PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

Star Trek Bridge Crew can be played alone, AFAIK from start to finish. You can even use natural voice commands to control the AI stations. There was an article recently boasting some new IBM tech empowering this. It is cloud based like other similar solutions so every platform should be supported.

Of course the true magic of the game will only unfold in a group. I will be available sometimes, but I need to prepare to move soon so not often.

Reviving the PSVR Discord may be harder than just asking the SonyGAF Discord admins for a PSVR text (and maybe voice) channel...? That one is pretty active and should be the right spot.

Good call.

On the japanese store there's a free "Resident Evil Experience" app to promote the new CG movie. It's only a few minutes long but it's kind of neat because it's from a zombie's perspective.

Kartong - Death By Cardboard! is coming to PlayStation VR.

This "cute" FPS stealth game puts you up against evil experiments inside a miniature cardboard city. The maze of traps changes with every game, paper cuts are deadly and Mr Chuckles is very ANGRY. But hey, who doesn’t love the smell of cardboard in the morning?

Announce trailer: https://youtu.be/5xXRNBHk3E8
http://www.svrvive.com/games/kartong/

"Coming soon" in 2017 and from the dev on YouTube "It is coming for PSVR :D :D, and Vive, and Oculus :D <3"

Recent joiner to the PSVR club...

man, this is pretty dang slick. REZ Infinite delights my senses so much it ought to be illegal.

Welcome aboard, you're in for quite a ride. Some recommendations, grab Farpoint, RE:7, and Rush Of Blood. These are my favourite experiences and boast some of the best immersion. There are plenty of other great VR games worth getting, its just the above three stand out for me. Rush Of Blood is brilliant with the move controllers and Farpoint is best with the aim controller (available in a bundle).

Probably already posted but Futurlab (Velocity devs) are revealing their PSVR game on 30th May at 3pm GMT/7am PST.

There're a couple of teasers in their FB & Twitter feeds.

Welp guys, power went out today and killed the PU for the PSVR. Anybody got a link/number where I can contact support (NA) specifically for this issue?

This sucks, should've left it unplugged.

Every time I look at this thread & the way it's almost always on the front page, growing a bit more every day not in a big splash, but steady growth I like to see it as a (hopeful) analogy of PSVR sales, growing a bit more day by day.

It makes me smile inside.

Conversely every time I see 'It's not selling, PSVR is dead, no games, no Sony support.' Type posts I get annoyed more than I should.

Haven't got mine yet but found this on Sony's site PS VR Help 1-800-345-7669 hope it points you in the right direction.

Tried the PSVR for the first time today.
Played Rigs, Driveclub, Thumper, Until Dawn and Batman.
Holy shit am I a believer! The moment I started up Rigs and was in that garage it hit me, it totally felt like I was there. I really wish VR succeeds and keeps on improving, as right now I think the graphics might be the biggest challenge, give me better graphics and a slightly better way to control games and it'll be fucking nuts! Batman was incredible! I actually felt like someone was standing right there when I brought up the model viewer, in fact I kind of jumped when I selected Nightwing's attack pose and his electric poles made a noise. I want more.

Edit: Oh and best thing: I never felt any motion sickness! Yay!

Not really sure how they should approach graphics in VR yet. Farpoint had moments (in my 5 minute demo) that were absolutely stunning, but in general I feel like textures are the weakest link.

Perhaps detailed polygon work would pay off the most?

Brings all kinds of personal space issues into play. The graphics don't have to be photorealistic or incredibly high resolution for presence to work.

Rigs and driveclub under your belt and no issues, you're good to go! Now you just need to go experience Farpoint for a hint at where things are heading.

I've been playing the thumper demo for weeks, finally made the jump and purchased the full game and good lord the clarity improvements for the pro is astounding.

I always assume the demos are patched lol.

Tried the PSVR for the first time today.

Welcome to the cool kids club.

Man, is it just me or is Farpoint fucking hard? Got the the first proper boss thingy
giant spider
and died 7 times, luckily I completed it on the 8th as I don't think I would have tried again to be honest, open areas can be quite frustrating/flustering when they throw too much at you due to the slow controls.

Hyped about bridge crew and got my PSN pre-order in, kind of assumed it would have the NCC1701C (Enterprise) but that doesn't seem to be the case. Think they might have made a bad decision including the original ship, when most folk of the current VR folk are kids who grew up with the Enterprise and wanting a holodeck.

Hopefully they can patch it in or add it as DLC without segregating the audience.

For example, 10.36% of all players in RE7 are using PSVR.

It was 9.31% or less and it's growing slowly day by day.

Is anyone going to do an OT for Star Trek this Tuesday?

Star Trek: Bridge Crew comes out next week. Anyone want to make a team with me in advance?

Captain
Helm
Tactical
Engineer

I don't really care which role I play.

I plan to start with Engineer. Seems simplest.

That's awesome that you never got motion sickness as well playing all that for your first time. Glad you had a great experience cause first time in decent VR is fucking magical!

Haha awesome dancers. Bring on more rhythm games in VR.

Picked up Starblood a whilst back but only got around to playing it today, was really slick - liked the presentation, designs and tutorial.

But the quick match never finds a game.. is it, dead already? Can they just add it to PS Plus, i won't even be pissed that I paid for it if it means I can actually find a game.

Adding it to PS+ with a non-VR update would do wonders, it's an amazing game post patches.....

Probably higher as i completed Resi 7 in VR, But never signed up to resi.net at the beggining. Neither did my brother.

Is star trek still releasing next week? Need another fix as i just completed Farpoint, And that along with Resi 7 is the reason why VR gaming is the ultimate gaming experience, Nothing is as immersive as VR.

Yes, out Tues 30 May.

Its crazy how much better RE7 looks on the Pro, I am kind of mad I didn't play it this way originally. I didn't realize that better graphics make it more immersive and easier to judge size relative to myself. Why couldn't Driveclub have a pro patch? Hopefully GT Sport looks amazing.

Had my first taste of Farpoint last night. Very cool, but have a question about camera positioning ...

Basically it felt like the gun was a bit jittery and inaccurate. Is there an ideal setup? My camera is at hip height, about 5 feet away. I was thinking maybe elevating it a bit further would help it to stay tracked ...

I would try to place the camera at or above head height, if the gun tracking seems off, shake it around a little.

Usually camera related, I place mine under the TV, But i didnt play the game standing as i was sitting and it was fine.

On a side note, I didnt use the gun,I used the controller as the game was a gift, When i first set it up and played, The gun in-game was jittering all over the shop, I reset settings and all that but to no avail. Then i realised i had a customised sticker replacing the light on the back of the pad, Removed that and boom, Was resolved instantly and the gun in-game was steady.

Well I'll give it a go and report back. I think I was just too excited to see the new hotness, I didn't take much care over setting it up properly :)

From my experience, this game really wants the camera at around head height and angled down quite a bit. When you boot it up and do that calibration where you move your gun around the ring, your gun should never lose tracking while hitting all those blocks. It seems like the camera needs to be pointed quite a bit downward to achieve that.

I play 5 feet away when standing with the camera above the tv, (about 6 when sitting playing other games) and I find it a bit close for the tracking in farpoint. The closer you are to the camera, the more narrow part of the frustum you end up in.

6-6.5 feet in my opinion would be the best when considering that and the distance limitation you have when it comes to tracking.

That being said the gun isn't 100% rock solid all the time but it's pretty darn close

Good luck.

I played Star Trek, i just did the tutorials, and the best compliment i can give it? iit plays exactly how in your mind manning those consoles would be on a star ship, i bet with friends it could be immense fun/chaos.

Thanks for input. Will try tomorrow morning if I have time.

Makes me suddenly realise, the TV doesn't have to be involved in this setup in the slightest. Don't know why this is coming as such a revelation ... But it could really change things. The shape of my room is slightly narrow - I could put the camera at one 'end', even though the TV sits along one of the 'sides' ...

I got Dick Wilde and Polybius yesterday.

For Dick Wilde a big reason was support for the aim controller. I played with 2 moves and the aim controller, and while one would think that 2 guns are better than one, I was doing much better with the aim controller. It is hard though, and you really have to dodge a lot.

Polybius is sensory overload. If there is ever a game that triggers epileptic seizures, this one is definitely it. It seem like I'm good though. Haven't played it too much yet, but it's definitely a one of a kind experience. I was expecting the music to be a bit more trippy, but that might still change in later levels.

Those are of course optional, you can control the AI buddies via traditional selections as well. And / or hop to their stations for a while.

Polybius is a complete mind fuck. (Just played my first game)

When they use the combination of VR and 3D to have objects fly through your eyeballs @120fps things get fucking serious.

Incredible.

Since Dirt is on sale "VR" , it's a really good game if you understand the lingo and the graphics. Here's a shortcut for those interested.

Route Notes are your eyes it is an intense excersize.

the gameplay is sublime, you have to really learn the track as well as the car.

Bought Farpoint and Aim Controller over the weekend and played up to the first Boss and beat it. This is awesome!

The gameplay is decent, just your average FPS from years ago, it's still fun. But the experience is top notch. The aim controller I didn't expect to be better than the move controllers, but it feels like it tracks better. I didn't have a single issue and the tracking was pretty damn accurate, I was really surprised.

This gets me super excited for the future of VR FPS games. But then I start to think that Sony and other devs aren't going to take advantage of this, which just seems like a huge waste of potential. I'm hoping E3 can ease my concerns.

A reasonably easy way to get some content out that wouldn't cost a lot for them (compared to developing a new game) would be to get a team to convert FPS games from last gen to use the Aim Controller and PSVR. They'd use the extra grunt of the PS4 to up the framerate for games like Killzone 2/3 and Resistance 3. I would love that. The don't even need to improve the visuals, just clean up the IQ and I'd be happy.

E3 is 2 weeks away and I hope Sony will give me what I need. The tech is good enough I just need a game to scratch an itch. I think Elite would satisfy that that itch for me. Not sure if they could bring that to PSVR but I really hope they can , especially since I just got a Pro. Hopefully Megaton Rainfall can get a release date as well, I've been feinding for that game ever since I saw this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVwoQ-l7OY4

What are the chances Sony announces a PSVR 2.0 or an upgraded box with HDR at E3?

No idea but I will say the thought has crossed my mind. I was ready to pull the trigger at launch but decided to wait a while for various reasons. Eventually as E3 loomed closer I figured I might as well wait and see.

Guaranteed, hundred percent on the No.
Come on, what is up with all of these PSVR 2.0 thing recently? Even if there's a revision, PSVR slim or whatever, it will be at least 2 to 3 years until we see one. Devices don't just magically shit out from R&D and manufacturing departments.
