Ah ok, that would explain why it wasn't a thing for you( and yes, I thought it was stupid as well even back then as a teenager). From Europe yes, but not UK.
This shitbox company is raising all tier prices:

Sony’s other PS Plus plans are going up in price too.
When it announced price hikes this week, Sony focused on the cheapest Essential tier. As we suspected though, now the new prices are live, Extra and Premium have gone up too. Extra now starts at $16.99 per month, while Premium is $19.99. [Link: Sony is raising short-subscription prices for...www.theverge.com
Food, housing, fuel, meds keep just rapidly going up in price.
Every shitbox company: "let's raise prices too even though every consumer is screaming from the rooftops that they can't afford it."
Hahahaha. Greedy fucks.
Love how they only announced the base tier and then just slid the higher ones in hoping no one would notice.
It'll probably work for the most partLove how they only announced the base tier and then just slid the higher ones in hoping no one would notice.
Yeah, I was wondering about those tiers, they are the Gamepass competitors while essential is just "pay for online" (and cloud saves, free everywhere else).

This should probably be added to the OP.
Despite an astounding $565 million loss against Bungie, Sony's gaming operating income rose overall by 12%.
PlayStation achieved a record-breaking financial milestone by posting over $31.7 billion in revenue for the gaming division, becoming the first platform holder in history to reach this annual milestone.
They really need to increase prices to keep the light on, guys

Holy crap, I 100% expected Premium to go to $20 month but NEVER would have expected Extra to go to $17 month. That tier has no Cloud Gaming either.Love how they only announced the base tier and then just slid the higher ones in hoping no one would notice.

And no Day 1 games on Premium. Wow, they just killed the service IMO. Next up, yearly plan hikes.
What's next? Not allowing local saves on PS6?
At the very least a title update for this thread would be nice, otherwise a lot of people will miss the news.Or a new thread to call attention to it even more since it was just snuck in alongside the announced increase.
I don't understand the reason for the Deception of not announcing price hikes for higher tiers. Did Sony really think no one would find out?
I haven't renewed my PS+ subscription since the last time they raised the price. When they raised it in 2023, my subscription was active through June 2024 and I let it lapse. I haven't missed it at all. I rarely play purely online multiplayer games anymore and even if I get the itch to play one they're usually F2P and thus outside the PS+ paywall.
Sorry Sony, I'm not paying more for bare basic functionality because your studios keep pumping out several-hundred-million-dollar flops.
