress / trophies. Still can't unlock characters or shortcuts in Co-Op, but being able to search the area separately, due to each getting full screen control, is game-changing.

Can't we just agree that it's good that the Vita's game catalog doesn't cater to a single preference?

Hopefully it makes the people who wanted a MH game on the platform happy.
I prefer Soul Sacrfice and can already say I won't be buying Toukiden.

However, I will say that it's very nicely done in terms of graphics and presentation... and it's definitely a lot like MH in my experience.

The one benefit it has is that it has some basic semblance of a combo system... it's just... not enough variety for me. At least not with the sword, though I don't think I'd like the knives any better.

I'm not here to try to convince you or anything, but what were you expecting?
Like really, it was pretty obvious from the beginning that Toukiden was a MH clone and not a SS clone.

Yeah, if you say so.

Well it isn't poorly made. So that is a more likely reason.

Someone said the combat felt more like SS than MH. So I'll try.

Monster Hunter with better combat?
Which it is... but it's still so slow and boring.

They were lying.
It's slower and entirely melee based.
Imagine SS if you just had the weapon spells but you had a second attack button. Now slow it down. Now put it on a map like MH with various numbered areas.
You have a basic idea of Toukiden now.
It's like MH with a DW twist or something... I'm not quite sure why it gives me a DW vibe. Hoards of small creatures that you just whack at for what seems like ages in the first 4 missions, perhaps.

They are full of smooth creamy shit.

I like both. After 3 games I just got bored with the same monsters in different areas with slightly different moves and behavior. I always stuck with GS, Hammer and S&S in MH.
Toukiden has all the new things I want in a hunting game, so I'm pretty stoked.

It is pretty obvious this game was not designed with you guys in mind. I tried to lessen your disappointment yesterday by telling you it was a MonHun clone but hey :p

I have made clear that I don't like the monster hunter combat formula. However, I will also be the last to say that I don't welcome an addition to the vita library. If the game has a meaningful single player campaign beyond just grinding for equipment, I may eventually purchase it down the line.

From what I've seen there are more story elements/cutscenes then you'd get from a traditional Monster Hunter, as well as the characters who join you on single player hunts.
