PlayStation plus prices going up starting 5/20

This shitbox company is raising all tier prices:

Food, housing, fuel, meds keep just rapidly going up in price.

Every shitbox company: "let's raise prices too even though every consumer is screaming from the rooftops that they can't afford it."

Hahahaha. Greedy fucks.

Love how they only announced the base tier and then just slid the higher ones in hoping no one would notice.

Yeah, I was wondering about those tiers, they are the Gamepass competitors while essential is just "pay for online" (and cloud saves, free everywhere else).

Yup. I get free cloud saves on Steam and Xbox.

Nintendo locks them behind switch online, but at least base switch online is dirt cheap, though locking cloud saves behind any paywall just sucks.

This should probably be added to the OP.

Despite an astounding $565 million loss against Bungie, Sony's gaming operating income rose overall by 12%.
PlayStation achieved a record-breaking financial milestone by posting over $31.7 billion in revenue for the gaming division, becoming the first platform holder in history to reach this annual milestone.

They really need to increase prices to keep the lights on, guys

Holy crap, I 100% expected Premium to go to $20 month but NEVER would have expected Extra to go to $17 month. That tier has no Cloud Gaming either.

And no Day 1 games on Premium. Wow, they just killed the service IMO. Next up, yearly plan hikes.

Yeah I'm gonna let my year run out and then cancel the renewal. The yearly price hasn't gone up, but I will express my displeasure at the monthly and 3-month price increases by just letting my sub run out.

I don't understand the reason for the Deception of not announcing price hikes for higher tiers. Did Sony really think no one would find out?

Bury the bigger damage by announcing the smaller thing first and hoping future 'update' tweets get sweeped in the same discussion, I reckon. 🤷‍♂️

Considering how often it happens to them, someone's probably gonna try and start a class action lawsuit against Sony for this, lol.

This is the moment for me. I'm going to enact the same plan I did with Xbox Gold/Gamepass a few years ago.

It's the moment I decide to slowly go through my *free* plus monthly games I've accumulated and then eventually unsub.

I came to the realization a while back that I don't really play online games anymore on console, thus the bonus incentives aren't really as enticing anymore.

I haven't renewed my PS+ subscription since the last time they raised the price. When they raised it in 2023, my subscription was active through June 2024 and I let it lapse. I haven't missed it at all. I rarely play purely online multiplayer games anymore and even if I get the itch to play one they're usually F2P and thus outside the PS+ paywall.

Sorry Sony, I'm not paying more for bare basic functionality because your studios keep pumping out several-hundred-million-dollar flops.

I've had ps plus since 2013

My ps plus expires in a few weeks and I don't plan to renew it

I suspect I'll also join the won't miss it at all camp

I stopped subbing years ago - the first time they raised the price and removed stuff while doing so. Every so often they send me an offer for a discount on a month long sub. It goes straight into into the trash after I check if there's a feedback link. What I really want is for them to ask why I stopped subbing because I have quite a bit that I'd like to say to them.

I can say that for the amount of content you get, Extra is still …OK.

But as a single player only gamer, I changed my credit card about a year ago and let my subscription lapse. I honestly haven't noticed once! The only thing I was worried about was losing saves, but c'est la vie!
