PlayStation Store speed

The PlayStation Store is very laggy for me, almost like 56k days. Loading each image at a time over a few seconds. Does this improve with the Pro version? I have the base model with fiber connection. No issues with downloading or moving around quickly with the Xbox Store. Computers and phones have fast connections as well.
It has been sometime since I've used the store. I've been used to the speed of the Xbox's Store and then I jumped over to PS4 and was kind of shocked that it's still an issue.
I still don't understand why Sony hasn't been able to speed things up.
Does anyone think this will be greatly improved upon with the PS5?
I've notice the downloads still take a while longer as well. Bioshock Collection is 11GBs with 4 hours remaining.
Could I possibly have a setting selected that might hold me back in speed?

That's on Amazon CDN, since Sony is using them for content delivery. And yes it's fucking slow, I have fiber and I am getting around 250Mb/s on X1X (so it's pretty much maximalise my HDD speed), but I am glad if I am getting like 1/10 on PS4Pro...

Pro has 5 Ghz for wifi but the range and speed is still shit. Even wired. Still better than the xbone. :/

It was clear even back at the launch that you just use the web store from a PC or phone. The store on the console has sucked since its inception back on PS3.

Just a thought - do you use any streaming (Netflix/Youtube/etc) apps? If so, having one in the background may very much affect download speeds. Even if it isn't actively being used/the console is in sleep mode. There's a technical explanation for this (not that it makes much sense), but I can't be arsed to google the article; at any rate, if this is the case, try closing the app (hold the PS button on the controller, select "Close application") and see if it makes any difference.

As to the store, I quite never use it on console, I do my shopping via a browser on a laptop (not that the web store is that spectacular either)

I used to have really bad speed from PSN (25% of the speed a got on PC (Steam)), but during the PS4 years its been as fast as on PC (Steam).

Then again... I don't have great Internet speed...
Down: ~7Mbit
Up: ~0.8Mbit

Unfortunately no, I run those with Apple TV.

I've never had an issue with speed on playstation store. Everything I download is very acceptable. I dont even know the rate it downloads at for me because it's never been slow enough to draw my attention.

It's slow as fuck for me to browse too. At least it worst unlike on PS3 though. BTW anybody know what the PS+ icon on the dashboard all the way to the left is for? Literally never works for me.

Downloaded 50 plus gig CoD update in 23 mins ....

No complains here .... also keep in mind if you are running a game and then browser the store...its going to be saaaalooooow

It's pretty choppy... Although I am pretty new in ps4 pro scene (got it last year) - but I thought it was pretty fast first. That I am coming from PS3 speed... it felt quite fast. But the other day when I was browsing, I felt it's laggy and slow.

If it was more optimized and fast - I think I would have bought more games on it tbh. Especially on PS3 as well.

I'll have to try this out tomorrow. I had a game suspended, while browsing the store.

My internet isn't the greatest (max 25 mbps for download and bandwidth issues due to my apartment complex having too many residents online at once), but I manage pretty well overall. But yes, it's not the snappiest app experience I've ever had.

I have Spectrum (used to be Time Warner) so I pretty much have to do a full power cycle on the modem before I download anything. But then it is able to max out my download speed (100mbps).

If I don't, it'll say it needs 10 days to download or some shit.

Get around 219mb here. The Store is just there already loaded when I go on it.
Never seen images loading one at time...
Downloads are no longer then 15 mins for something like 50gb.
Maybe there's another problem you're missing

And yes that's normal for uploading speed here the UK

Hey OP it's based on your location.
It used to be slow as fuck here.

But sony must have build a server close to me.
Because suddenly i download at 500mbit/s

Still have issues with the wank store tho.
To access the store sometimes.
I test my internet connection.
And bam shops opens instantly.

This trick works

Hi Down, Low Up

It's not normal, nor is it a standard. You are lucky to be in an area that can provide this.

My Download is 38Mbps and my Upload is 2Mbps.

Webkit (PSN, browser and manuals rendering engine) doesn't seem well suited for consoles, even when Sony has been using it on PS3, PS4 and PSV. It is quite sluggish (not to mention the large collection of exploits).

Damn, I thought after over a decade of PSN usage people already got used to it and lost all hope for decent download speeds. Those awful speeds are indeed the worst aspect of Playstation systems, and it's only getting worse and worse as the game sizes grow with time. And that file copying system after every update Sony introduced with PS4 makes everything even worse... #4theplayers I guess? And this makes me wonder - how much/if the PS5 SSD will actually improve the situation?

I don't think that ps4pro changes things but rebuilding database and your internet parameters probably do.

I have a launch model working fine loading everything fast even on the psstore or downloading games, but my brother have a ps4pro that lags on psn and the video previews are all low res.

There's a few differences between his console and mine :
-I often rebuild database
-I tweaked my internet settings
-I have a launch model he has a pro
-I have an SSHD drive he has a normal one.

So maybe you'll find your answer one of the things I did.

PS: we're both on fiber 5 kilometers away he is living in Paris so probably closer to the server.

I hope I could help you a bit

I mean the low Upload compared to Download speed.
Americans get crazy uploads speeds

Even the ps4 menu worked much much much snappier at the beginning. And much much much better with pro after its release. Now it's really slow.

I don't know what is the problem where do you live. But when I download some game from PSN I'm using the 100% of bandwidth (100mbits) 2 years ago I had 300mbits and I could download games between 30 and 40 MB/s. Anyway Im from Spain and use a wired connection.

Switch is 5x slower than PSN for me, downloading and loading the eshop.

It's terrible.
Both consoles are wired ( with the same brand/length cat 7 ethernet cable ) directly, the PS store is so slower than the Xbox one.
The download speed is almost 2 times slower too.
Even when I test the internet speed on the consoles it's really slower on PS4
Around 700 mb/s download , 600 mbs upload on Xbox and 500 /350 on PS.

Psn can be a pain in the ass, but pause/resume downloads mostly fix the speeds. Never had problems with slow loading images at the store.
Xbl on the other side is quite slow. Loading storepages takes ages sometimes. Not to forget installing games from disc while being online is a chore.

Its pretty hit or miss for me. Most of the times its acceptable. I can download at like 15 megs a second tops, but sometimes patches are like 1 mb a second.

Works fine but I can't really say it is fast the navigation.

Downloading the games are great and fast... around 10-12MB/s (that is close to what my IPS provide taking in mind there are others devices using my internet... 150Mbps = ~18MB/s).
I'm wired btw.

Yep, just sucks. I usually need around 15 min to download 10 gb via Steam, but it takes hours on my ps4 (wired).

One of the biggest reasons I barely use my PS4. And no a Pro doesn't help. About the only thing you can do to help is pause your download when it gets slow and then resume it, that speeds it up.

At least it's a step up from the incredibly laggy PS3 UI. I remember sometimes minutes long waits just because I would look at a message while playing a game 😆

The max speed on the ps store is 10Mbps for downloads. It's not good, but not bad either. The only things is that the store sometimes seems to be at capacity and the download speeds plummet to 1Mbps or worse, it depends on the time of the day or when big games release. Still, I have no problem downloading 50GB+ games in no time.

what? no. not even close. wifi on xbox one is way better, also the store is much faster. Dont know what you are talking about.
How? It takes like 10 hours to download GoW and a few more hours just to install.

BS I can't even have my Xbox s on wifi bcus of a weak connection. Might be a case by case but I've never had an issue with my wifi on none of my consoles except for Xbox s.

Store faster? Store and ui in general on Xbox is ass. Sony definitely did better on tht front imo.

Just bought divison2 on store for 4 bucks.
Downloaded 99gigs in 70 minutes on shaw300.
Deffinetly much faster than on xbox.

As far as the lag goes in menus yes its shit.
Sort by options are also horrible. Try to sort by price and it doesnt do it per current price if on sale.

Also on wired connection its much improved over wifi

I had lag in the Store way back when I got the PS4, so it would just load images slow, but that was years ago. No real issues downloading content though, always seems pretty fast to me unless I was downloading other stuff on other devices on the wifi. My local wifi is usually a bottleneck at that point.

I did some testing with the WiFi vs Ethernet.
Base PS4 connected Download 183.4 / Upload 68.2 - This was the highest download speed I have seen on my PS4.
Base PS4 wifi Download 27.5 / Upload 37.4

I can't believe there is that big of a different over the two. But at the same time the Xbox One X connected Download is 726.86 / Upload 25.97. Who knows. 🙃

Some of you asked my location : Dallas, Texas

I just hope the PS5 will have some improvements with download speeds and possibly wifi6, which that is a reach because it's still in its infancy. I'm still excited for the new hardware coming at the end of the year.

Thanks everyone

My biggest issues with browsing PSN on PS4 (pro) are two things

1.) Videos not loading in HD and also sometimes taking forever to load (they're fine when browsing on a PC/mac), even though I max out DL speeds on the console. It refuses to load videos in HD. The store is not loading slow, pages pop up relatively quickly, it's just Trailers/videos not loading.

2.) PSN Store App crashes when you try to browse for a bit. This is just infuriating when you follow suggestions, or when you want to browse some themes/avatars.
