Vive trumping the Rift, sweet.
PSVR trumping the DK2, sweet as well.
Chart pretty much shows you get what you pay for.

I'm pretty certain this will be cheaper than the Oculus and Vive but I'm worried at just how much the UK price is going to be...
The leaked Goldman Sachs VR equity research estimated the BOM of PSVR to be at $350. I'm not sure if that includes the camera BOM but I expect a minimum price of $399.
Canadian here. Also shitting myself.
And sanity has returned. Never thought for a second that this thing would be $299.99 or $349.99. Those are mainstream prices and this product is for enthusiasts. $399.99 is fine for me and I'm definitely day one.

Anyone saying under $300 is wrong.
Anyone saying over $500 is also wrong.
$299 and released on September 11, 2016 (my guess)
given that it's GDC, i hope they announce that the PSVR will work on PC as well. I think this would be huge for not only moving more units but also for helping the mass adoption of VR as well.
Leaving it as a PS4 only device will really limit its appeal to the consumer who is looking for just one VR headset to buy.

It was originally unlikely to happen, and I think now with their breakout box it'd be even more unlikely - they'd need to write drivers for it to work because they seem to use the HDMI cable for data and not just video to send the 3D spatial audio data which is then processed by the breakout box. So I don't know how technically feasible it would even be to support it on PC.
I'm surprised this event isn't getting much hype.
It's brewing. Been some big other news lately: UC4 trailer & mp-demo, Xbox-platform changing, Windows UWA, HTC Vive per-orders, Nintendo direct and No Man's Sky release details. This was a huge news week.I'm surprised this event isn't getting much hype.

Maybe it's better now, but I'm pretty sure BOM analysis put the Vita at well over $300 and it ended up coming out at $250.The leaked Goldman Sachs VR equity research estimated the BOM of PSVR to be at $350. I'm not sure if that includes the camera BOM but I expect a minimum price of $399.

While the marketing decision is clear, on a purely technical level I might prefer a 2560 RGB stripe display over a 4k pentile one.
Vive and Oculus are both using 2160(/2)x1200 pentile oled. PSVR has 1920x1080 RGB oled (it has a higher sub-pixel level as each pixel-stripe is a RGB-RGB.. pattern, a pentile is RG-BR-GB-RG..). PSVR kicking above its weight.
Sounds good to me, only I would think the base unit would not go over $349 because thats he price of the PS4. If Sony is selling this as an upgrade to PS4, it shouldnt cost more than the base console. This will be more expensive than most hope, but less expensive than some fear. I'll go with 379 for a no-move set, 499 for PSVR, cam and move, 699 for a set including PS4.

The middle one would be a really bad deal, you could buy a camera and 2 moves from Amazon for less right now.

The next upcoming version of PS4 firmware contains VR advice - not suitable for children under 12. https://t.co/SpBE8vxUVC
I think Sony will play this like they do with all their PS hardware. Units sell at a loss while making dollar on the attach rate. Vive and Oculus it seems are simply trying to make money from the hardware and because there's no license costs on PC going back to those guys the initial costs are quite high.
If the PSVR headset itself is anymore than £250 or $300 I'd be surprised as it would indicate a huge shift in their strategy.
£349 is my guess. Surprised no insider hints yet
Anyone seen this? Sorry if posted elsewhere...
PS4 firmware beta includes health and safety advice for VR..! Could PSVR be getting that "first half of 2016" release after all?! REALLY hyped for this 15th March event.
I'm absolutely desperate for a VR No Mans Sky announcement. Unless the price is daylight robbery I'll be on it day 1 like crazy if NMS can get support.
It's the perfect fit and Sony would be mad not to throw resources like crazy at it to help the small studio out.
I can't believe the PS4 has the power to transport a standard, great looking PS4 game to VR. All Demos so far have been more than noticably inferior to regular games in terms of graphics and/or extent of environment.
And by "regular games" in this case of course I mean generally good looking/AAA ones, not the occasional pixel indie title. Only exception so far on first glance would be that Driveclub title, but so far we have no idea how big, extensive etc it is.
That said, I'd be immensely happy to be wrong![]()
I'd happily take a knock in graphics fidelity. I'm sure NMS will introduce a lot of great masking techniques for hiding/introducing draw distance, so I have to believe it's possible to do a VR version. It's the perfect match.
IMO it's more the colour palette that makes the game look great, than any insane texture work.
